I have the desktop version. I9-9900k in my Alienware area 51m. It runs @5.1ghz 24/7 only using Alienware control center to overclock it. My temps idle are in the high 20’s ,low 30’s. Game play temps are in the 70’s-80’s. I’m able to benchmark it at that speed and don’t reach the thermal limit . I realize it’s the silicone lottery winner of the year but it’s true , this chip, with this cooling solution runs amazing . I am powering the laptop with two 300 watt power bricks instead of a 300 and a 120 . People don’t believe me say I’m doing some kind of trick and I’ve put up KZbin’s and ran the programs they ask me to run. Definitely the most amazing laptop I ever owned. Just a FYI my last Alienware laptop actually caught on fire , so I know they are heat boxes . I just got lucky this time

Noob Plays the rtx ti is the strongest card on the market as of now. Confirmed to perform even better than the rtx titan in some cases and its from nvidia which has always been too expensive tbh. So what do you expect from it, to be cheap ? And the 9900k aint that expensive compared to an noticably older 8700k which is still 350 bucks in most countries compared to 9900k which is at around 500 bucks. AND again the i9 9900k is the best gaming processor on the market to date. You named two top tier high end components from two rediculous pricing companies of course they are expensive. But seen from a wider perspective, the market is very cheap right now. Especially the amd market. Sure, The rx gpus are lacking but the ryzen 5 and the ryzen 7 are real respectable alternatives to the i5s and the i7s. There are really good (bad looking) gaming motherboards. Cheap liquid coolings, nice cheap power supplies from many companies (bequite!, corsair etc) and very good cheap rgb cases for nice looks. I have seen pc build videos this month alone of pcs that ran most new games in high quality 1080p built from around 800-1000 bucks. That’s really not too expensive imo. I built a high end pc myself and spend 2100. and i only did so cause it’s really cheap atm and i think it’s worth it.

Talking about cooling, if u want to overclock ur i9. The Noctua Towers are good too. You dont need a water cooler (for 5-5.1GhZ). Im running 5.0 GhZ at 1.310 Volts, which should get pretty warm already. A custom fan curve on the Noctua NHu12A and it hasnt seen temperatures over 77°C. Even after half an hour prime 95 on 5 GhZ it didnt exceed 77 degrees, and fans were not running at full speed. So if you ask yourself if you really need an AIO for this, no u dont, Noctua got you coveres with their U12A

Good Job. No doubt, there are many other factors & settings worthy of attention, but as you kindly explained in your opening comments, this is a good place to start, and focuses on a few OC basics. The content, was as stated, well organized, and professionally illustrated. Thank-you. On another topic... Now, If we can only get some of our DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) software programmers to write ‘optimized’ code to improve problematic ‘Real Time Performance’, during routine playback of complex multi-track recordings, each track, potentially containing, a variety of plug-ins, plus a mic'd or virtual instrument. This unique dataflow, unlike the majority of gaming applications utilized during standard CPU stress testing, often times stalls (even over clocked) CPUs, creating audible (clicks, pops, and annoying timing issues), reportedly due in part, to poor code, targeting or utilizing only a small fraction of Intel's i9-9900 or AMD's flagship processing power. This topic, may not be in your wheelhouse - but it would be great, if folks like yourself, included ‘DAW’ software load testing, such as (AVID’s Pro Tools Ultimate versus Steinberg’s CUBASE Ver.10 versus PRESONUS' Studio One 4 Pro) - against stock & overclocked CPU monster builds of the day, all other high end ram and fast, efficient hardware options being equal for testing purposes. Your 'unbiased' observations, regarding such test results, would be of interest to programmers and thousands of frustrated users, like myself. Perhaps ground breaking content of yet another informative post. Keep on Rock’n. Cheers :)

I wonder how much time an overclocked cpu will save you effectivly after having so many time-intensive benchmarktests which cost you many days of your life. I once pushed my overclocking on my old pc slightly forward and ended in unexplainable "software" problems although all the benchmarks i did were running perfectly fine. At the end i just pulled back my settings and all problems vanished, so i dont really believe that overclocking saves time because your computer runs faster. I am not advocating Prime95 as that is bogus, but an eight hour shift in RealBench, without WHEA errors is as stable as you will ever get. question is, is 5ghz at 1.248v at load after vdroop or 1.375v idle all the time with extra power and heat on cpu and mobo vrms, worth it over running 4.7ghz(stock) undervolted to 1.1v with drastically lower heat, temps and power

i have a z390 a prime, and a i9 9900k and followed multiple videos various times over and over and over again, trying to make sure i didnt miss something, i can't overclock, everytime i restart the computer with the settings set, it successfully boots into windows, and then i instantly check cpu-z to make sure its giving me the overclock, and it isn't, im not receiving 5ghz, im only getting the full 3.6 ghz. i have a noctua nh-d15, and literally any settings i set in the bios with xmp 1 or 2, doesn't absolutely nothing, so what the HECK is going on?? @Manakuski5 жыл бұрын
80-85 is not high at all for cinebench. It's normal. For games the temps are gonna be around 60-70 which is just fine aswell. The TJMAX afaik is 115 and the cpu starts throttling at 100 if i remember correct. Basically anything below 80 is fine for gaming imo.

I got mine set to 5,2gHz @ 1,375 volts. When I do stresstest with gpu-z and other programs, they pull up frequenzy to 5,2gHz. But with Aida64 system check that you used, it only tests at 4,7gHz. Why is that? Some setting within program? I have done some heaven and superposition benches and stress tests with different program, and my CPU always lay below 80 degrees. I got the corsair 115i platinum cooler. I got no throtteling at 4,7gHz under 12 minutes of aida test... But I want to see under 5,2 there aswell.

who cares. up to 1.45v is fine, if you can cool it. adjust llc to stop spikes over 1.5v. intel max voltage is 1.52v for the chip. i'm running my 9900k at 5.2 ghz with -2 avx offset at 1.425v i could not care less, the chip will easily last 10 years anyway. my old 3770k ran high voltage for 7 years at 5 ghz and still runs perfectly fine in a friends rig at that speed. same voltage, same speed and perfectly stable. stop worring so much haha..

due to intel's setting to the needed demand. Can change like wild in idle, no worries. But in a stress test it should stay normally on your max set clock or on your lower AVX setting (if not set to auto). I recommend to set AVX to 4600.

@@jeffreydesormeaux3539 Initially ASUS was advertising the Z390's as 8 Phase boards but they're not, and 10 phase on the Z390 Extreme and it's not. They're Fat 4 phase and fat 5 phase. The VRM's run hotter than their competitors, not critically bad but initially false advertisement, they've removed the wording at this point. So far it hasn't affected benchmarks or performance in any measurable way but I have ye to see anyone really do a full on in depth look at this to prove one way or another if ASUS has given us crap, out smarted the competition, or made their products better.

Difference between adaptive vcore and manual. Depending on your UEFI there should be 3-4 different settings for how vcore is set, but there tends to be at least an auto, a manual, and an adaptive setting at least. Adaptive will let you set a target and the VMM will adjust depending on load.

Nothing wrong with it...all cpu's work a tiny bit different from each other... mine just peaked 90c at 1.380 at 1.375 mine crashed... after running aida for 15 minutes just worked fine... then again you won't run your cpu at full load all the time so temp wise you should be fine.
