It's part of being a healthy, well adjusted human. Lacking such a thing, such as when all you can do is break people down by superficial visual similarities for instance, is actually the biggest warning sign of a psychopath. No, seriously.

As a proper geek "girl" (I'm a bit elderly to be called a girl these days but, hey ho) can I just say that not all women are like this. I fell in love with Middle Earth 50 years ago, have devoured as much fantasy and scifi as I could get my paws on since then and, although I wasn't that fond of Star Trek or Star Wars, I adored Babylon 5 and Farscape. I played AD&D every weekend for years and am a complete nerd when it comes to the lore of ALL these things. If you're not going to respect the lore then get the hell out of my sandpit. These so called "fans" of Tolkein's works make me absolutely murderous. I still think he is a blue wizard, and so is the ‘evil’ wizard. Tolkien claimed at one point the blue wizards ‘started magic cults’. In some official art one of them has a curved staff like the stranger. Both wizards are in the east and in some versions as early as the 2nd age. All the hints at it being Gandalf are obvious ham-fisted attempts to misdirect and are so obvious. Or… I could be giving them far, far too much credit.

These people legitimately don't understand that this isn't just "Some show". This isn't "some story" that the showrunners decided they wanted to create. This doesn't exist in a vacuum. This is a show that is attached to one of the most beloved and influential IPs that has ever existed in Western Culture. People are increasingly tired of Hollywood taking massive dumps on things that mean something to them and hold timeless messages of hope, determination, self-sacrifice, bravery, and loyalty only to then being called "toxic" for defending these timeless stories they love against the "modern retellings" of a bunch of Progressive, Out-Of-Touch, Hollywood Elitists that only want to use it to push their own allegorical, political agendas as if it's something the original author would agree with if he was alive today and you, therefore, MUST believe and support in order to be a "real" fan. If this was some random story that the showrunners created on their own, then fine... No one would watch and no one would care... But this is Lord of the Rings. This is TOLKIEN!! If you're going to accept the responsibility (yes, responsibility) of adapting his work then you better not miss. And if you do, people will call you on it. And they have every right to. This means something to them. This existed long before you and will exist long after you. You are standing on the shoulders of a giant when you choose to make a story about Middle Earth. You don't get to wear it as a fashion piece and then complain when people don't like what you did because they don't believe you paid proper respect to the source material. Either learn this lesson or continue to lose money and lose influence.

Male feminists USUALLY have a rage issue (especially with women who don't fall into line with how they think women should be, especially when they have done all the effort of being "informed"). That's because they deceive women by being so-called "sensitive" to "women's issues", and get frustrated when their deception do not go according to their plans. In other words, they'll be EXTREMELY nice to women, as long as there is something in it for them.

I first read LotR when I was 10. I still vividly recall the Moria scene of Gandalf reading Ori's diary and being *devastated* that my beloved Ori died so horrifically... I still remember feeling intense horror at the "doom-doom" drums in the deep, we are trapped, we cannot get out....... It was Tolkien who wrote those words that so deeply affected my little 10 yr old heart.... I am now a 40 yr old woman, and I adamantly refused to watch RoP, nothing the screenwriters create can come anywhere close to the mastercraft of Tolkien.

If they just act ignorant of our reasons for disliking it, I'll give it to them. If they disrespect us for disliking it, I will call them a r374rd (because they have to be). But if someone just says, "I like it," and leaves it at that, I'll leave them alone as long as they don't mind me saying, "I don't." What I hate most about Rings of Power is that they've turned it into a stupid soap opera instead of what it was originally: an epic adventure and fable. Also, they've screwed around with the canon and are depicting the characters in a way that doesn't adhere to Tolkien's original vision. People don't look the way that they're supposed to. People don't behave the way that they're supposed to. Peter Jackson might have hacked off big pieces of the story and tacked on little pieces that seemed like filler, but all in all it was a pretty good job, considering time and budget limitations. ROP spent massive amounts to pretty much ruin the story for any real fan of J.R.R Tolkien. And now they wonder why we don't watch the show and think that they're idiots. Sheesh lady! Buy a clue.

