Knipex makes great stuff. As a mechanic I’ve been using their products for years and have never been let down. The prices may seem high to some but it’s a true buy it once product. Some of the pliers I use have got to be close to, if not over, twenty years old and still going strong. No issues with rust to speak of either.

I have been carrying fencing pliers in my GHB for many years now. I call them my multi-tools big brother. Although it weighs about as much as the small bolt cutters, it also hammers, pulls nails, crimps and has a fence staple pry point that would make a serious self defense tool. Since they are made by so many companies, you should be able to find at least one that will let you sell them on your web site.

i don't know why the "MISSION:IMPOSSIBLE" theme started playing in my mind while you were cutting the fence. in some jurisdictions they might be considered "tools of the trade." thanks for sharing, Leatherneck. Semper Fi.

I’m pretty sure a decent pair of lineman pliers or diagonal cutter can get through standard chain link fencing and are probably a little smaller

I got the 200mm version and work great, then i got the smallest too, 160mm, super compact and yet still good for chainlink fence, of course it takes a bit more force, but they are also even more compact and lightweight, so it's worth it

I've bought a couple of knipex tools in their 8" or 200mm range, the bolt cutters handle cutting commercial grade razor wire easily and the cable cutters are handy for use on marine grade rigging wire used as tension wires on fences and awnings, some landscaping/construction tools are good to have in a GHB/BOB

There is a better version designed for fencing. KNIPEX Tools - CoBolt Fencing Compact Bolt Cutter With Notched Blade (7131200R) It has a reduced hardness from 64 to 62 rockwell. You got me to buy this cutter, thanks, came in yesterday.

The Leatherman surge can cut through barbed wire and chain link fences very easily and has other tools on it.

Been using Knipex products for 20 years. Best stuff out there. I have several of their bolt cutters including the 200mm. It’s a great all around, pocketable cutter. But, I would like to make a correction to what you said about multi tools not being able to cut chain link fence. With a bit of effort, you can cut chain link with a pair of Leatherman. I’ve done it several times. Anyways, yes, the Knipex would make it easier.

you can equip a t-shank metal saw on a Surge and cut much thicker metal. same with wood.

@survivalresources5 жыл бұрын
No sure. Maybe small ones. They will cut hardwire up to 5/32

@@survivalresources Thanks John. I've been trying to find a pair that cuts small steel cables. Not easy to find.

Knipex also have cable shears/cutters, I've used em to cut 5.5mm stainless steel rigging wire when fitting sun shades here in Blighty

Yes, they do. I‘m from Germany and whereas there are some other very fine pliers makers around here, the majority of craftsmen favor Knipex. Still 100% made in Germany and the largest pliers manufacturer in the world. I am just a DIY‘er and spent a fortune on my 32 pliers from them, I inherited one flat grip one from my dad which are 60 years in use and in good shape.

While I agree that a more portable set of bolt cutters can come in handy for the scenarios you describe, I would argue a common fence tool / fence pliers would be overall more effective. They are noticeably cheaper, about the same size & weight, you get multiple cutting options, as well as leg & hammer options in the same tool.
