Must Faith in Christ Include That He is the Only Way?
Please visit: faithalone.org...
Welcome to the Grace in Focus radio / podcast. Bob Wilkin and Ken Yates are answering a question about the content of saving faith. Does having faith in Christ for eternal salvation include that He is the only (exclusive) way to eternal salvation? Is it possible to believe things that are inconsistent? Is it possible that there exists more than one saving message?
Bob and Ken will offer clarity on this topic - Please listen!
Faith, Christ, Exclusive, Life, Believe, John 3:16, John 5:24, Ephesians 2:8-9, John 14:6, Acts 4:12, Acts 16:14

Jesus you are the only way-- no one comes to the Father any orther way. Thank you for this gift.

Well, another way to explain it to people is: It says "I am THE way, THE truth, and THE life. No one comes to the Father but by Me." The emphasis on the singular THE and the statement about NO ONE comes to the Father but by Jesus. That excludes ALL other ways they could believe they might have. This one verse says it all.

Believing in Jesus alone would imply we must believe he is the only way.

The life is in His name, and John says that’s how you’re born again. Whoever believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God. There is NO OTHER WAY. And it comes by a divine revelation Matt 16; John 6:44-45,65; 5:24-25; 10:16; Luke 10:20-22.

Purpose of the Book of John John 20:30-31 The disciples saw Jesus do many other miraculous signs in addition to the ones recorded in this book. 31But these are written SO THAT YOU MAY CONTINUE TO BELIEVE that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing in him you will have life by the power of his name.

@@2Chronicles714_ Doesn't say "continues to believe" in any English text whatsoever . You added that . That's lying . It's a Gnomic timeless sense . Ho Pisteuōn exactly refutes a continuous sense . Furthermore , your Object of "faith " overtly Disbelieves in Him for His doubtless Guarantee of endless Everlasting Life apart from all behavioral performance (works) . Your Object of "faith " is instead your 5 PART PERFORMANCE CONTRACT TILL DEATH that stones for your sins instead of His Substitutionary Sacrifice that fully Propitiated for all sins . So , your doctrine posits NEVER HAVING HIS FREE AND NEVER DESERVING GIFT OF ENDLESS EVERLASTING LIFE WITHOUT FIRST DESERVING IT BY A LIFETIME OF WORKING FOR IT: infinitely less likely than winning the Olympic Marathon immediately after having your legs amputated ! When you sin , are you "Continuously believing" Him ? When you sin , do you Lose/Forfeit Temporary Conditional Probationary life , or Everlasting Life ?

This was an interesting question that had never even occurred to me as even a possibility; nevertheless, it was something that I found worthwhile for examination and clarification. I believe you handled this question very well, something which appeared like a slam dunk, nevertheless looked at thoughtfully and with a fine tooth comb. Good job.

Another question is is one required to believe that Jesus is God and/or believe in the holy trinity to have everlasting life. I remember this being handled before and I would like to find it again. I myself totally believe John chapter one which if I could have a favorite, this would be it.

We are convicted by the Holy Spirit……we believe in the name in Jesus Christ, the Son of God, and what he did…..death, burial, and resurrection! The resurrection is the power of God! Believe the Gospel of grace….1 Corinthians 15:1-4 Romans 1:16 Ephesians 1:12-14 & 2:8-9…….all the promises like John 3:16 and many others of believing support the gospel! We Believe the death, burial, and resurrection…..and then are Sealed by the Holy Spirit. Ephesians 1:13 ✝❤

Disciples were born again well before (John 1&2) understanding His attributes/DBR : John 20 . Only simple childlike faith in the Christ (Jesus) for His doubtless Guarantee of endless Everlasting Life , apart from all working for it - forever regenerates : John 3:16 & Ephesians 2:8-9 .

