I built a removable corner shelf that sits on the deck railing for a portable bbq. That way, the bbq doesn't take up too much space. woodgears.ca/deck/bbq_shelf.html

It's a simple project, but somehow VERY exciting to see you back in the shop, with wood, and with green tools. Loved the mice and Lego, but it's great to see your recovery is continuing. Welcome Back.

I saw a pretty good Woodock product the other day for restoring blackened wood like your deck. It brings the life of the wood out quite well. Granted you have to scrub it down with a brush as well. But it makes for a very good restoration.

It's sad I feel the urge to do this, but I want to thank you for getting straight to the point and keeping the video short.
@Yonatan245 жыл бұрын
@@katelights Of course, as always. I try to keep the videos I make as short as possible. Almost every single one of the videos on my sidebar is >10min long and it's frustrating.

Very practical, I approve! I grew up with a Dad who did similar 'make as you need it' projects, so this was the precise type of videos I was looking for. Of course this sort of shelf can be adapted for both indoor and outdoor projects as needed. Dad made a similar series of corner shelves in both his cellar and garage workshops. He made them both simple and inexpensive by recycling scrap and leftover wood from older projects, thus finding ways of adding temporarily to the storage needed.

Just when i was thinking: "if that BBQ falls off and there is someone underneath it , well, that guy doesn't have to go to the barbershop for a while" , you show how you secured it. well done Matthias!

Nice work! But pay attention with heavy winds at such an exposed corner. My bbq was blown away in a storm. A storm could lift and flip over your whole shelf

Tendinitis is a life long affliction that will need constant management. I wrecked my right forearm chiseling plaster off a brick wall 25 years ago. Any amount of use now and it flairs up again. Sadly there’s nothing you can do, you just have to live with it. Good to see you out again Matthias.

I know expansion/contraction is a non-issue here, but *if* it was, (at min 2:00) wouldn't you have screwed in the screws as close as possible because wood movement x more board width = more movement/force the screws have to resist? Just want to make sure I understand it correctly.
@matthiaswandel5 жыл бұрын
Expansion and contraction is an issue. So is cupping and twisting of the wood, which is why the screws are far apart - to hold it flat.

As an engineer with several kids, I find myself fixing things rather than building them anymore, and overall increasing my knowledge of the trades moreso than my career. Actually thinking about transitioning, because there seems to be a market need for quality and detailed work.
