Kind of a strange video but the sentiment is correct. We are luckily in a great time where every camera system is offering stellar image quality and now it’s about preference measured in smaller details. As a dual c70 user the integrated form factor is huge for me. The c80 will be a big hit since it fixes the majority of the issues the c70 had. I wouldn’t be surprised if Sony has a similar body style in the works due to how popular the c70 ended up being for canon. As a canon user I’m glad of their return back to being competitive. This added with Nikon new offerings, we are going to have a great competitive landscape.

Unpopular opinion, The real determining factor is what results your achieving with your kit. So many people talk an incredible game but their portfolio is trash. I'm more than happy with my sony a7sIII, I just want sony to release an a7sIV so I can buy another a7sIII for cheap honestly! The lens opinions for FE mount are endless, and at this point I have 6 lenses that cover all my needs and more... You won’t see me going back to Canon, after being with them professionally since 1996. Two diff brand new R6 bodies that broke down at their first weddings of Error 70 was why I jumped to Sony and spent about £20,000 on all new gear. Sony quality, features, low light results, reliability all way better than Canon ever was.

Time to get over brands, even Full Frame and f0.95 and focus on getting the job done that needs doing for the way your content will be consumed. I've ditched my cinema camera and now use a ZVE1 with a 16mm and 24-70, and an iPhone (with or without gimbal) or GoPro for moving shots. Like it or not, Most of our content is being consumed on a cell phone, often by someone sitting on a toilet. Next most used is a tablet or laptop. Way down on the list is a TV screen. Very few of us are producing for the big screen!

@@nVuFilms BTW, I’ve purchased around 10 Canon cameras. For now Sony is slightly better for me, but I wouldn’t dare say it’s best for everyone. In most cases the difference in similar tier equipment may play less than 5-10% difference in quality difference of the product produced. The real issue is people can buy the gear. To be good, they have to learn and practice proficiency with the gear, which takes skill and discipline.

6K is getting silly. 4K is plenty. 1080 from 4K suits most clients. It’s too much data to store for busy wedding shooters. A properly shot 1080 is crisp and full of detail on big 4K screens. 4K is great when shooting 3200ISO or more in dark receptions. The A7IV produces fantastic 1080 from 4K and 4K from 7K downsampled. Pixel peeping got boring too. I don’t bother. I know the quality my cameras produce for weddings and that’s all I need. 2x A7IV and 3x A7Cmk1 for extra video angles.

its impossible for canon to "kill" sony now. canon had thier chance to crush the market with the release of the original R5. Overheating, crippling, antiquted specs, cropping - did I say overheating - had many canon loyalist, like myself, get tired of the fcukery and dip our toes in the Sony pool. I had my $6000 ready for R5 and a lens and took it all to sony for the A7S iii after the constant R5 overheating reports. After that the FX3 came out and canon was stuggling to pump out multiple firmware updates to combat the heat issue. By the time they got it finally fixed, 2024 arrived and so did the R5 mark II - 4 years later. Now they just announced a new camera and everyone is like - woah can you believe all they packed into that camera for under 6K. The question is why have there been so many iterations of trash or crippled products that now they get credit for actually doing something right?

The c80 definitely eats into the fx6s market imo but canon still doesn't have anything to keep up with the fx3 or fx30 directly in terms of price so Sony is still good there if they figure the damn firmware updates out. Speaking as a Sony user, who came from canon

I think the C80 just isn't meant for this demographic. Everything said about other smaller, cheaper cameras like the FX3 having all the features you'd need for content creation/videography is true, and in general for a lot of people the C80 won't be very useful as an upgrade. However, there's no denying that the C80 and other cameras like the C400 Canon has released recently have more features, capability, and are objectively better than Sony's current cinema lineup. That doesn't mean people are going to sell their Sony cameras and buy out Canon's stock, but it does mean Canon has more to offer for any higher-end filmmakers looking for a camera that can do as much as possible for a decent price. The C80 is meant to compete against cameras like the FX6; users of cameras like the FX3 or R5C would understandably have less interest in the C80. Maybe Canon will drop a new rendition of the R5C that pulls more content creators towards it, but in general it seems like Canon and Sony are just heading in different directions. Sony will need to release new products though if they want to stay on top in the higher end.

