I think the project is awesome. I don't get why to use "wiki" in the name... The name makes think of Wikipedia and the project loses power (it's what I think). Name is important.

Hey! The term "wiki" refers to a type of collaborative website that allows users to create, edit, and organize content collectively. The name "wiki" is derived from the Hawaiian word "wikiwiki," which means "quick" or "fast." Wikis are designed to be easy to use, enabling multiple users to contribute to and modify content directly through their web browsers without needing specialized knowledge of web development. Colloquially, the term "wiki" is often used to refer to any online platform or community that emphasizes collaborative content creation and knowledge sharing. It can denote a community-driven space where users collectively contribute, edit, and maintain content. This informal usage captures the essence of wikis as dynamic, user-generated repositories of information. So when we originally thought of our name, many, many years ago, we wanted to use 'wiki' to show our commitment to creating an open space for language documentation, free from paywalls or the necessity of university enrollment. We wanted everyone to know that our documentation work is accessible to everyone without restriction. That all to be said, we have run into the problems that you have said! Many people over the years have assumed that we are a part of the Wikimedia Foundation, which becomes a challenge when fundraising :) luckily that happens less than people realizing we are a separate entity. I personally think this just goes deeper into questions revolving around our branding and marketing: how can we continue to build the 'Wikitongues' brand and identity? How can we continue to strengthen the bond with our community? Sorry for the long response! This is something I think about quite often :) if you have any feedback to this, I'd love to hear it! ~Kristen

@Wikitongues I know what is "wiki". But common people don't. And I think when a brand uses a name, it's necessary take into account this. Of course, it's just my viewpoint, but it's impossible not to relate "wiki" with "Wikipedia". I hope my comment doesn't bother you, because it's just my observation.

At the end of my comment I did ask you if you had any feedback regarding my questions - ie how can we continue to strengthen our brand and separate our name so that people know we are a different entity - , so if something ever comes to mind, I would love to hear it. And my explanation wasn't meant to be patronizing - a lot of people do not know what 'wiki' means and since this is a public platform, I thought the explanation would help anyone reading your comment to know why we chose our name :)
