I never understood why everyone is so intent on removing the Unity logo on their games. I know that it has a bad reputation because free versions couldn't remove it in the past, and that has produced a lot of garbage tied to the logo. Yeah, yeah. But it has that reputation because people don't know all the quality games that are made with Unity...Rimworld, Subnautica, Valheim, The Forest, Escape from Tarkov, Firewatch, Cities: Skylines, Kerbal, Ori, Inside, etc--we could go on and on--because they remove the logo. (I don't know that _all_ of these examples remove the logo, but it seems to be more common to be absent). Unreal games seem happy to leave it...why don't Unity developers reclaim the reputation by leaving the logo on quality games? If you used the engine and made a quality game, why hide it like it's something to be ashamed of?

Its just how unreal has been able to market themselves. I'm sure you understand if I tell you that a new AAA game is made in Unreal Engine 5... you would set expectations of high graphics and realistic physics, etc. But if I tell you same AAA game is made in Unity 6, you won't set lower expectations but neither higher by default. Its a sad reality but that's just the way it is now. AAA Companies using Unity should promote it in my opinion, and this perception about Unity could be changed ❤

This actually comes from people's ignorant perception. They are angry at the Unity engine itself, while they should only be mad at the management for what happened. It's like being angry at a child for no reason, just because their parents have a bad reputation, and you automatically associate that bad thing with the child. The reason why the Unity engine has a bad reputation is that it allows a lot of amateur, less skilled developers to create games with it. In other words, it's a universal engine that makes it easy for anyone to make bad games. This only proves how widespread and accessible Unity is, even for less skilled people. But I don’t believe the engine itself is to blame for the poorly executed games people create with it. Sure, the engine has its flaws, but you can make quality games with it if you know what you’re doing, whether it’s programming or optimization.

@@Pixintendo That's the point. Unreal and Unity has very minor differences now. And in some cases each of one outclasses the other. But still the fact remains that peopl's perception is in place that if something is made with Unreal it will be much higher quality and graphics, than the same product being made in Unity.

I guess it's because we live in a world where perception is everything. People will make a snap judgement about something within the first 5 seconds of looking at you, a page, your opinion and so on. Companies and individuals try and mitigate the best they can. That's the sad fact about the Unity brand when it comes to commercial games. You're absolutely on the money in regards to young developers making games which gave Unity the reputation of low quality. This is why Unity themselves need to push it proudly and change this notion.

Here are few good reasons not to display a Unity or other engine logo splash screen. The first reason - it isn't professional and is against marketing principles. Do you remember any big professional studio to put the engine splash screen on their games? They put their studio logo and brand web site and copyrights information instead. And that's the reason why Epic put unreal logo in their games - they advertise their engine, they don't redirect viewer's attention to another engine/marketplace/site, but to their own. The second reason is waiting. What's the point of making players wait and waste 2 or more seconds for something that doesn't matter to them? They launch the game to play it, not to look at the logo of the engine it was made on. Nowadays the attention span of viewers is very short, 2 seconds or more is too much, especially for mobile games - every time you play to waste 2 seconds just to see what you already know? It's unpleasant, and we developers have to make sure our games are pleasant for our players. Besides, the splash screen is not shown while the game is loading, but is added to it. So, there's no point in bragging to players what programs you used to make the game, unless program makers paid you for it, or you want to express gratitude to the engine, or you want to increase your competition. :)

I've always been confused why ppl would use unity to make their dream game, or even just a great idea for a game, and not want to tell their players the game was made with unity. I'm proud of the effort the coders of unity, since it's birth, have made to help me make any game, or not a game, that I want. I've always been happy to show the logo.

Because a lot of people use Unity to make shovelware garbage. It over shadows the good games

If i have been developing my project under Unity 2022 (vids under channel) is it worth it to switch over to Unity6 for this feature? I know theres others, im just asking about this one.
@SpeedTutorКүн бұрын
That really depends on whether the feature is important to you, as Unity 6 could break far more things in your game than you'd anticipate. If it's really important for you to remove the splash screen, make sure you have a backup and then try and upgrade your project for Unity 6. :) Then you won't lose anything if the worst were to happen. I hope that helps :)
@karole5646Күн бұрын
If you don't care about the unity splash screen, then it not worth.
@mantragames21 сағат бұрын
I switched and no issues. Also depends on what 3rd party assets you’re usin and whether they support it yet. But yeah backup first!

You'd be very surprised what people end up watching, as I said in my pinned comment - Beginners watch tutorials that you'd deem extremely basic but it gets a fair amount of views. I'm trying to cover all of the new Unity 6 features, no matter how basic or simple it seems!

Unity 6 is the first release that allows a personal license holder (Non subscription) to remove the default Unity splash screen. You previously needed a pro license, plus it has some new features for customising the splash screen too!
@karole5646Күн бұрын
Because runtime fee removed, hope them remove the splash for other versions too.
@SpeedTutor12 сағат бұрын
I'm sure they will allow splash screen removal in versions newer than Unity 6 in the future but not for older versions.
