Well, I have to address these comments at this point. Season 4 was a hell of a season, best by far as claimed by Cillian himself a month before it came out. So, the question is what could BBC have done to make the new Season beat the last? Well, based on what the plot and the story is... they couldn't have done anything, except for one thing, make Season 5 different. And they nailed it, what a brilliant solution! Season 5 was unlike any Season before, instead of having every problem and question come running down on the last episode for a massive climax, they made that but also prepared the last episode as the start of another problem. In other words, that climax, that huge adrenaline spike was merely the start of the new Season. Imagine what Season 6 would be like now! Had people noticed and appreciated that... you wouldn't be holding this as your opinion right now.

For me season 1 and 2 were the GREATEST of all, arguably best TV series in recent years. One of the major reasons why season 1 and 2 were the best was because of inspector Campbell. Sam Neil and Cillian had a great chemistry and Sam Neil is one hell of an actor. Also season 1 and 2 Tommy wasn't as wealthy and powerful so had to take more risks, he still had a lot to prove and had more competition in the business. Season 3 and especially 4, the writers turned Tommy into an invincible, all around too perfect character. People loved season 1 and 2 because a lot of us could relate to Tommy in some ways. Can't say the same about season 3 and 4.

Couldn't agree with you less about Tommy in S3; that season put him through the meat grinder more than any other. He lost his wife, was driven to the brink of insanity before Arthur saved his soul by killing Vicente, was horrifically beaten to the point that you actually _heard his skull crack_ and VERY nearly lost his baby son too at the end of it all. Sure, he still survived it all, but I definitely wouldn't say S3 turned him into a "perfect character" considering it took him to such a dark place.

@@Scrummy64 Yes season 3 had spectacular moments and put Tommy through some extreme tests as a man, father, a husband, and a leader. But for me season 1 and 2 hold a very special place because of the plot being simple, clean, charming, yet deep in many ways that never seen in a TV series. I didn't find the priest in season 3 and Adrien Brody in season 4 as much versatile, naturally charismatic and wicked as Sam Neil's character (inspector) in season 1 and 2. I haven't watched season 5 yet, and that's because I was so disappointed of season 4, especially the ending where Tommy becomes a MP. Too much fantasy
