Thanks for the memories - Denny Hovinga, Bob Shryock, Gale White, Arnie Braland and several others I can’t remember their names. Racing at Alta, Algona, Fairmont, Boone. Those were the good old days of racing. Great to see the changes over the years with the changes in the cars. Everyone trying to build a faster race car than the other guys.

Awesome pictures of the Danbury Racearena! I’m actually going to the Spring Sizzler at Stafford this weekend, and was texting an old driver from Danbury, hoping to meet him. I built a model of his 81 car, that actually sits in a museum for the Racearena. Hope to see him, and reminisce about the old days

@ 8:10, that’s Sonny Hutchins from Richmond, Va. The car was built and owned by the famous Wood Brothers of Stuart, Va. who still field a NASCAR Cup car! The track is Bowman Gray Stadium in Winston-Salem, NC. @ 8:41, Billy Hensley of Ridgeway, Va. related to Jimmy Hensley of NASCAR Truck series fame. Billy had over 200 career victories, most if not all in the modified division. Retired from racing in 1980, and passed away in 2017. Was always a key player at Bowman Gray Stadium!

Thank you for posting the photo of the incredibly talented Danbury Fair Racearena 9 time champion ,208 total win s and many time most popular driver ,the great Chick Stockwell ! I was there for many of them and I saw a lot the greats at Thompson ,Stafford and Waterford and I rate the Woodbury pilot right there with any of them . In those days were the crowds at Danbury better then Stafford and Thompson?
@downtownbobbybrown62373 жыл бұрын
@@jamiecrawford8133 I would say yes .I didn't go to Stafford And Thompson alot but I just got out a Danbury program from 1967 and the total attendences were 119,425 for 67 with july1 st at 5,383 and july 8 th at 9 ,529 as the highest .when the gates opened you had to run like hell to get your favorite seat .

The Plaid painted Midget @1:00, Was quite an accomplishment. Judging by the photo it hat to be from the lat 50's to maybe the early '60s. I don't think that they had vinal wraps that long ago . But the Sponsor was a Ford dealer in Denver so maybe they had access to something different

9:18 is Fred Desarro in the #10 Corvair. I think the car is one of Sonny Koszela's. I can't place the track though. I don't recognize covered grandstands.

The Danbury modified late modeled body car #65 was originally Lou Funk JR s mopar kit car , later on driven to victory lane by Keith Cyr and I was right on Jack Cote in the #15 coupe being the father of John Cote ,the present and long time driver of the #9 at the Bethel Motor Speedway , NY. Still working on the driver of Don s coupe with #94, maybe Barlow or Bouley, anyone have a guess?

2:24 is Don Kibbe at the Waterford Speedbowl around 1967ish. I was only 4 or 5 years old but I used to root for him because he lived near us in Rhode Island. If I remember correctly they used to call him "The Milk Man" because he drove a milk truck as a day job. The skinny front tire on the left front provides the date stamp because these open wheel coupes didn't all start running a slick on the left front until 1968 or 9. Back then these cars were "flexible flyers", before extra chassis tubing was used to stiffen the frames. My dad used to take me down to turn 1 & 2 and show me how the left front tire was coming off the ground through the turns. The theory was that if the tire is hardly on the track, why should we spend the $ on a slick?
