For those that can appreciate it: this was all shot in 4k! Fun Fact: 4k is only equivalent to 8mp pictures. The time lapses are shot with 24mp raw pictures, so I have a lot of room to zoom and pan before downresing to 4k. Also I shot 100gb of content..

This was actually a really good video. I loved the fog time lapses and the drone shots. I would love to see a transition from below the fog to above the fog in slow motion on the drone. Maybe throw a spin in there at the same time. Loved the video!

I remember, this summer of 2019 I was hiking in the alps. It was very foggy and on the top of the mountain I experienced something unforgettable: nearly absolute silence. The only thing you could hear were faint occasional cow bells in the distance. That to me is the beautiful side of fog. It didn’t just keep most hikers away but was very good at sound canceling, too!

I know It's been a while, however if you want that you could use a rocket. I have built a fully reusable rocket, with reusable rcandy motor, arduino/MPU6050 gyro stabilizer which controls the fins and a parachute. I still have to work out the kinks, like making it more stable, and I don't have a good small camera, however I still get some nice shots sometimes.

I'm digging your new vlog format. I was really hoping you were going to take the quad above the fog... you almost had the shot. Also what about flying through the ice fog with an artificial horizon OSD flight controller (think IFR). It would be interesting to see how much ice the quad or fixed wing could collect before crashing
@SammSheperd
@SammSheperd 7 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Yea I've always dreamed of flying an sUAS IFR, basically applying my IFR pilot skills to an autonomous vehicle or flying manually with reference to instrumentation via OSD. Excellent question on icing too. Small things tend to collect ice more, while slow things tend to collect ice less. But I'm sure that icing would be a real problem for sUAS just like it is for full scale.

Hi Samm, how HIGH can your simple drones (or RC plane) fly - what is the RANGE? Can you shoot them straight up so it disappears into the clouds and then wait until it falls back down?...I get that you need FPV, so not to lose it, but theoretically... The views of Walla Walla mountains are very exotic (I am on East coast)... I am also curious about how can you integrate today's GPS and autopilot to an RC plane. Is It possible to built at home a small light RC plane that flies above clouds, charges from solar cells, and can follow to a pre-programmed GPS location; land there (thousands of miles aways), on its own, or maybe gets picked up by another transmitter and thus land manually? ...For example i send my craft to your coordinates from East to West coast... Wouldn't be awesome???
@SammSheperd
@SammSheperd 7 жыл бұрын
I can easily make a vehicle fly via a GPS mission with no radio control link for as far as it can with fuel on board. I could also get about 50 miles range with a long range radio system. Radio repeaters are a known technology but I'm not sure of one for RC available now because we can already do way more than is legal.
@viewer7200
@viewer7200 7 жыл бұрын
***** Why do you need radio repeaters? if it has GPS mission, then all it needs is autopilot. Is there an AP for RC or one would need to program AP? ...and why is it more than legal?

I really liked the Video and I think you should keep doing what you feel like doing! Still I think that finding a way to look in the lensei (or make it look like you are doing) would improve the "talking" parts. Casey found with his sunglasses a smooth way of doing that and mayby you can find your own way of doing that. I think that that would improve thoses sequences with a more natural and personal touch. Still a great Video though :)

I put this 4K on my 4K 55" tv/monitor and that quad footage made me nauseous. whoeeee!! What an effect! (I suspect it will be better when I can control the movement myself...) Very cool video. What software do you use to compile the time lapses?
@SammSheperd
@SammSheperd 7 жыл бұрын
I used light room to apply the same color correction to all the frames while I can still pull the detail out of the RAW file. Then export all the frames to jpegs into a folder. Then I used After Effects to turn them into a 4k Apple Pro Res 422 (intermediate codec) file and at this point choose frame rate and zoom and pan etc while maintaining 4k resolution. Then put the rendered time lapsed into my Premiere project. However there are other programs which can take a sequence of photos and export .MP4

Very nice! Lightroom is definitely the way to go. Haven't tried After Effects in close to a decade, I'll have to check it out. As someone who has taken RAW time lapses before, I commend you for the sheer mass of data and time that went into this! Beautiful shots too.