There is a way the 'sword and bow' thing could have been done well. And even fairly faithfully. Galadriel's role on some of these events is not always clear because the Silmarilion tends to describe events in very broad strokes. We know in her younger days that she was not only pretty and smart but also athletic. And we know also that she declined to go across the sea because she wanted to be a leader. On those terms, we can let her have her sword and bow for the very admirable reason that 'she will not tell others to take risks that she will not'... the kind of thing that other soldiers would look up to. We could see her trying to carve out her own way and solve problems. What we CANNOT see is her being combative WITH OTHER ELVES. Having her be the opposite of diplomatic, constantly arrogant and bickering with every other ruler she meets is NOT what a leader does. It's what a spoiled brat does. We CANNOT see her showing off. She CANNOT be insensitive to death and the price of war. Her whole quest to purge the world of orcs is completely twisted. Pretty much NOTHING she does in Amazon's show is in-character for her.

Yeah, I have to say that Galadriel on this show is one of the biggest downgrades I've ever seen for a character, period (she's not a "young lady" when this show takes place, she's already wise and powerful queen). And they did it in the name of female empowerment? Really? That's the irony of all this. In their pursuit of female empowerment, all they do is denigrate women. I have to wonder if it's on purpose at this point. Surely, people can't be this incompetent.

I honestly could not give two sheets about black elves or dwarves. Don’t care. All Amazon would have to say is “we had casting calls, these WERE THE BEST ones to audition. So we went with it.” Instead, they say “We wanted to be inclusive and ensure proper diversity.” It is a dis service to the actors that they required tone over ability and then gave them absolute crap characterization.
@sigmacademy
@sigmacademy 14 күн бұрын
The thing, though, is these actors were SPECIFICALLY chosen for who they were as real people, and I would suspect, quite possibly for their political affiliation. There isn't even an argument to be made that "they were just the best people." Also, ironically enough, the showrunners could have had their "diversity" angle AND have made it work - considering the fact that they don't have any rights to any of the more well-known Tolkien stories, they could SIMPLY have told stories set in the OTHER areas of Middle-Earth that featured other nations. That would, however, have required them to KNOW THAT, and having the ability and creativity to write something that would easily and seamlessly fit into Tolkien's world, which has been up to now, been TOTALLY beyond their capabilities. LITERALLY EVERYTHING about the two showrunners showed that they had no IDEA of what needed to be done, and the First Season was simply a reflection of that. The showrunners and writers were just TERRIBLE at adapting Tolkien's world. That's TOTALLY separate from the fact that they were ALWAYS going to turn it into a political platform, and the predictable attacks on the fans they KNEW they were going to piss off doing what they did.

First, why all this hate about the patriarchy? Did these women have dead beat divorced dads? Were their fathers just mean or neglectful? I know about the southern patriarchy, and my Dad approved of me, my goals, and my struggle to achieve them. BUT, there was no hate. Just the struggle we all go through for our place in the sun. You can not make it all about men if you are not one. Everyone is not a lesbian and some women actually love men and have children with them. The struggle is for your place in a safe, sane world, NOT about "Haters" in a make-believe fantasy world. In the cinematic world, the struggle is about well crafted storytelling for a PROFIT. Get REAL.

I hate that movie with such a passion I get physically sick to my stomach every time I remember that it exists! Yup, happening right now.

Yeah, it’s funny how they always claim how open and inclusive they are..Then display how not open and inclusive and down right toxic they actually are themselves…

Today I looked up ROP hashtag on Twitter. Average tweet about this show had like 15 likes. Bridgerton, for example, that ended months ago, average tweet has hundreds to thousands like. So...

You can like whatever you want, but if ENOUGH people don't like it, it won't get the funding to stay on the air. That's nothing wrong with us, that's just reality.

The same kind of stupid people that always looked down upon nerds are now posing as nerds because they want to look cool. Nothing has changed regarding their snobbery and lack of knowing/understanding the topic.

One of the underlying themes running through all of Tolkien's work is fellowship- people coming together to fight a greater evil. Guyladrial alone is in direct conflict to that, not to mention the bulk of the rest of the characters in Rings of Power. Her not understanding that shows she doesn't know anything about Tolkien.
