Something I found kind of interesting is that I was able to develop my sight reading skills and general playing a lot faster than my friends who didn't have any music or drumming background like I do. I'm not expert at either of these things for sure, but some of the skills I developed in those areas kinda translated over to beat saber. Just something to think about!
@anniek3866 Жыл бұрын
I play bass (and was in chorus for most of my life) and my brother is a drummer so we both began increasing our difficulty around similar times We are better at different patterns tho which is interesting I'm better when it's an odd pattern whereas he does great at drum roll types of movements

Very true. I played piano for a while and got pretty good at guitar hero so I was able to start beating expert songs in just 2 weeks of playing being already familiar with how rhythm games work.
@Subatomicfish3 жыл бұрын
As per tip #6, one of my favorite parts of beat saber is how I don’t tend to practice the same song over and over again (except for over the top stupid hard levels of course), instead I just go play a bunch of other ones and come back to it eventually to find that I’m able to do it super well! Grinding on a single level can be fun, but it’s not a thing I’d want to do for every decently difficult level, so it makes me happy that it’s relatively easy to develop a sense for lots of different levels just by playing what you can! I also consider this and the flow element to essentially be a form of fantasy fulfillment because it’s insane that we’re able to do these things at such high speed even when they’re so complex, but when you’re actually doing it it’s relatively easy just because you’ve built up the muscle memory for a lot of common patterns across many different levels.

I think you're absolutely right about the patterns. I played piano a little bit (definitely not gifted lol) and can read music a bit. @Caphalem3 жыл бұрын
One thing that I don't see mentioned in Beat Saber tips videos is something that I can see most experienced Beat Saber players, including Naysy here, do subconsciously. It's preserving energy through fluid movement. Basically, If you have a situation where you continuously need to move your arms (not wrists) up and down or left and right repeatedly don't use energy to stop your arm and make it move the other way, instead make it a rotation. Sort of like a U turn instead of reversing back in a straight line. The U turn does not need to be big. The point is to keep using the energy of your first swing to get into the next one thus increasing your endurance. (Jaroslav Beck - Escape (ft. Summer Haze) on Expert 50 second mark and many other marks almost forces you to do that with your right arm) For sight reading basics, usually (USUALLY) Beat Saber songs are made to be intuitive. If you swing with your left or right saber one direction then the next block will probably be in the opposite or close to opposite direction for that saber.

I find the “crab stance” to be very useful for harder songs but I also find that it hurts my arms a bit more. When I first tried play Ov Sacrament and Sincest I naturally went into the crab stance and within 30 seconds my arms were sore and tired. Also, mapping tip: Flow is very important when mapping. When mapping, make sure to check out the flow/parity section of the BSMG mapping wiki. You don’t want to have a down slice leading to another down slice because then the player’s arm will have to reset back up to hit the next note.

something she didn't mention (I think) is controller settings which definitely helps a lot if the grip u wanna use doesn't have a good swing angle or doesn't have the one you prefer. Changing controller settings can also reduce saber wobble (the wiggles in ur swing) which can help with accuracy and reducing bad cuts (when you hit a block in the wrong direction). Similar to grips it is something to mess around with and experiment. Also when switching grips or controller settings, give it some time, ur not gonna be used to it right away so give it a few days to try it out and get used to it. :)

I cant say enough about the "No Think". It truly is the #1 thing that helps because your reflex and action without mind is genuinely faster than you thinking. Thinking has a delay to send messages through your body to react in time, no thinking and potentially how your brain thinking (I trained mine to think as the notes are threats, so my body uses its shortcuts in reflexes to swing as fast as possible to react, whether I dodge, swing, or move)

I’m glad people like you exist. I’ve been struggling to upload (because there’s nothing for me to talk about) so I’m trying to get better at beatsaber on the quest 2 😃

i love the "dancing around like an idiot" part, that is what makes it fun to play (and makes your videos fun to watch). Also, the "not thinking" or getting in the flow was the hardest for me

so i just started the game and i played this one song called reality check something and i was having major tracking issues when the beat dropped. it was totally 100% tracking and not my lack of skill.

