I remember being in Jersey on holiday God knows how many years ago and everyday I would put on the juke box. I like it. Many years later I was a bingo caller at a club in Aylesbury Bucks and had the pleasure of looking after Gerry while he was making an appearance. Such a lovely man, although I was rather surprised a Liverpudlian drank Cinzano and lemonade

On this day in 1965 {January 12th} Gerry and the Pacemakers performed "I'll Be There" on the NBC-TV program 'Hullabaloo'... One month earlier on December 12th, 1964 it entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart; eventually it peaked at #14 and spent 10 weeks on the Top 100... It reached #15 on the United Kingdom's Singles chart... The song was written and originally recorded by Bobby Darin in 1960; his version peaked at #79... R.I.P. Mr. Darin {1936 - 1973}...

Agree...60's were the pinnacle of American Pop ! 50's burst through but the 60's had the prosperity and the TALENTED song writers and MUSICIANS who could sing these songs acapella ! Yes, synthesizers are nice, but they mask meaning and soul and talent or lack thereof.

Gerry played his Gibson's and Gretsch's in the same position. So did Lennon with his Gibson J160E. If you were sitting the instrument would be at that height and it would allow the player to strum near to the bridge so achieving the sound desired.

Gerard Marsden, leader of Gerry and The Pacemakers, passed away on January 3rd, 2021 in Arrowe Park, Merseyside, England from a blood infection. He was 78 years old... Between 1963 to 1965 the Liverpool group had nine records on the United Kingdom's Singles chart, six made the Top 10 with three reaching #1; "How Do You Do It?" for three weeks in April of 1963, "I Like It" for four weeks in June of 1963, and "You'll Never Walk Alone" for four weeks in November of 1963... They just missed having a fourth #1 record when their "I'm The One" peaked at #2 {for 2 weeks} in February of 1964... May Mr. Marsden R.I.P. Note: "I'll Be There" peaked at #15 {for 1 week} on the U.K. Singles chart in April of 1965...
