Yep same way in central Alabama. Almost impossible to get a lease around here anymore period, nobody wants to be bound to someone. If they won’t put it in writing year to year we don’t fool with it.

Most Americans words aren’t worth a damn anymore. We live in a me country now. Greed is going to be our undoing. If I give you my word you can take it to the bank. That’s the way I was raised and the way we raised our kids. Nothing but a good firm handshake. God help us.

Damn... that's unreal. This is exactly what I'm worried about some main land I rent in the sense of when the landlord passes away, could lose a slug and ruin the outlook. Had a neighbor about 20 years ago (may he R.I.P.) was forced to sell his buffalo because some pasture was getting taken away from him... pretty much was backstabbed by a couple people that were supposedly "good friends." Lost a fortune... if he would have been able to keep them for another 3 months he would have turned a good profit. Instead it ended his farming career at that point.

I have been there. Sorry to hear that. I guess your area is like it is here. Everyone is moving in and pay twice what land is worth

I know how you feel. We lost our pasture lease a few years ago when the lady we rented from died. All her kids cared about was how quick they could cash in on the land. Luckily I had enough pasture at my house to move them too. Good luck I hope everything turns out good.

Sad part not only in farming does a handshake and a mans word mean nothing anymore. I'm in the oil industry (just starting a small farm started) and its becoming the norm to have things told face to face man to man and get the same lies you experiencing. Good luck and God bless!
