@@gmcbajabc main reason to use this Z thing that its provide you easy and consistent zooming with a flick of a button instead twisting your wrist. This stuff is usefull only for video shoots.

200-500 is a dream lens. I used often a rental 200-400, but image quality was not quite good as expected from an L lens. Hopefully the extender is build in in an expected price of 16k but also buyable separately. Btw. a 70-200 2.0 as a replacement for the 200 2.0 is on my wishlist😇 but the Z version might come first

It is so frustrating that they keep the rollout so slow. And seeing the recent 35mm L, I have lost faith that we’ll even see wide primes in the same league as the 50, 85 or 135…I will eventually adapt Sigma Art

canon users get thier lenses from the rental stores (exept top 5% of canon users), everyone else get thier lenses from the actual stores. Good job canon. Closed autofocus rf mount. And dji who owned hasselblad is about to drop thier new mirorless camera. And ofcourse they smart enough do not use closed and restricted mounts.

The teleconverter sounds like a potential gamechanger provided it fixes the stupid oversight on the 100-500. It must allow use of the entire focal length otherwise it will be as impractical as the current

20mm 1.2 would be cool, but most 1.2's suck compared to 1.4's with regards to image quality. Sigma already make a stella quality 20 1.4 if you're not locked into rf.

Thanks. I've been feeling it a lot lately. A prime will always be sharper, but having the option of changing focal range is very helpful in some scenarios. What about the 400mm? If that zoom teleconverter comes out, it could give you much of the range.

Considering the size of the OG RF 70-200 it will always be a good to have lens. Now sporting events like NFL, NBA, MLB and even D1 College venues allow lenses lenses up to “8 inches” inside personally I’ve tested this and walked in, camera out and no problems at all.

I don't think having the current 70-200 and two colors of the 70-200Z would be overkill. They are really just two lenses. The two Z lenses are the same lens, just different colors. The original RF 70-200 offers the massive advantage of not being massive. MUCH lighter and MUCH smaller in the bag. I'm a heavy user of the RF 70-200 but I'm not tempted by the RF 70-200 Z. Lightness and portability are virtues the Z lenses won't offer.

Spot on Bill ! The only disadvantage of the current RF 70-200 is that unlike it's EF ancestors it doesn't take extenders. Just maybe the new multi-extender would fit, in which case it would also bypass the design-flaw of the 100-500 ..

I’m probably in the minority of those who can’t afford the highest end cameras, who has just shifted back from Nikon to Canon. After considering the 24mp FF Nikons, i opted for the Canon R6ii in part because of the telephoto zooms from Canon i could pair with it. So while we can be impressed with some of the lenses Nikon is now offering, there are gaps in its offerings. And, who wants to pay for a Z6iii that has had its dynamic range reduced to achieve fast shooting specs that a buyer doesn’t value? Hope you find some improvement with your back. I also suffer (30years+) with low back pains…it is one of the hardest issues for the medical community to help with.

I've lost my interest for Canon lenses (for wildlife purposes) Nikon are killing it for wildlife, the light weight pf especially. They certainly did a great job with the Z9/8 as well. Canon need to get faster lenses I don't like their F7.1, F9 and the F11. Fitting a zoom teleconverter on any of those won't be good. I like the idea of the 200-500mm F4 I just hope it's not a heavy weight like their 200-400mmF4. That was a great lens however. Why don't they develop something along the lines of the Canon EF 400mm f/4 DO IS II USM. That was excellent DO is similar to Nikons pf. I'm not so keen on zooms and risk of loss of IQ. Next grip is their pricing. I'm also still hoping we will see a R7II go stacked or they add another crop version but Pro features. It's only a matter of time Nikon bring out their D500 mirrorless Pro crop equivalent.

Just FYI the new zooms (e.g. RF 100-300 mm f2.8 and RF 24-105 mm f2.8) have excellent image quality even with 1.4x 2.0x TCs added to the RF 100-300 mm f2.8. For a wildlife photography having access to super telephoto zooms such as the RF 100-300 f2.8 and upcoming RF 200-500 mm f4 is a huge advantage. If one adds a 1.4x TC to a RF 200-500 mm f4 you end up with a 280-700 mm f5.6 lens which is ideal for the majority of wildlife photography.

So you don't like f7.1, but a third of a stop less at f6.3 is perfectly fine? I understand the desire for fast glass, however, typically fast glass and low weight are mutually exclusive. Yes, DO or PF optics help with lower weight, but they can only do so much and have some (minor?) drawbacks compared with traditional optics.

Have you tried the 200800? Despite the f9 it's honestly super sharp and extremely versatile. It's the only wildlife lens I need.

@@GP996_LB I did try the RF 200-800 mm lens and it was one I really wanted to like. Unfortunately, I had some issues with my copy on the Canon R3. There were issue with it consistently focusing on static well lit subjects. I also found it soft from 600-800 mm where I needed it most. Lastly, I also found the throw on the external zoom very long compared with other lenses. Frankly, I really wished Canon would have made a 300-700 mm f5.6-f8 internal zoom lens as an alternative.

@@JohnTaraszka The reason RF 100-300mm f2.8 is good with teleconverters is because it's an F2.8 lens but teles are useless for their other new zooms. I already have the EF 300mm F2.8LIS and yes they work excellent with converters. I get 420mmF4 or 600mm F5.6 but you can pick them up for less than £2000 mint... their 100-300mm f2.8 sells for £11,499.00 in the UK. Have a check on the prices of the Nikon tele range.

Canon seems to be ONLY interested in sports high end customers. Where are the rest of the f1.4L primes? Where are the mid-market zooms to add to the RF 70-200mm f4L, RF 14-35mm f4L? Canon are “obsessed” with Pros but not the prosumer photographers. Sorry but you’re not questioning this gap in the middle market.
