@jonathanmelia6 жыл бұрын
My concern is that by making students think too much “What do they want?”, we are actually confining and constricting their responses as readers. Too many pupils feel there is a “shopping list” of things they have to do to get marks. In my experience, pupils do better when they are encouraged to respond and think about a text as a text, rather than purely in terms of answering exam questions. It means that when they enter the exam room, they’re fearless.
@MrSallesTeachesEnglish6 жыл бұрын
Yes, I agree with you when it comes to literature. But sadly there really is a shopping list in most of the English language exam questions. It is very badly designed as a test of a student's ability in to think and write about texts. It is slightly better with writing.

It is the style of writing which matters. I don't know yet how many paragraphs the examiners wanted. My advice is, keep writing for the full 12 minutes.

Mr Salles, could we use this method in question 4 paper 1? Thank you for your videos, they're really helpful 😊

You're welcome, and yes.

My teachers said this was completely wrong and you need to write WHY the writer chose the term and the writers intention and effect , etc. I gave them this answer they said it was 2 marks band 1

The marks scheme says otherwise though...

How many embedded paragraphs should you write to get full Marks?
@ShortsSprint4045 жыл бұрын
Mr Salles, I’m so confused right now. What are you actually changing? Are you using the embedded quotes to replace the point part of PEE? And also if it was ok for you to do, would you be able to make a acronym for this structure? Thank you in advance!
@MrSallesTeachesEnglish5 жыл бұрын
Think of the structure as writing in PEE sentences, but not worrying about where the P goes.

I absolutely can't stand the awful formulaic per, petel, peatesl, aaaaarrrrgggghhhh. This is purr ahem bollocks. Write a lot about a little exactly. I get my students to write a whole paragraph about one word just to exercise their brain...

Well, I recieved a 9 and I used PEE with a tad of Context and a decent link I believe, can't quite remember

Intimidating Biscuit Damn, I thought you were going to say you bought my guide! Well done.

Mr Salles Haha, thanks! I left some advice on one of MrBruffs guide, it was along the lines of revising lots of practice questions and developing some kind of technique based on PEE, of course yours will work for some people. Point, Evidence (by embedding a quote in a complex sentence perhaps) going straight into Explanation, Context (if there is any, this embeds it and makes it fluent), Language (maybe a bit of in-depth analysis that makes your explanation deeper) and then a Link for the next paragraph. PEECLL it seems. It might work, I always kind of adapt it where it fits in my essay as such.
