The tutorial has changed the game for my gain staging! For sidechaining I prefer using devious machines duck which I have full control how deep and long the sub ducks for the kick or snare. No click track needed. I use track spacer to sidechain compress competing frequencies or for the vocal to shine ✨

nice! but can anyone explain how to use the template though? I'm just confused as to why is everything is hitting all these limiters when there all set to 0db? is the ceiling on the limiter meant to higher or lowered depending on the sound? if all the sounds are gain staged correctly the limiters aren't doing anything because the sound sare nowhere near 0db on the faders? I would be really appreciated someone explaining this to a noob! I'm very confused!

Wired-Up Same here. I have an EQ 2, a multiband compressor (rn it’s Maximus) slight reverb on my master. My premaster is the same. My sub BUS (set to mono) and “everything over 80hz” BUS has an EQ 2, and a limiter/compressor. All of my other BUSes and channels feed into those groups respectively. I’m still tweaking some stuff.

I really love your in-depth walkthroughs! One question: What's the benefit(s) of using a separate audio track for your "Sidechain Trigger" and manually placing the triggers as wav clips? I usually just sidechain directly to a specific drum pad... Like if I want my sub bass to duck when the kick drum hits, I put compressor at the end of my sub bass channel, select the drum channel as the compressor's "audio from" input, then select the "Kick (Pre FX)" drum pad from the dropdown menu. You obviously know what you're doing, so I'd love to know what I might be missing in my normal workflow. Thanks Ahee!
@fredeatstheworld3084 жыл бұрын
the advantage is that you can control the lenght of the input so if you don't want to cut the tails of a sound in a bass for an example you can use the transient of a kick and the first few 10-50ms or however long the sound you sidechain needs you put the sidechain attack to 1 aka dont touch it at all so the lenght of your input decides the lenght of the sidechain it is also a very powerful creative tool if you wanna do different rhythmic pumps
@coreybramwell6353 жыл бұрын
To have a shorter duck that for the transient rather than the whole duration of the kick. I’ve found the best of both worlds is to use duck by devious machines which is a volume shaper allowing you to have full control of the length and depth of the ducking. No click track needed.

The annoying this about sc triggers is that you have to spend all that time lining them up. I am pretty sure there is a way to do it more efficiently with midi but I'll have to fiddle with it. The other thing I wish was possible (if it is pls tell me) is to have a master sidechain that you can send to different channels so you can keep the settings consistent instead of having to adjust each sc to match each other. I feel like I would have way more solid sounding mixes this way.
@SnoMan18184 жыл бұрын
Geoffrey Carter use external instrument routed to your ducking tool and place midi on that channel for sidechain. Route your buss/group to send the audio to the channel with the ducking tool. Bam easy sidechainint
@keithpieniazek14 жыл бұрын
Add an audio channel. Label it "Sidechain" Add a compressor to that channel. Set up the compressor to your "master" sidechain settings. Under the I/O settings of the Sidechain channel, set the "Audio From" to "No Input", set the Monitor from "Auto" to "IN" and things get orange. Whatever channel you want to have the "master" sidechain applied to - set the "audio out" to the Sidechain channel. All that being said - I don't like this method because it limits some other routing methods which I like and a "master" sidechain doesn't work for me.... chords get different sidechain than bass... for me. Play with this method and have fun!

Great video and templates! Quick questions: 1. Why not use the fabfilter Pro C2 for side chaining? You can set it up the same way as ableton's but with the Pro C2 you will need to active external side chaining by clicking the advance controls tab and baaaaam you have side chaining without having to create another track or have ghost kicks and snares to trigger!! With the pro c2 You wont need a trigger channel at all. 2. I love the Pro L2 limiter! It also has a great updated features like being able to check LUF Metering ands true value peak control and what i love the most is the 1.1 button. I love being able to set the limiter with out it getting loud so you can actually hear what the limiter is doing. Sometimes we can be fooled to thinking just because its louder it sounds better! So I would love to know what you set your output on thePro L? Some say -1.0 and some have told me to set it 0.30 or like 0.01, 0.02??? In Pro L2 its called output but some would call it the ceiling Great video like always bruh! We appreciate your hard work and sharing so much value!! Keep up the amazing work and have a great day and fabulous week!

Greatest Sports HighLights you achieve Sidechain using any technique, I just prefer this way because I get great results I’m happy with. I don’t really pay attention to my Pro L outputs anymore. I used to pay more attention but I started getting better results when I stopped worrying about that stuff and focused on wether it sounded clean or not and comparing levels in Span. Really freed my mind. Learn that from Seth Drake who masters Bassnectar & Travis Scott.

@@OfficialAHEE Thank you! I hear bruh, I could care less about Seth Drake because he has equipment and a studio we both don't have access too, So It's hard to go by what they say because treated room and gear they have in a studio is totally different from a home/bedroom studio that is not treated! Totally different sound! This doesn't mean we don't keep an open mind about the advice he may provide, we just also keep an open mind that things may sound different compared to artist with access of a studio and engineer and ect that labels can provide! I also asked because a library we submit wanted -0.2 over the peak. My thoughts was like it sounds good? They said yes but, we have certain standards we ask for! So Having to deal with certain publishers and libraries it matters to them! I guess if you just making music for an artist/ youtube/ Spotify and just a following it wont really matter as long as it sounds good! However when getting placement they want their stems a certain way and the peak to be at -0.1 or -0.2, it never made sense to me as long as the music sounds good right?!?!?! LOL Some of these libraries have standards. We going to re watch that span video again it sure will help out big time! Thanx again for replying and also providing these amazing videos! I've been using the Skrillex template with amazing results but I have one major issue. All of the Pro=Ls that I have on the chains, premaster and master are causing 64ms latency each and, in turn, is cause a lot of GUI lag (which is making small edits a nightmare since the playhead isn't technically live or accurate). @matrixate8 ай бұрын
@@UTUBE1102it's been years since I left this comment, and now I actually produce for a studio. MG was right all along. Use a clipper, NOT a limiter. The way WE tame peaks is by gradually clipping with oversampling and bouncing down the sample while freezing the track. If you need to go back, just unfreeze. This way, you don't get any latency whatsoever. Zero latency. The only thing you need to consider, is what clipper to use. I am not paid for promoting, so I'll let you research for one. You can get free ones...I would suggest those first.