I prefer 4 yo FX6 over C80 any day. Cheaper glass (and 5x more glass choice). Really boxy camera. Electronic ND. CFE-A cards. And in my country actually FX6 is cheaper than C80 ... I really hope we will see FX6 mkII this year. And also the best camera with shitty lighting will give you shitty image ... I had S5IIX. Nice camera, but I sold it cause being in 2 different mounts is the most stupid idea ever. But it's good that Canon is showing new cameras. Competition is good. Let them pressure Sony to release FX3 II, FX6 II and FX9 II :D.

I own and use the Canon C200 x 2, C300 MKII x 1 and I bought an FX6 this year for a client who has existing Sonys and they wanted me to shoot for them so after trying to sell them on using my Canons, I just relented and bought an FX6 when they weren't feeling the Canon footage when cut with their Sonys. But I still use my Canons for some projects and the Sony for others. They each have positives and negatives but overall, they are both great. Not sure why people in our industry seem to have this Jihad mentality about camera models and brands. Cameras are just tools and the FX6, C80, C400 all are killer cameras. Just buy what you like, use it and put all of this brand fan bullshit in the trash where it belongs. I've never understood the weird mentality of people who seem to gain their personal identity from the camera they shoot, computer they use or car they drive, it's a seriously bizarre mental illness.

Well I’m sorry, I’m full Sony right now, but you can’t say better is not better because you persuade yourself you’re happy with what you have (which is not as good). i recenlty went on a trip and i used the canon c70 and the r5mkii for video, and a friend of mine used the fx3 that i´ve been using for the last two years. now i want to switch to canon, and i hated the fx3 footage, i don´t care too much for the detail, for me the current cameras have more than enough detail, but the image quality, the color, and the grading process was so good with the canon footage. it felt like i could do instantly what i was trying so hard with he sony footage, it´s hard to explain.

big deal...sure the C80 has some great specs...but comparing it to the FX6 which was released in Nov. 2020???...I am sure within 6-12 months Sony will release a new FX6.....I am a Sony shooter...I have a pair of FX30 units...I have spent about 150 hours filming a doc over the summer and I am very very happy with the results...only once did I wish I had the FX3 for one super lowlight night...I intend on perfecting my skills with the FX30...and will upgrade to the next APSC unit...I figure 2026....like anyone I have my hopes....maybe 16+stops of dynamic range, 4k good enough for me...something like the super 35 sensor on the old Canon C70 but in a FX30 body...

"Catching up", but Sony's still aren't shooting internal RAW & the dynamic range isn't amazing on BM. Even the Burano has huge problems, only 10.8 stops of DR when not cropped, huge rolling shutter and IR pollution. FX3 doesn't even have professional exposure tools (does FX6 have false color yet??). I had a C70, RED's and an FX3, I don't think ill pick up a C80. If it had DGO and a fast readout I would. Sony needs to have internal RAW, ND's and pro exposure tools built in before I will use one again.

But on a serious note. I am a big Fujifilm camera lover. From xt3 to xt4. But lately I am considering the Lumix brand but waiting for the S1H mark ii. Basically because of the Fullframe sensor & hopefully internal raw. Now I know alot of people talk alot about Fullframe being overrated or you can even use iPhones. Trust Me I have worked & graded some jobs shot with these tools. But you will truly see the need to strike a balance with functionality especially when you have budget for just a single camera body. U need something versatile, reliable, good codecs when you push & pull. Having a reasonable latitude to film outdoor in bright sunlight as well as in low light. That's why the Lumix seems like the best option

Lumix s5IIX: I can record to external SSD (without an external recorder/monitor) at 5.8K (open gate) 10bit ProRes HQ 422 which provides extra room for cropping (i.e., 4K, 2.39:1 or 16:9 aspect ratio) in post.

That's kinda funny... because Sony fx3 can shoot 12 bit raw... It's nothing new, granted externally to atomos Ninja, which I have... But I don't use. Because file sized and sheer volume of clients is not worth the storage for very minimal image quality improvements. Again, this was my perspective based on what I do.
