Thank you for pointing out the over volt problem! Some Z390 motherboards add ridiculously high voltage to the cpu by default, which not many channels have mentioned. Dropping that voltage will significantly lower the temps. Nice video and I really like the lighting!

@@devonkamplain6221 i got the same motherboard Meg Z390 Ace 9700k and cooler master ma410p and i never seen those kinda temps under normal load i idle 20 25 28 Celsius and usually hover between 28-30 or so and if im gaming its mid 40s mid 50s usually peaks 59 60- 65 sometimes at 4.7 4.8 ghz. I dont have enhanced turbo enabled i have it set on auto. And my voltage is auto also didnt feel the need to mess with it. My ram voltage on the other hand when it was set to auto i seen the bios would clock my ram voltage to 3.65 and peaked 3.70 volts but hardware monitor might me misreading those sensors its rated 3.50 volts so i manually set my ram voltage to 3.50 at its rated voltage and it still shows 3.60 or 3.65 volts for my ram for some reason.

power limits will be more important with these high core count cpus. i would recommend overclocking the cpu as far as you can with an app that is low power and then setting the power limit to soemthing that is reasonable for your board. when doing something that doesnt draw a lot of power like gaming it will boost to 5ghz or whatever your highest stable oc was and for pro work it will boost to 4.7 or so (whatever the power limit will allow). and i think short duration power limit isnt 10 seconds, i think its more like 10 milliseconds or or nanoseconds even. the duration in time that can be set in seconds is for the long duration. remember that short duration should be about 25% higher than long duration normally. the seconds setting will determine how long the power can be over the long duration limit before it begins to throttle. the short duration limit is for all intents and purposes instant. so as soon as it hits the short duration limit it will throttle instantly. thats why you want it higher. i wouldnt set the power to unlimited (4095). i would set about 135 long duration for 8700k and 160 short duration. for the others i would go maybe 200 long and 240 short for the 9900k. for the 9700k i would use the same power limits as the 8700k setting to unlimited is ok if your board will take it. but if you have a 150 dollar or lower mobo then the above settings are more appropriate. you may need to lower then 10% at a time if you encounter VRM throttling. and dont use prime 95 with avx. use the older 26 version or something like intel xtu and use the stress test built into it

Great video! However, I still didn't quite get what to do, as I'm a total overclocking noob. I'm assuming I could just follow these instructions, put in the values in my bios and voila; my system is overclocked? I have the 9700k, Aorus Z390 Pro and 32GB 3200 RAM (Vengeance LPX) combo, with a Noctua NH-U14S cooler. I'm going to use this rig for 70% editingand 30% gaming. Coming from a 3770, this is quite the upgrade for me and I really don't want to mess things up. Yet I do want to get the most out of my new machine and a stable one at that.

Running z390 aorus pro and 9900k stock. CPU-z shows voltage consumption of as high as 1.380volts when running cinebench r15, hwinfo shows power draw of as high as 140 watts. So basically 4.7ghz at a maximum of 1.360 - 1.380 volts with a maximum power consumption of 140watts. Running absolutely rock stable, but I sometimes think of undervolting, looking for some expert opinion in the subject.

Very nice and informative vid. Few days ago I did a build for my friend with i5-9600k and Gigabyte Z390 Gaming X. When "Enhance Turbo" option was enabled the motherboard boosted Vcore to around 1.35v, which resulted in high temperatures. And this option is still enabled by default in the BIOS. CPU was more than capable running max turbo on all cores with lower vCore. "Enhance Turbo" also seems to override the power limits for CPU because it took only this option to see the CPU power consumption rise above 120-130W (HWmonitor).

got it too, but with a 9900k. solid board, very solid, didn't had any problem with it, except the one you mentioned, the little overvolting. i put the voltage manually at 1.3 (it goes down till 1.16 in load), and it's rock solid in every stress test (under 70 degrees, with an DeepCool Assasin 2). Really, i didn't except that a midrange board like this will be so good, i expected some problems, but here they aren't. :D My last board was also from Gigabyte, a B350 Gaming 3 for Ryzen 1700x. Didn't had any problem with that board too, but with this one i expected some, cuz it was very cheap compared to others with the same chipset. Seems like some other producers came with some crappy boards, but they ask alot for them. This board has a fair price for what you get.

I know this is a year old but got a z390 and 9700k on the way. So what youre saying is turn enhanced turbo off if i can?
@CoreyPL
@CoreyPL 4 жыл бұрын
@@tipology You can either turn Enhanced Turbo off, but you will lose a bit of performance or you can leave ET on, but set maximum voltage to lower point. Second option requires a little bit of manual tinkering, monitoring etc. because every CPU is different. Boards usually boost the voltage to high levels so all the CPUs will be stable in Enhanced Turbo mode, which usually result in high temps. Just check if your CPU is experiencing high voltages and temps under full load (with HWMonitor or HWInfo for example) and then decide if it behaves normal or overvolt. Be sure to upgrade to the latest BIOS/UEFI since it could contain tweaks to the ET. I don't have access to this PC anymore, so I can't point you to any specific options in UEFI.