Does 1 Corinthians 15:1-11 Contradict John 3:16? July 13, 2021 by Bob Wilkin in Blog - 1 Corinthians 15:1-11, The Cross And The Promise Of Life A reader expresses his agreement with our understanding of what it means to believe in Christ, and then he asks how we explain 1 Cor 15:1-11: So, I was reading a few blog posts from the GES about what it means to believe in Christ. However, I actually had already known (more or less) of what your stance about this question is (being that I like your ministry, listen to your podcast, read your blogs and whatnot, etc.). And, as it is, through reading John, I too agree that “belief in Christ” (the belief necessary for eternal life) is the belief that He guarantees everlasting life, not the belief in Christ’s works. Anyway, the actual reason I was reading the blogs in the first place is because I was wondering how our position on salvific belief would be defended in the reading of 1 Corinthians 15-vv. 1-4 specifically. One would imagine that whatever was “of first importance” (v.2) to Paul would be whatever can trigger everlasting life in a person; nevertheless, Paul makes no mention of believing that Jesus guarantees eternal life. His emphasis is explicitly on believing the death, burial, and resurrection. So, how would you reconcile this passage with the belief that Jesus grants eternal life to those who belief just that? I have written on 1 Cor 15:1-11 on several occasions. See a 2019 blog on believing in vain here, a 2008 Grace in Focus Magazine article dealing with things that people add and take away from 1 Cor 15:1-11 to try to make it evangelistic, here, and a 2020 blog on the need to hold fast, here. I will summarize what I say in those articles. First, the Gospel of John was written long after the birth of the Church to tell people in the church age what they must do be saved (John 20:31). Nicodemus (John 3) and the woman at the well (John 4) both came to faith, yet there is no indication that the Lord preached the cross and resurrection to either. (He did allude to the cross in John 3:14-15, but even the disciples did not understand this as a reference to Jesus’ dying. Compare Matt 16:21-23. The eleven disciples were born again years before they believed in Jesus’ death and resurrection.) Second, 1 Corinthians 15 is the great resurrection chapter. Paul is not evangelizing in this chapter. On this side of the birth of the Church, people come to faith in Christ for everlasting life by learning of His death and resurrection for us. Yet that is not the point of 1 Cor 15:1-11. Paul is calling the Corinthians to ongoing sanctification. He is writing to believers in Corinth on the importance of Jesus’ resurrection in their daily walks. Third, vv 1-11 serve to introduce the chapter. Paul’s point in these verses is that the believers in Corinth can be spiritually healthy by holding fast to the good news that Paul preached to them concerning Jesus’ death, burial, and resurrection. The salvation mentioned in 1 Cor 15:2 is not a past completed event as in Eph 2:8-9. Instead, it is a present tense ongoing salvation that is contingent on holding fast to the gospel Paul preached. That salvation is being spiritually healthy. Compare 1 Cor 3:15; 5:5. Fourth, the point of 1 Cor 15:1-11 is clearly found in Paul’s call to the believers in Corinth to hold fast to the truth of the gospel (1 Cor 15:2). It is possible that a believer will stop living at the foot of the cross and the entrance to the empty tomb. We must hold fast if we are to remain spiritually healthy. Fifth, those who seek to make 1 Cor 15:1-11 into an evangelistic text have to do a lot of adding and taking away. They have to add the promise of everlasting life, which is not mentioned in this passage, as the reader points out in his question. They have to add that the moment one believes in Jesus he receives that life. The passage says nothing about what we receive at the moment we first believe. They have to take away the requirement that one hold fast to the gospel in order to stay saved. This passage does not contain what we find when Paul discusses the message of life. Compare Acts 16:31; Eph 2:8-9; 1 Tim 1:16.

Father Abraham was a Gentile, his Origins were from Ur of the Chaldees. Genesis 15:6-8 King James Version 6 And he believed in the Lord; and he counted it to him for righteousness. 7 And he said unto him, I am the Lord that brought thee out of Ur of the Chaldees, to give thee this land to inherit it. 8 And he said, Lord God, whereby shall I know that I shall inherit it?

God always keeps His promises. Romans 11:25-26 25 For I do not desire, brethren, that you should be ignorant of this mystery, lest you should be wise in your own opinion, that blindness in part has happened to Israel until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in. 26 And so all Israel will be saved, as it is written: “The Deliverer will come out of Zion,
And He will turn away ungodliness from Jacob; John 4:22 22 You worship what you do not know; we know what we worship, for salvation is of the Jews.

@AlvinFen The Bible says the Promises were made to the Single person Abraham, and Abraham's Seed which was Jesus Christ. There's no plurality in the Sentence in Galatians 3 except in verse 29 And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise. Galatians 3:16 King James Version 16 Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He saith not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Christ.

@@CarnivoreMeatEater Dr. Bob Wilkin The Grace New Testament Commentary Galatians 6:16 What Paul means by THE ISRAEL OF GOD is disputed. There are two major views. First, the Reformed view is that it refers to the church. Second, the dispensational view is that it refers to Jewish believers in the current Church Age. The latter view is correct for two reasons. First, Paul has made clear elsewhere that the true Israel today are those who are both the physical AND SPIRITUAL seed of Abraham (cf. Rom 9:6-8). Second, both the OT and NT make it clear that there is a future for the nation Israel, God’s chosen people. Jesus will forever rule and reign from Jerusalem over the nation of Israel and the world.

GES believes that you can have an "EVIL UNBELIEVING HEART FALLING AWAY FROM THE LIVING GOD", Heb 3:12 and you will still be saved. GES also believes that you can " Depart from the faith and give heed to doctrine of demons ", 1 Tim 4:1 and you will still be saved.........so is he the ONLY WAY....walking in darkness? walking after the flesh? GES says after you are saved, you can live however you want.....and you will still be saved.

You don’t understand the Gospel. You’ll never make it to heaven based on what YOU do. You’ve GOT to let that go. That’s repentance; change your mind: realize that you are a sinner, helpless to save yourself, and believe that Jesus paid the price for your sins. That is salvation and again, it’s not what you do, but what Christ did. Repent and believe today!
