Graymass, may I ask why you used this form "Unbelievably" - an adverb, not an adjective? I'm on my beginning on my way of learning English and I feel like it should be adjective 😅 I'd be super grateful for an explanation 🙏
@luccaskingo4 ай бұрын
Its so Funny that theses i was studying about the usage of "stumble upon" and you give me a good example of how to use it lol
@graymass31514 ай бұрын
@@Anna-nr3mu I used the adverb in this case simply due to I addressed author's pronunciation and a way in which he's speeking, and how it startled me to see his progress in 4 years. I wrote my whole passage intrinsically, and to be candid, I'm not a big grammar "guru". If simply, we use an adverb, if we wanna emphasise how smth is happening. And an adjective , if we point out some feature of a noun. Thus an adverb relates to a verb, an adjective to a noun. I wish you inspiration to carry on your English studying, but don't care about grammar too much. You'll nail it!

This is so true. In my class i consider myself as the best most fluent in english, but only through preparation and written. During impromptu i struggle alot expressing myself, i had to think very hard and scan my deep vocabulary to find the exact word. Unlike any other people, they can easily think the simpler words and say it, but for me i was used to using the perfect word.

@Jauu-r8r4 ай бұрын
Yeah, i agree. I feel like as an adult learner, we need to study grammar to make our study more efficient. Because if we learning like kids learning language, it’s not like it would not succeed, it just takes more years. But, as the video says, if we focus on grammar, grammar and grammar only, we will also have hardtime to speak it out, so grammar takes 1%, the rest is practice by focusing to catch and deliver the messages.
@user-wg8of3rf6s4 ай бұрын
@@Jauu-r8rHi, well, you know, recently i carried out some research to know if there is any difference between learning a language as an adult and as a kid and i found out this: imagine a newborn kid and an adult human, what makes them different? the answer is the adult tries to see the world in such a way that every thing must makes sense to him otherwise his brain cannot accept it, but the case is not the same for the kid, the kid's memory is empty he doesn't need reason because he has no intellect yet, and if the adult wants to learn language he should learn grammar so that the language makes sense to him, because he need reason, but the kid doesn't need reason so he can learn a language without studying grammar.
@Jauu-r8r4 ай бұрын
@@user-wg8of3rf6s Interesting, thk you for the additional insights. Indeed, I feel like if I take a look at myself back then, when I was a kid, and now, there really are major differences in the advantages and disadvantages between these two types of learners. Like our environment (kids tend to have a better environment that supports them in practicing the language they use), and also conditions and traits, like wht you mentioned, where adults tend to be more scared and shy about making mistakes because if we sound like we don’t make sense, we’re ‘scared’ of being judged as stupid or incompetent and much more.

Same here. Learning English grammar is necessary if you are to achieve academic goals. If you also need everyday interaction with English speakers, then the subconscious learning of the normal spoken language is also necessary. Both perspectives (grammar learning and subconscious) are needed to round up your "English life".

I did french in school and after four years, I'm still at beginner level. I was soo interested in French when I joined school but soon enough it became a chore. Cramming grammar rules to pass the exams. Being forced to watch and translate boring documentaries, to which i'd use google to translate. I passed and can tell you how to conjugate words but I can't have a decent conversation in french. By the time I completed school, I had no passion for french. I've recently been watching aesthetic french videos and I felt the passion come back. I definitely will imply this technique. Will be back in a year's time just to see how much progress i made.

Hello, I know this comment is a bit old, but I wanted to ask you about those people who say that reading is not a good way to learn English because they believe when we’re reading by ourselves nobody is going to correct our mistakes when we mispronounce an English word wrongly. They think the best way is to read audiobooks, so you will be able to listen to them and how they pronounce every single word. I like to read regular books but sometimes I don’t know how exactly to pronounce some new words and I feel a bit stuck and then just forget about that word and keep reading.🤷🏼♀️