An i9 9900K at 5.2GHz is outstanding. According to Silicon Lottery only 11% reach 5.2GHz, so with that in mind, I do not know how you can recommend that CPU and motherboard combination. You simply got lucky. Almost 90% of buyers will NOT reach 5.2GHz on air or water. My i7 7700K will do 5.25GHz and my motherboard a Gigabyte Z270X UD5 because I wanted 2 Intel NICs, however I never recommended the i7 7700K to anyone early 2017, because I knew that I had won the silicon lottery. Otherwise a good review, except you could have shown more BIOS screens on that motherboard because Gigabyte is more complex when it comes to overclocking than other motherboards.

(temps idle are 33-38 degrees and under load on Cinebench or AIDA are 78-82 degrees .5ghz all cores ,AVX 0)

The video is informational, but when you cut to weird angle shallow depth of field video of your screen it makes it very difficult to follow because we're trying to sort out which menu you're in, and the general context of what we are supposed to be looking at. >

I've got a 9700k with the Z390 Aorus Elite, which I think has the same F5 BIOS as you show in your video. I noticed you don't show the Adpative VCore setting in the menu, as I similarly can't find it in my BIOS either. Not sure this motherboard supports Adaptive, only Auto and Normal modes, both wildly overvolting the CPU to as high as 1.5 volts at 5.1 GHz... stable, but excessive :/
@Greg-qs2jp
@Greg-qs2jp 5 жыл бұрын
Its running 1.5v dude because you pumped it up to over 5ghz which is way past the max turbo clock which is 4.9ghz the higher you push it past what's (recommended) then bet it to draw more voltage and watts. Honestly i doubt you'll be seeing any difference past 4.9ghz performance wise.

@e.e121
@e.e121 4 жыл бұрын
For gigabyte boards you need to set vcore to "normal" and then play around with the offset. If you're on stock clocks then you should be able to use a negative offset - maybe try -0.100 first and run stability testing. Work up to zero.

Good video but how the heck do you apply an offset voltage to the CPU. The motherboard is a Auros Master Z390 with a 9900k. Adaptive seems easy enough to apply but it is the offset one which I would like to try.

Is he lying about 5GHz or hastily generalizing? My 9700K throttles when overclocked to 4.7 and slightly undervolted (-0.02). Undervolting more causes computer to shutdown with some games. Temps in Prime95 stress testing without AVX are in midst 90C with eventual throttling. I think these 9700k, 9900k are terrible in taming temps down and hard to overclock, especially if RAM is in XMP mode. Intel should definitely start fixing overheating issue before putting these "overclockable" CPUs on the market.

This is clearly for the PO stepping of the cpus. On the newer RO steppings you are lucky to hold 5 ghz stable @ 1.35 volts. I didn't realize this until after I bought my 9900k that the 9900ks is getting all the good chips and I was essentially ensured to get a poorly binned chip with the current 9900k's out in the wild. Feels bad man but what can I do ?

Can you do a video on VCCIO and VCCSA. I have an ASUS rog strix z390-e with an i7 8700k and 32gb (4x8gb) tridentZ rgb Ram (3200mhz). This is my first time OC-ing. I did a Basic all core overclock to 4.7 ghz. Enabled xmp profile. Set LLC to 5. Left mostly everything else on auto. But I’ve noticed in hwmonitor and others that my VCCIO/vccsa seems very high. I tried to dial it back, but if I go any Lower than 1.3v VCCIO I get an endless “attempt to boot” loop and my pc won’t start without clearing CMOS. Why is this? Why must my VCCIO be 1.3v? Or is that fine and I shouldn’t worry about it?

Sir,I have Auros Z390 pro wifi (motherboard), 32gb ram , 1 standard 2TB HDD, 1 512GB Intel M.2 (containing operating system), 1 1TB Crucial NVME M.2(for game storage), 650Watt Power Supply. Earlier I had NVIDIA ZOTAC 1660 super 6GB OC and everything was fine . 2 days back I upgraded to RTX 2060 Super 8GB and my PC doesn't boot at all , When I press the power button all the lights glow and fan starts moving , after 2 to 4 seconds later. It doesn't boot and starts again and the same thing repeats (and yes nothing on the motherboard) But if I remove the "1TB Crucial NVME M.2(for game storage) " then everything is working fine.Please help me as after installing the RTX graphics card , I am not able to use my secondary NVME. I guess this is some BIOS settings problem or need update ,But I am not able to sort out myself.. Please HELP!!
