I've something else to add to your wonderful lesson of gerund and infinitive. Gerund can be used in a lot of situations: 1) After prepositions and conjunctions like : of, about, with, before, off, up, out, after, into, in, down, on, between, and, while, when, upon, for, to, etc... Example: I saw my former teacher when driving home. 2) after Some expressions: spend time, have trouble, have difficulty, it is no use, it is no worth, it is no good, it is out of question, feel like, etc .. Example: I spend most of my time reading books. 3) After possessive adjectives: my, your, our, their, his, her. Example: My wife dislikes my smoking inside the house. 4) Gerund can be used enumerating different things and can be at the beginning of a sentence to play the role of subject. Examples: 1- The new programs of the committee are : -Creating job opportunities for everyone, -putting in place a team which can control trashes, - helping needy people out with bags of rice. 2) living in an English speaking country can be helpful for any non-native speaker of English. Bunch of thanks!

Hi! How's it going? I had never seen someone explaining about the 'like to' and 'hate to' when it refers to a specific situations. It's interesting. Is it really a general rule that is followed by most people?
@EnglishwithLinguivers3 жыл бұрын
In fact, it's not a general rule that makes one option correct & the other one incorrect. Both options can be used (I like getting up early, I like to get up early). It is true however, that this pattern appears quite often.

Hi Laura. Thank you for your lessons, its make my English learning so enjoyable! Can I ask some question... Is there any difference in nuance between these sentences below? "I like to dance." and "I like dancing." Does the former (TO infinitive) one imply any particular preference about the action? Also, "It started to rain." and "It started raining." Please, thank you.
@EnglishwithLinguivers3 жыл бұрын
Hi Tom! 🙋🏻♀️ Thanks for your interest in our lessons 🤗 Regarding your questions, when using verbs like LOVE, LIKE, DISLIKE & HATE both options (to & - ing) can be used with the verb that follows. I would say that the "- ing" option sounds a bit more natural to me when talking about an idea in general. Nevertheless, both possibilities are correct. The verb START can take both too 😉 I hope this answer helps 👍🏻
