I heard this answer from years ago. Writer Tony Barwick scripted many episodes. His birthday, 10th July 1934 (as per Wikipedia, died 18/08/1993). When he wrote any episodes, he usually tried to include his birthday in them.

I guess it's best to ignore the reference to July 10th in "Winged Assassin". "Operation Time" appears to take place on March 14th, as that date can be seen on the release General Tiempo signs, and that episode is clearly meant to take place after "Winged Assassin". As for "Treble Cross" & "Flight for Atlantica", it's possible that the party at the end of FTA took place immediately after the end of "Treble Cross".

I've always felt that this series had an almost ethereal quality to it, very spiritual with tons of skewed references to heaven and religion as a whole: The Angels, Cloudbase, Captain Black becoming the antithesis of all Spectrum stands for (Lucifer's fall from heaven...) Etc. And Spectrum itself made up of individual colours which make up the purest of hues: White...As a lifelong fan of sci fi, fantasy etc (I'm now 58...) i suppose another explanation -which I've unashamedly nicked from the BBC's "Life On Mars / "Ashes To Ashes series - springs to mind: That the Captain Scarlet world is a sort of ethereal "halfway house" created specifically for the restless dead. In Life On Mars those were police officers. What type of restless dead souls could they have been in 2068 I wonder...S.I.G...

fyi, @ 3:07 , the oncoming truck puts out false lights to make the other driver crash , yeah?. Well I recall seeing a sci fi film in the 70's (it may have been made in the 60's) in which the same thing happens.. ok.. what is amazing to me is that the main cars from UFO were actualy used in the sci fi movie BEFORE UFO came out.. Great video buddy, the fact the Tuesday 10 july 2068 was accurate is soooo cool..

The online Radio Times archive states that on the Monday following September 11, 2001, the Captain Scarlet episode 'Winged Assassin' (where a Mysteronised plane flew into a skyscraper) was scheduled to be shown. I have two conflicting memories: that they didn't show it, and that it was shown, but on 9/11 itself. ‘The Mysterons’ was shown on the 10th September (my birthday). 11th was the next day. ‘Winged Assassin’ was scheduled for the 17th but due to the storyline, was not broadcast. ‘Big Ben Strikes Again’ had a similar story line to 9/11 as well (exploding a bomb in a major world city) so not broadcast either. For the 17th September, ‘Manhunt’ was broadcast because the story had no real similarity to 9/11. WA and BBSTA were shown a few months later respectively in the episode run.

@@jameslong3509 - Thanks for that. Good to know someone else noticed this. So 'Winged Assassin' was bumped for 9/11 (I can delete my false memory of it being on TV the same day). Although I saw Captain Scarlet the first time around I didn't recall the storyline of 'Winged Assassin', but I did see it around that time (now I wonder did the BBC show it, or was it when I got the DVD collection a couple of years later?).

FiveLiver- I was sure it was shown. Just cheated (wikipedia) and found ‘Winged Assassin’ was shown on Monday 10th December 2001. Was wise to let things calm down for a while before broadcasting it.
