Not many teacher's teach exam skills, in Psychology we do get told that to evaluate it's looking at the strengths and weaknesses (Of a psychological study) But she was an A-Level teacher we are her first GCSE class, so she does teach at a relatively high level and has high standards, thank you Mr Salles, because students know the spec, but don't know HOW to apply it in the exam, something most teachers don't teach, thank you for sharing this with us!

Yes, that is interesting. Should I release them on a daily basis, or on the same day each week. I am toying with the idea of having a different series for each day - say language paper 1 on Monday, Paper 2 on Tuesday, Shakespeare Wednesday, Poetry Thursday and so on. What do you think?

@@MrSallesTeachesEnglish That seems pretty good. I'd very much like to hear about language paper 2 in more detail, I'm in year 11 and my teachers haven't touched on it yet. Doing that many that often would be awesome, but don't overwhelm yourself, we've got plenty of time.

Is this good enough? For english language paper 1 question 2 use :point, evidence, explanation, zoom, link ,get straight into the answer by plotting the point and what the what it infers using embedded quotes and then say what the technique used was and explain in detail, zoom in on a phrase in the quote and explain the point, when you have enough detail in the explanation, after do zoom on a specific word and what is suggests (dont generalise)then link it back to the question. Do this 2-3 times.

Hi Mr Salles, This is my attempt at trying to achieve a level 4 at Q2. after watching all your videos on Q2 and reading the relevant section from your book. I'd be really grateful if you could take a look at it for me. English Language paper 1 November 2017 Question 2 It's her first time in the Pyrenees, although she feels very much at home. She's been told that in winter the jagged peaks of the mountains are covered with snow. In the spring delicate flowers of pink and mauve and white peep out of their hiding places in the great expanses of rock. In early summer, the pastures are green and speckled with yellow buttercups. But now, the sun has flattened the land into submission, turning the greens to brown. It is a beautiful place, she thinks, yet somehow an inhospitable one. It's a place of secrets, one that has seen too much and concealed too much to be at peace with itself. How does the writer use language to describe the mountain area? Mosse contrasts the seasonal landscape in terms of colour changes through the eyes of the protagonist. Peaks covered with” snow” in the winter, “pink and mauve and white” flowers in the spring, “green” pastures “speckled with yellow” in early summer and now a “brown” land. The imagery created by the description not only instils in the reader a desire to live in such a beautiful place where the scenery is naturally changing through the year, but also a sense of regret that due to our social reality reading about the Pyrenees is as close as we’ll ever get to sense perceiving this place and perhaps the protagonist shares our feelings as she feels “at home” here. Mosse adds veiled hints of danger to the description as she personifies the place as “inhospitable” which suggest that the place is unwelcoming to people and implying it might be a difficult place to live and work with rough terrain, but may also infer a remote place far from amenities and services so resulting in a feeling of isolation. The hint of danger is weaved into the language of the paragraph with the verbs “jagged” describing mountain peaks and “peep” describing the manner in which the flowers emerge as if they are coming out cautiously, making sure it is safe; the abstract noun “submission” conveys an overwhelming sun forcing the land by brute strength to submit to its power - the overall effect suggests a hostile environment where there is a possibility of danger but Mosse leaves us suspecting this as there is no explicit mention of danger. Furthermore the protagonist thinks that the place is one of “secrets” conveying not only a sense of mystery to the place but also that there are many things to discover about this place which are not immediately apparent and this intrigues us and we imagine that perhaps many of the secrets lay “concealed” beneath the surface of the mountain.

PETAL Make a point, for example : The writer makes us feel sorry for ted Give your evidence : use a quote that has a technique Point out the technique , for example : the writer uses a hyperbole Analyse how this helps your point : this helps us realize how big this is for ted and lets us relate to him. Link it to the question: this makes us feel sympathetic My anaylse section is the effect on the reader. You can literally just say , 'This makes us feel xxxxxxxx' 'This lets us relate to the character'

Hi Sir, for the Mr Fisher Q2 i have attempted it below, if possible can you give me some feedback The writer uses contrast to present the unforgettable effects that books have had on Mr fishers imagination as “we dreamt in colour”. This idea of colour and vibrance contrasts the mundane and uneventful tone of “black and white” , presenting the unique experiences and adventures that reading books can take you on. This is shown as “imaginations soared” , personifying imagination presents the extremity of some stories and how in the past , when films were in “black and white” the only way to stimulate your mind is through reading books. Consequently, as Mr Fishers dependence on books has been justified , it causes the reader to become interested as they may not have felt that way about a book before , in the modern age where films are not black and white. However this could cause the reader to become sympathetic to Mr Fisher as he may have depended on books to take him away from the cruel unforgiving reality that he may have had as a child. The writer also uses an extensive list of similes to present the wide range of adverse effects that books can have on anyone no matter their interests, this presents how books are universal and how they are an opportunity to be taken on an adventure without even taking a step, the similes describe “ tigers, rockets and gazelles “ .The unusual selection of similes further emphasises the universal effects of books as it can allow a person’s mind to “soar” providing a unique experience that modern technology can never replace. This causes the reader to become doubtful as they question the extent of a books effects , however through the unique use of an extensive list it could present how Mr Fishers life has revolved around books, so his opinion holds some validity. Consequently, this causes the reader to become intrigued into reading more books as they may want to experience these unique effects first-hand just as Mr Fisher has his whole life .
