I always really love your tank setups, and clown loaches are my favorite fish. I just upgraded my turtle tank - hes still a baby so this 55 gallon is huge for him. I am thinking about getting some clown loaches for this and upgrade some years later when they get huge.

You won't regret getting them. One of my favorite fish too. I've basically done the same thing by raising them in a 65. Depending on the size you get them, the 55 should be fine to keep them in for few years as they grow pretty slow.

Hi Connor: I just purchased seven very healthy juvenile clowns yesterday. They are presently in quarantine under observation and should all go well in two to three weeks, they’ll be transferred into a 180 gallon. I’m keeping my fingers crossed while in quarantine or in the 180 gallon, they don’t catch “skinny (wasting) disease”. 🤞 I’ve had a history of this problem and should history repeat, this will be my last purchase.

Really great information here! These are one of my favourite bottom dwelling fish…I keep them with my African Cichlids and are a great addition to my tank :)

Thanks a lot for the great informative video…i never actually thought of getting some clown loaches unless the vendor just before shiping my order told me that they had 2.5inch sized clown loaches available so i got 4 of them…and later i bought 2 more from my LFS when luckily they had a few…i initially kept them in my 40 gallon and i thought to powerfeed them so that they grew fast so that i could add them to my 300 gallon mostly afrcian cichlid tank which also has a green terror and synspilum vieja,peacocks haps and a few mbunas…they were very happy in the 40 gallon with the more peaceful community fish like the angelfish,geophagus tapajos (2”) and i used to powerfeed them for about 3 times a day…they are around 3 inches now and i couldnt wait to add them to the 300 gallon and i did so and it was concerning for me as all of them were chasing them around…but now things seems to be stable but the green terror(5”) and ethe vieja(6”) always try to pick on them only wen the loaches as a gang swim straight to their face…these guys just swim straight to them and then dodges well too…but it is really concerning for me as i can see very small abrasions which is actually not that much on like 2 or 3 of them…could be because of the occasional nibble by the green terror or the vieja but these guys dont seem to mind that and still swim straight to their face always…But the green terror or the vieja doesnt seem to chase them but its only when the loaches are swimming straight to their faces they try to nib…But all the other fishes dont mind them at all most of the time…I am very much confused about i should leave them in the 300 gallon itself or i shud muv them back to the 40 gallon and wait for a year so that they cud grow about 2-3 more inches more…They seem happy in the 300 gallon as they are always swimming around the whole tank throughout the day…but its the bullies i am worried about…What should i do?

I currently have six clown loaches(4 in 55 gallon and 2 in 180 gallon tanks) and want more but the prices on them have skyrocketed so really have to think on it. My oldest is probably going on 7 years and over six inches long. Its colour has faded some but the stripes are still vibrant. Have them housed with a variety of fish including red tail botias, yoyo and several kuhli loaches. Occasional sparring but overall everyone gets along.

Cool to hear that. I've seen the same with prices over the last few years. Especially if they are larger than 2 inches the prices get steep real quick. If you are in the US and depending how you feel about chain stores they can usually be pretty cheap there still. Usually $10 each at Petsmart although pretty small like 1-1.5 inches. You just have to keep in mind that quarantining them is definitely recommended and deworming too.

I agree I love clown loaches too and this is true. My largest (between 5-6 inches) still has their stripes showing solid. I hope it stays like that for as long as possible.

Would 4 Clowns be to many for a 75g tank. With about 8 American cichlids?
@TheAquaticCoder

They'll be fine when young but at 6+ inches they really should have a 100+ gallon tank. It takes them 3-5+ years to get that size though.

Clown loaches actually do good with most Cichlids if there are hiding spots and the Clown Loaches aren't too small.

@@TheAquaticCoder Clown Loach are Asian. They come from Asia. Why the fuck do you put them in a tank with african and hispanic fish ? Asian race fishes wood prefer not to interact with tyrone and julio.

clown loaches are so prone to disease. They can have great diet, great water and good tank mates. And they will still die very fast.

True, maximum time I had them was almost exactely 1 year. Six gorgeous fish died one at a time due to a itch outbreak even with water treatment. Never again will keep them.
