I'm sure that you've read all these comments about rewatching the movie with new eyes, but in the beginning, when Rose and Chris are going to her parents home, and there is a song playing over the credits- The words are Swahili and translate to "brother! run! listen to your ancestors!". Everything is warning Chris away. Also, GREAT EYE for recognizing Lakeith Stanfield from the beginning when he appeared at the party. I hadn't ever seen him before and he looks so different that it took me a while to realize it was the same guy.

After you've seen the whole movie, Rose preventing the highway cop from getting Chris's ID now seems sinister instead of helpful. She was trying to prevent a police record being made of him being there, with her so he could be found.

@@aaliyahstark7948 seriously! I have absolutely seen this probably 200+ times, & I noticed new details every watch. I feel bad for any films that will come out in the future or have since this one, nothing can top it. I’m not even sure if jordan peele himself can top this work. 😂

@@aaliyahstark7948like when he tells rose he won’t abandon her, when he’s explaining he wants to leave. I’m assuming that’s a reference to the situation when his mother died. Just noticed that upon this watch.

Going even further: That highway cop might have been aware of reports of young black guys disappearing in the area. Could be why he wanted the ID in the first place.

Male slaves were referred to as "bucks". And the "bucks" were auctioned off to slave owners after being brought over from Africa. I love that he (dad) was killed by a "buck" WITH a "bucks" head. That is the deer symbolism. What I also find interesting is that when the dad talks about why he hates deer, it basically sums up how a lot of wh*te people feel about black people.

When I first saw this, I was so taken aback at the part where she told him to “sink into the floor”, and then they showed him deep inside his subconscious but still with vision. It felt so uneasy. And scary. And so helpless. This movie is so good

Lol I’m still shocked that y’all were willing to give her the benefit of doubt until the final 20-or-so minutes of the film 😂 This really does show some bias that people don’t even notice. I noticed right away that she was off from how she had a way of making him feel bad for even suggesting something that he’d observed. It was repetitive, like when manipulative people learn a tactic that works and just keep using it until it grows stale.

Maybe the cop wanted to get Chris' ID because a bunch of people have gone missing in the general area. I am sure that was kinda the main reason Rose didnt want Chris to show it. Not wanting to leave a trail 😀 Details like this get a whole another meaning once you finish the movie. And there is plenty more of them. It is a really well done movie. 👌🎬

Great reaction! Such an unsettling mood for the entire movie. There is a ton of foreshadowing and symbolism throughout the movie that you can pick up on a rewatch. For example, he picks cotton to save his life and all those people drove black cars to the party since they did hope to "drive" black people eventually. Will keep an eye out for your other Jordan Peele reactions.

When I watch ppl react to this movie it's always astonishing what the black ppl pick up on almost immediately versus what the white folks fail to pick up on until later in the film. You'll notice so much more upon repeat viewing. Another movie you might like similar to this is The Skeleton Key... if you haven't seen it already

Deer are also called "Bucks" as in "Black Bucks" like black men are sometimes called. Allison Williams is so good after she turns. Even eating the colored cereal separately from the white milk, effectively keeping her food segregated. This is a perfectly made film with symbolism throughout. I highly recommend you see the alternate ending where the actual police arrive. I like this ending better, but I think they may have actually won the Oscar is they'd finished with that unpleasant an ending. The Oscars love pain after all.

I'm not sure if this would be up your alley, but in my opinion, one of Bradley Whitford's best performances is as Commander Lawrence on The Handmaid's Tale (Hulu). I highly highly recommend that show. (I can't speak for S5 because I haven't watched it yet, but everything up to that point has been groundbreaking and full of award-winning performances.)

Does anyone think that the reason she didn't want the cop to have Chris' ID is because it would be on record that they were together before he went missing? (If they'd gotten away with it of course) and she wasn't being protective of him, but her family.

Was thinking about Rod saving Chris and thinking that even if it was the police he could have got out of it no pun intended if he had a good lawyer because there is evidence on video of what the family was doing, rose's pictures with missing victims, the dead man in the operation room the father and brother wearing surgical outfits not to mention, rod going to the police to warn them, as well as the fact rose didn't die by Chris's hands, all are undeniable proof of his innocence. what I was actually worried about wasn't him going to prison as much as his PTSD of the look and sound of spoon turning in tea cups, probably tea all together, he's definitely buying alot of plastic cups and spoons after this I know that much lol!

I have an obscure theory about the character georgina towards the end of the film, I find it bizarre that she would leap onto the car in such a way. And the moments after the other man ha sa moment to control himself. I wonder if georgina tried to end herself but when she came to in the car the grandma was under control or something? I feel like there is alot of nuance in this film.

Rose is involvement actually is a twofold representation.. First we have multiple stories in America throughout our fairly Short history of black men meeting incredibly violent and due to the word and ultimately we've determined lies of an attractive white woman. And it till would be an excellent example of this. So Rose ultimately being the mechanism by which he was hooked and brought and speaks to that. Secondarily in this screen is applicable to everyone however the fact that Rose is involvement is a shock to you is actually speaking to bias that we have us as a society that we're not necessarily aware of. A white attractive younger woman is almost always going to be judged with farmer compassion and empathy if not outright insistence of Innocence especially when going against a black male, in terms of accusations. And this spreads far beyond the race if you look at virtually any criminal accusation of a female sex offender. Just look at virtually any instance of a white female teacher molesting a male student and you will find that no matter how intense the evidence even if they're found guilty the sentencing will be extraordinarily light as opposed to a male being in that position. As a society we just automatically assume that because they are Caucasian and attractive there's no way that there could be anything so wrong with them that they would molest somewhere in or harm let alone kill them. So the fact that you were so surprised that Rose was in on it really speaks to that and it's not even a racism thing it's just a way our society reacts in general to these scenarios. It's part of the reason why whenever you wait woman is accused of an egregious crime when they show up to court they almost always dress in a very prim and proper way with minimum makeup and will pitch their tone in a higher sweeter pitch that they actually have because once again that pushes The narrative of innocent and kindness to a jury and judge. It doesn't always work but there's a fair amount of times that it does.