Sorry to hear that I think you should move on to another song ASAP

Every time I play beatsaber I go into a "flow" state. And I just go with the rhythm, no matter what the song. My friends are always so impressed. Me and my other friend are really good at beatsaber, I think its because we both are musicians so we have good rhythm.

I think this is a really good tips and tricks video. I feel the pain of inside out tracking having to keep your arms in front of the cameras and not putting them behind you, Learned that one real quick a while back lol. kinda makes it hard to get that full swing cause if u accidently move your arm in a certain way camera says bye bye and miss. Though i might try to do a little cover up thingy on the lights that my computer makes, might make a little difference in the tracking like u said^^

Thank you for the tips. They are very helpful to me since I have been playing Beat Saber for a week now. Like you I am more interested in the dancing than the score.

Just got the game for christmas! Really addictive! Put a lot of hours into it, and I've completed a few songs on expert mode already. Definitely makes me sore the next morning if I play for too long in one day though!

Love the channel, and turning off all the extra effects instantly made me go from the 4 BPS songs to the 5's. I can't believe how much of a difference it made, thank you!

Another tip that I use is this: (this may not work for everyone but it works for me) I figured out a while back that I was swinging my arms way too much. So if you try to keep the upper part of your arm glued to your body, and only moving your lower arm and wrists, it helps a lot. I used to think hard mode was super hard. Now I play expert+ :) have a great day

"Dance around like an idiot" - hey, the dancing is what makes you unique and so fun to watch! Anyway, claw grip player here, that was the single most significant thing that immensely improved my game play. The other thing is "no-fail". Playing with that and not getting discouraged when missing half the blocks is really important. Eventually you reach a stage where you disable no-fail for a particular map and find out you can finish it. The feeling when that happens, when you finish a map for the first time, is just super amazing, an intense feeling of accomplishment.

Added with tip 2 if you are struggling on a campaign map, use practice mode to speed up the song slowly, then when you go back to the campaign level it is easy to accomplish tasks as you can already do the same difficulty at a much faster pace.

I always forget you're from Australia! I'm Aussie too, but every time I hear you speak it takes a second to adjust to your accent. Thanks for these tips, though. I got an Oculus a few days ago and I'm stuck between Hard and Expert. No fail and the different grips are a game changer!

You are Amazing! Really helpful advice. I was pretty much done with Beat Saber because I was unable to advance past Expert difficulty, but after following some of theses steps I can tell I am getting better for sure and I am able to complete some Expert + songs now. I am also having much more fun dancing around with it too! I really think dancing helps out.

I have a very small and cluttered apartment and use a PSVR. The only space where I (almost) have enough room to play is quite far from my Playstation. The cable is constantly in my way and it's not long enough to drop it behind me. I also think my camera doesn't see the controllers when I swing back after hitting a block (the 60° thing you mentioned) so I keep getting D ranks even if I'm hitting all the blocks and am swinging away. It sucks! I turned off all of the scoring hubs, because it just ruins the fun for me. Now I just dance and try not to care about the score. :) Still very frustrating to lose my flow because I'm hitting that stupid cable though... And sometimes the camera loses track of the controllers completely and they just start floating around. I love this game, but it's just not very playable in my apartment.

The "Dont Think" is something I noticed the last few times I have played. I do so much better when I just go with it. If I start panicking with missing a box then I start messing up more. The rythyms start getting predictable and you wont have to really think about it.

This video really helped me! I'm doing better already! My grip with the Index was close to what they call the claw grip in the picture... But it never occured to me to put my index finger over the wrist strap like that, and it seems to really help.

The best tips are definitely don't look too far out as the blocks do a fake out. They appear down then flip up. Instead of staring at each block just slice where the white is. This allows you to go full zen and slice without thinking
