It was a rad venue, Kurdt had signed the wall sooooo many rad bands tagged their name there! From Bad brains to NYHC like Agnostic and WAR ZONE. They actually are really rad dudes!! Was gonna spent per diem on brew and I was "nahh... this bands rad! I'll buy a pin instead!" Merch girl just hooked me up! Sooo rad! Knew they were cool cause Fat wreck!! Plus we were heading that tour of ours. They were a band we played with were I was "man!! I gotta check them out"

yes 100% last time I felt I heard a new innovative band was The Flatliners.. nice to see Fat Wreck put out innovative music in this era too. This is rap, ska and punk in the 2020s. Just what we need today. Add rap to ska punk and it's Operation Ivy with 35 years of experience. Fantastic shit, I can see the kids getting down to Get Dead

Digging through their old tracks, their styles been all over the place, each track sounds like a different band. like they've been trying to find their sound. I think we can officially say they found it with this new album. It's much more cohesive, like they've blended up all their previous sounds and sounds truly unique to them. Well done guys

Agree fully. So many on Fat Wreck, whilst they are great talented bands, they tended to sound the same musically with different vocalists and vocal styles being the main thing differentiating, but they have been upping their game the last 10 years or so, with acts that you dont listen to for 30 seconds and say, yeah they must be on fat wreck, their playing modified power-chords with octave chords layered over, and basically sound like NOFX only they dont do it as well... I have been impressed with a more diverse, artistically and musically mature, Fat Wreck, of late, (last ten years or so, Im old, or, excuse me, I'm "Vintage" so a decade is "lately" to me) I'm glad I stuck with them even when most of their acts bored me, it payed of in dividends.

Lot of people talk a lot of shit about this guys. Personally I think mike knew what he was doing when he signed these guys. Get Dead is personal and visceral, as real as punk gets.

The company I work for sent me to a sister company office today, at my Anaheim office i am alone, this Long Beach office has an open floor with different areas, for reference. So i listen to music while I am doing copywriting and production analysis and product review write ups. I fucking rock out and sing punk and hip hop and all in my office. Today i was in Long Beach late, got comfortable and started jamming the fuck out thinking i am alone. Some Project Manager named Ronny who looks a bit like HR from Bad Brains, i met him once at the last Christmas party but know nothing about him really, strolls up behind me and catches idk how much of me singing this song. He looks worked up as i take my Beats off and turn to talk. Figure it is going to be "What the fuck are you doing Bob?" He says "Bud, thats Get Dead you were singing!" With a big smile. Fuck yeah i affirm. "Dude have you seen them live? And heard the Codefendants yet?" Did we just become best friends? Yup! Crime Waves strike in odd places, and today i made a new music friend at work. Fuck yeah. Sounds basic but being a mid-40s punker in the corporate world can be lonely 😂😊
@RobertDecker-o5jАй бұрын
Went to see DFL, Get Dead and the Codefendants play a matinee show at Alex's Bar in Long Beach today, it was amazing. Plus Sam showed up at 2pm and spent the day hanging with fans and friends, coolest fucking guy ever and super gracious. I write freelance and another friend of mine who is on Fat Wreck recommended I speak with Sam because he knows how obsessed I am with This is Crime Wave but couldn't get a hold of him. Sam, with no hesitation, says fuck yeah we do an interview and accepts the fact that I am doing it long form, gives me his number and says we will make it happen. Ceschi same thing, says absolutely and is just so fucking nice the whole day thru. Plus total fucking bonus occurs when i run into Myra and Linh from Bad Cop, the other band I have been wanting to get with and do a piece on. Again, super gracious ladies, totally on board with doing it and tell me to follow up next week. I love Punk Rock for this reason, so accessible. 30 years in the scene and still the favorite thing in the world because of the people and what they have to say. Whoever said "Never Meet Your Heroes" obviously wasn't a fucking punk rocker.

Puh... it's not easy to sing along with Sam: This place is barley believable A lot of strange cases A million ways to fall in love With all of the mistakes It’s a perfect place to keep up with the pace To navigate a maze meticulously Engineered to make a payday Hey hey Who are you what’s your deal? What did you come here to take? Are you for real are those your friends? This is a respectable place To keep it a hundred We came to plummet Fuck the dumb shit Makе ya dance till we see The contents of your stomach Papa has got a brand-new bag a powder Just to keep it raw Momma keeps a look out for The whiskey shots and Johnny law To all my hooligans in this polluted room My friends the time has finally come to show ‘em How to run some jewels and dip Catch a beating catch some feelings Catch a case or catch a cold Bet you cannot catch us We keep it moving like DiCaprio Behavior thuggish Hate it or love it Underground or above it Everybody’s gone gonna get dead Run it

Hells yeah buddy! So kind and approachable too. I went to a few Get Dead and Codefendants shows and they have always been cool, but my buddy JeC told me after doing an interview "Man, you need to get with Sam from Get Dead, that dude is my favorite to tour with and he has a great story to tell and wisdom to share. I would put you with him but he is kinda off the grid, no set address beyond Mike's place and I can't give you that one without clearing it, I will try to get a number for you though." I was stoked because JeC knew I was a Get Dead fan, and this was 1.5 years ago after CoDefs had dropped This Is Crime Wave and I was just stuck on the beauty and poetic honesty and awesomeness of it, of course it lit the fire to listen to all the related stuff; Ceschi, Older Get Dead, N8noface, 2Mex, etc. So upon attending a smaller show I see Sam having a smoke, and boom! Approved the interview I need for a series/book project and is just the best. Then an 2 hours later Ceschi shows up and I approached him and 2Mex, fuck yeah he is on board, just get with Sam on the details but he is in. Fucking cool. I explain to Sam this is a both standard print interview and long form literary journalism project I am working on and he says we will figure out a way to get some time in for that. Puts on the best fucking Get Dead and Codefendants sets ever in the small club in Long Beach, get a bunch of other stuff either cooking or locked because all kinds of band members are there to see the show. Ends, grab a round of beers for the guys that drink, hugs from a very sweaty Ceschi and crew, say goodbye to Sam and as I am leaving in the parking lot my phone alert bings. Message says Why Don't You Come Out to the Crime Wave House in Vegas, stay a couple days and watch our process, and maybe hit the punk rock museum and just see what unfolds. ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME? Sam and Ceschi have experience that makes it so both appreciate a motherfucker chasing his dream and grinding for it to come true. Dates are set, and while being a journalist with a bunch of degrees from Public Ivy Colleges means you are not supposed to be enamored with your subjects and remain completely objective, being a punk rock loving, skateboarding, guitar playing multiple felon who grew up in poverty and hell in Long Beach and ended up with two ex wives, two Felonies, and two long stints of incarceration anf many self destructive pass times, well, it makes it hard to not just fucking adore these guys. Anyway, hope you get the chance to meet them if you have not already. If so don't be shy. Much love from Long Beach, Captain Tae-Boe Bob-O
