There’s not a big Jewish population where I’m from so I don’t have much exposure so please forgive me if this is an ignorant question - is it encouraged for women to work and for the husbands to do half of the housework/childrearing? Or is it like Christian’s where many women now work but they’re still expected to do everything in the home?
@moonmistmm7 ай бұрын
In some populations of ultra-orthodox (mostly in Israel I think), the men are encouraged to spend most of their time doing religious studies and receive a stipend from the government. So in the most extreme version of this, wives work full time, do the majority of the housework and have large families. I think most orthodox encourage the women to work and go to college. However, the really strict sects like in NYC sometimes don’t even fully educate either gender in English. So most money is earned through family owned businesses. I do personally observe relatively strict gender rules, as that’s part of Judaism. There’s a difference between orthodox and ultra orthodox and I get the impression that she’s just orthodox.

Shabbos is our day of rest , Friday night and Saturday day we abstain from doing any work or work related things, and we spend the day with family and eat three meals. This day of rest correlates to the day G-d rested after six days of creating the world. Shabbos is a super special time to bond with G-d and your family and it always feels incredibly peaceful come shabbos , and you just push away all the weekday stresses and focus on the day.
@michelleheadley29117 ай бұрын
It’s a holy day. Like Sunday you go to church. Shabbat is Friday at sundown to about sundown Saturday. Go to temple. Refrain from work. Say blessings over meals. Remember bible stories and the meanings. Etc. Some sects are kosher and will have a separate fridge for that. It’s a holy day. Whereas some Christians might work on Sunday or make food etc. shabbat is a day of rest. It’s the 7th day and holiest of the week.
