Get My CDL - My Experiences & How I Got My CDL Training

Meet Bob O'Connor, a CDL holder and driver for Roehl Transport. 1 year ago, Bob decided it was time for a career change. In this video, Bob starts off by telling his story, which includes him working 2 jobs at a time just to make ends meet. At one point, Bob lost both jobs and started to fall behind on his financial obligations. He realized it was time for a change. He wanted something new. For years, Bob had always thought he could do well at driving a commercial truck for a living. With this in mind, Bob started to research a career in truck driving. Bob was under the impression that he would simply be able to walk into his local DMV office, pay for a Commercial Driver's License (CDL), and be on his way to driving a truck full time. He quickly learned that there was more to getting a CDL and a job driving a truck. Not only did he need to pass multiple written tests and a skills test, he also needed to have a minimum of 6 months experience of over the road driving in a commercial vehicle to even be considered for a job in trucking. With this information, Bob began to research truck driving schools. Bob's neighbor worked at a local community college and during a discussion, his neighbor mentioned they had a truck driving program. There was a problem. The cost. Bob learned it was going to cost him upwards of $5000.00 to attend truck driving school. With no job and no savings, this was going to be next to impossible. Bob decided to do some research online and see what his options were. During his research, he kept stumbling upon results that mentioned "company-sponsored CDL programs", where trucking companies offer paid CDL training (you essentially get paid to get your CDL).
In comes Roehl. After reading countless reviews, researching trucking company track records (safety, how they treat their employees, compensation, and benefits), Bob decided that Roehl checked all the boxes. Wow, your story is the exact same as mine! I will start my training on Jan 3 2022. You seem like such a calm professional person. I have signed up for flatbed as well. I hope you're my trainer. I have about 20 years experience but that was a few years ago. I had to retest my written again and now have my learners permit. Hi! I am in Illinois and have a PERFECT personal driving record. I have literally gone 20 years without even being pulled-over! No criminal record, I do not drink and have *never* used drugs (except the prescription medicine I take to keep my BP perfect.) This seems to be an exceptional opportunity, particularly given the fact that I am single and can accommodate ANY schedule immediately. One thing however: I'm pretty strong, bit I am only 5'7" tall. Am I tall enough to drive these trucks?

Because of my business that I've been running now full-time for the past 20 years, and since hurricane season is approaching (I live in TX along the Gulf Coast), and because I want to enjoy one more holiday season with my adult sons, I'm waiting until January to start my new trucking career. Good questions! You'd do the full training to upgrade your CDL to a Class A. We train near our terminals in Wisconsin, Indiana and Georgia. Your CDL would be in Nevada. We provide lodging and most meals, and of course, you are paid while you are training.

Im 58 and have been retired almost 2 years now. I've been living 'the dream ' in my retirement home in the Philippines the entire time of the COVID crisis. I HATE it! I did! The training is top notch. Roehl will prepare you well to pass the CDL exam. Hotel stay is covered and you are paid $500.00 per week during training.
