Yes, because it's not a falling in love song. It's matured and has stood the test of time. It's an expression of love that comes from a deep appreciation of the partner for who they are and all that they have given, the loyalty, perseverance, devotion. It sort of makes me sit up and take stock.

A beautiful love song from a husband to his wife. Rafferty's life was one of the most tragic in rock music. The extensive Wikipedia article is almost unbearably sad to read. A generally depressed person who hated celebrity, he turned to drink for solace and eventually died of it (2011). And yet, he gave the world this beautiful thing.

This song fit neatly into the elevator music genre when it was current. For me, those were songs I heard on the am soft rock that our school bus driver listened to. I never appreciated because of that association. Now in middle age, and knowing the struggles Rafferty went through, I totally appreciate the song and the composition. He was a great songwriter and maker of melodies.

What a perfect heartfelt reaction to this beautiful song. I hadn't listened to this in Forever and I'm sitting there loving the chord changes especially in that bridge. And his vocal delivery is not dramatic but he does a lot of things that are fairly difficult but he just kind of compacts them into these easy looking things and it sounds great. Man your reaction was just absolutely precious you guys.
