Ok, so not part of the video, but the part where you take out the display cables worked for me. I took out the cables then tried the thing with holding f2 but nothing showed up, but I didn’t really have anything else to do, so I reconnected the display cable and finished up and closed the computer. I then decided to test out the computer 1 last time before leaving it for the day. When I turned on the laptop the screen suddenly flashed on. Not even kidding, I thought I was dreaming and I tried to do a reality check, which would then turn out to be that I’m not dreaming, and then all the memories of the mental torture with the screen not working came back so fast. I genuinely cannot describe how thankful I am for seeing this video. Thank you so much.

Pro tip: Unplug the battery and discharge the residual power (by holding the power button for a few seconds) BEFORE plugging/unplugging the LCD cable. With the battery connected it's quite easy to short out the pins on the connector and blow your backlight fuse or circuit.

Thanks! I have a MSI GS70 which has a damaged screen. I am looking to convert it into an all-in-one desktop but wanted to make sure that I could access the BIOS before disassembling it. I had a Lenovo Legion laptop, I decided to remove the SSD NVME M.2 which had windows 10 installed as well as some of the necessary software/program files. I had not formatted the SSD and I simply decided to insert it onto my Asus ROG Laptop which I have turned on after a year; the Asus laptop did not have a HDD or an SSD inserted which meant that it did not have an OS (Windows). So now as I have inserted the new Rams & the new SSD, I switch on the laptop but it is still not displaying the image. The next step was to disconnect the ribbon cable because I wanted to eventually use the external monitor as my primary display while using the laptop as the Keyboard and The CPU/GPU. Now my laptop’s display panel along with the screen has been removed along with the wire. So what remains is the base of the laptop that holds everything except of the display. The issue still remains. There is still no display while the laptop is powered on and I can hear the fan’s noise but I cannot see anything due to the black screen. Is this happening because of the SSD? No asus logo, no boot up at all; only a blank black screen with the fan and the laptop running.

If i keep the original LCD screen connected to the laptop (DELL) i can easily switch between screens (both VGA and HMDI) but my goal is to disconnect the original LCD and force the laptop to use only externals. If i disconnect the original LCD from the mobo (like you did) and run only with external monitor im stuck at the very first screen at boot (Dell logo, no OS yet) and wont go any further.... Thanks for the great tutorial. My problem is that windows 10 has recently dropped my 10 year old graphics card from support and, although my screen still works, it cuts to black frequently and is impossible to work with. When I connect an external monitor using the vga or hdmi ports on my computer, they draw signal from the internal graphics card (which apparently cannot be replaced in this machine) and the monitor acts the same way as the built in screen. So, I have connected an external monitor using a usb to vga adapter and this is working just fine. My question is, do you think that using the procedure you used, the system will find a usb monitor when it boots up.

Thank you for these very helpful instructions. I don't know if someone already mentioned it,I'd just like to add that there is a third option, which can also help inplement the second with a broken screen, and that is simply to close the computer (with "do nothing" as the parameter for when you do this) and then launching an advanced reboot from settings---recovery. I just did this with my broken screen, and it enabled me to switch on the "wake up with mouse" option, so I can always leave it closed.

Did you disconnect then reboot? It may be the case that this does not work on your particular laptop. You may have to replace the LCD screen. You should be able to find a replacement screen out there for cheap I know its more work and more pain, it may be your only choice :(
@RoxyVRensburg6 жыл бұрын
I don't think I did reboot. I managed to get it working again, saw another video starting the laptop & closing it immediately, forcing the external monitor to work. Ok. It worked.....till I tried the BIOS setting utility process I initially was following on your vid but everytime I try it, I think my laptop is the f6 but nothing happens when I press f1 / f2 /f6 /f10. I done a procedure by HP where they tell me to put laptop off, hold windows & "b"keys in at the same time, then power on keeping finger on power button for 3 seconds, letting go but keep pressing on windows & "b" key till "beep" sound is made then letting go. Nothing works not even the internal monitor then goes on. I reconnected the lcd connector again. Now I'm on an HP page that's running all these tests but I need to get to the BIO settings as the laptop network is constantly a redX & doesn't pick up my wifi router. So another vid showed me where to go but that led me to your video due to the cracked screen & not being able to get the bios settings on the external monitor. Is there another solution? I don't have an external or bluetooth keyboard as yet so I do need that laptops keyboard.

I know that's a different problem, but maybe you can give me a tip. I have an Asus ROG G75VX and it didn't boot. Then I plugged an external monitor and it booted like a charm with the external monitor as its primary. Then I switched to the laptop monitor and set that as primary. Now again it boots ONLY with an external monitor connected and immediately switch to the laptop's monitor. If you put the laptop in sleep mode it resumes without an external monitor. So I guess it has to do with the boot part only. Any guesses?

whiteboardcoder exactly. It's like the controller got recalibrated. I removed Linux after setting em up the same as Windows as far as primary screen goes. Now I will do a clean format and hope for the best. The external monitor goes on and off? Or do you mean the Laptop LCD screen goes on and off? Well I guess either way I am not an expert on replacing/repairing monitors I just fiddle with what I have. I did find a few links that may help you www.tomsguide.com/forum/79244-35-asus-n61jq-laptop-screen-working www.asus.com/us/support/FAQ/1012723/

I am still here. I wish I could help but every laptop is unique and the techniques I used here may not work on some machines :( Best to find a local geek who can get hands on and help ya.
