Thank you so much for the video! Now I finally have the confidence that I can go from 5dan to 1dan.

Finally, someone has the guts to say that I suck. I know it very well myself, but it's great to hear it. And yes, my opponents suck too, so if I can suck a little less, I will make progress! I had quite a quick leap up to 6kyu, but I have been stuck here for over a year. Sadly I don't get to play as much as I want, but I WILL eventually make it to 1dan. Next year, with the help of Back to Basics. On another note, I really should support you on patreon. Your videos are amazing. Back to Basics and pro game reviews are the BEST! Keep em coming.

It's almost the end of the year, and I'm almost 1d. That's the good news. The bad news is I started the year at 3d.

@@dwyrin Just a joke. I'm 5d foxy, 2-3d KGS. My game has suffered lately because I haven't been playing all that much, but it's more a source of frustration than an actual rank affecting problem, at least so far. My game just FEELS off.

Ooh, exciting series! I already have 1d on Fox but am struggling to even hold 3k on OGS (which reflects my IRL rating much more so I'd like to bump it up haha)

At the beginning of the year I dropped all the way down to 18 kyu, barely comprehended the moves I made. Thanks to these vids I have reached slightly above 7 kyu levels by now.

I’ll be happy to get 2k for Xmas, but shodan is my go goal nonetheless. Your vids are the best. Even your goofs are instructive.

I’ve never really cared about promotion, the doing has been the thing I’ve enjoyed most. However, once upon a time, my kendo sensei and friends pushed me to go for shodan promotion at the annual Hokkaido Promotion Test. I was in my 40s up against kids half my age with three times the training, but my teacher had trained us well, so I used an upward blocking feign that segued into a slash across the chest to dispatch my opponents. Wait solidly, then pounce is a technique that also works in Go.

Great video :) Still does not prevent me from making stupid mistakes or losing because I get invaded all the time. You see things almost instantaneously, while I either don't see it, or takes time to read. Yeah, I know. I need to work on it.

Just FYI, you said he blocked the wrong way in the bottom left joseki, but Michael Redmond just released a video saying to block where the kakari stone is. Not sure if you can reconcile that?
@chritical_ep2 жыл бұрын
As Michael Redmond said in that video, if there is a supporting stone on the non-kakari side (as there was in this game), then the AI will probably treat both equally, so you can do either. But human teachings would usually say that they blocked on the wrong side . I think you'd have to put it in an AI to say for sure EDIT: I just put it through an AI on my phone and it thinks both are just as good, so yeah, while it seems like the wrong direction from a human perspective, dwyrin's opponent didn't make a flat-out mistake

Hey dwyrin, do you care about your rank in go?

I first care about enjoying the game. Beating more 9dans would be great, but not if it meant playing games i didn't enjoy.

Prevalence of E17 is one thing I will never understand. 10k should know better. Do they never get called on it? It's the kind of mistake you only make once. Technically it is ok if your intent is to play E16 afterwards but rarely do fox 1Ds mean it like that.

When you say that white blocked on the wrong side, doesn't that go against what Michael Redmond said the other day in his video "Cover on the side with a kakari"?: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fWWxdotvhryBbtk

nope because with k17 you can build a wall towards your stone. like i mentioned ideally it would be a high stone, but you use what you got
