I’m glad you are talking about the many causes of hair breakage. I recently did a big chop to cut out the color and go gray. One hair stylist on YT said if your hair is gray you don’t need a protein treatment. Well, that didn’t sit well with me hence me coming across your video. I live in an area that has hard water that I now understand is not good for my hair so I thank you educating us.

I suggest put on a plastic cap and wrap your hair with a hot dryer (wet towel and place in microwave for a few seconds) and leave for at least 30 mins; use your natural body heat

This is the video I was looking for..i.e.. recommendation for Protein Treatment. U mentioned u would list 'other' protein treatments in the description herein. None found. Anyway, I will check out Aphogee. Would like to know your take on DIY Protein Treatments (with eggs, mayonnaise, oil, etc..) and also your take on following up a protein treatment with a deep (moisturizing) conditioner afterwards. Thanks :)
@KarenofCurlHouse Жыл бұрын
Hi Theo! I thought I replied to this but apparently I have not. My apologies. Here are the other protein recommendations: PROTEIN TREATMENT RECOMMENDATIONS: ✅ Aphogee 2 Step Protein Treatment ✅ Curl Junkie Reconstructive Hair Treatment ✅. Hydrathermals Naturals Amino Plus Protein Conditioning Treatment Also, I am not a big fan of the egg, mayonnaise DIY treatment. In order for protein to strengthen the hair, it needs to be hydrolyzed (made smaller). The protein structure of eggs is too big to fit into the hair shaft. So although mayonnaise may soften the hair, the eggs don't provide the protein because their amino acids are simply too big. I think I may do video about this!

@@KarenofCurlHouse Hi Karen: Thanks for the response. Quick follow up. After Step 2, were u done or did u follow that up with a Deep Conditioner? Some folk recommend one should do that after the 2 Step Treatment since the instructions says to leave Step 2 in your hair for only 2 minutes, than rinse it out. Thanks.

@@TraderDT Hello there? Yes! There is the aphogee 2 step treatment which includes the concentrated protein and the moisturizing treatment used afterwards.

I just came across your video and I am learning a lot. My son ha been growing out his hair and I want to be able to teach him how to take care of his hair. So does this apply for men as well?

Hey thank you so much. Using a protein treatment is great to strenghten our hair when we have it pressed regularly. Is there a way a person can tell if we have a madula? Thank you again.

Hey there! Now that is a very good question 🤔 for one I don't know the answer! LOL! I know typically coarser textured hair has a medulla but not sure how you can tell. Let me check with a colleague and will follow up

Great video as always. I have hard water problems. Since my hair is dry will the apogee make my hair harder. After completed the two steps what type of shampoo and conditioner. You recommended. You stated do the two step apogee every month. When should you stop? Thanks. ps Did you purchased something for your shower head for hard water.
@KarenofCurlHouse Жыл бұрын
HI Wannella! Thank you so much! So you want to shampoo your hair first with whatever shampoo you currently use, then do the 2 step protein treatment. The second step of the protein treatment is a moisturizing conditioner, so you don't necessarily have to add another conditioner. This conditioner is going to soften your hair again. If you are combating hard water issues, then I would recommend a protein treatment about once per month. I am still doing extensive research on a water filter for shower. I think I have identified one so will make a video on that in about a week. I want to be very certain that I recommend the best one. I've been going to the salon to wash my hair until then. Hope this helps!

What do you think about a Malibu protein treatment? The lady at Walmart used it on my hair.
@KarenofCurlHouse Жыл бұрын
Hello Chocolate Butterfly! I looked at this treatment and its seems to be a good treatment, now my other concern its the application of it. Was your hair flat ironed afterwards or during the process? If it is a smoothing protein treatment, then I get concerned about the amount of heat applied, and if this will lead to heat damage (AKA -- the curls won't return the same). By no means am I saying this, but let me know the process so I can provide a more professional response. Talk with you soon.

I have the Aphogee proteins system, What if you don’t have a hair dryer or a hooded dryer? Could i Just let the product sit on my hair for the amount minutes requested?
@KarenofCurlHouse Жыл бұрын
Hello there! It’s not going to have to same effect without heat… particularly for step one the liquid. The protein activates with heat - you can try in the hot shower or heat up a towel and wrap in around your hair for a few minutes to give it some heat. Sone direct heat is better than none.

If you are using concentrated protein like Aphogee then yes! Absolutely. Otherwise some protein treatments are not as strong and only requires that one step. I suggest you read the instructions on the bottle 🤗

Thank you, God bless
@KarenofCurlHouse Жыл бұрын
Hello there! Please try to increase your iron as it may affect hair growth and overall hair health. Not sure if you are taking supplements or eating iron rich food. Also, do you have a hand blow dryer? That will work as well. You can put a diffuser on the end of the hand dryer. If you don't have a diffuser, you can use the hand dryer as is and try to make sure the heat is distributed as evenly as possible throughout your entire hair shaft. After about 15 minutes or so, rinse out and apply the next conditioner. Put a plastic cap on (or a plastic bag) and let it sit for about 20 minutes covered. Even if you don't put the dryer to it it's fine.
