I’m not a crawler guy but this information is very good and mostly applicable to buggies as well. One thing to note is the servo horn length: you can use a shorter one to increase the final steering torque and improve steering precision. Because the rotating horn projects an even smaller linear movement toward the ends of the throw, you have even more torque and less risk of burning up the servo when the steering knuckles get close to those hard stops. The downside to a shorter servo horn is reduced steering speed. If you were reducing the speed in the transmitter settings already, this is hardly a negative.

I’m happy that some people are seeing the crossover and I hope to expand outside crawlers where applicable. You make some great points. I actually made a SHORT on that topic but not sure that people can find both shorts and fulls equally. Thanks for sharing.

I realy like the way you do your hobby. Do you have a video about crawler suspention geometry?

Thanks fr the compliment and checkout the channel. Yes I have a few suspension videos. Tuning with Shock Angle - Part 2: DETAILED Version kzbin.info/www/bejne/oF6UXoGPqsakiLs

@BoomslangSuss I watched (almost) all your crawler suspention videos. As a mechanical engineer and after a 20 years long downhill addiction, progression, springrate and damping is not where my deficit lies. Together with my son I started a project to design and 3d print a expedition crawler which is capable of climbing the peaks in the german alps. At the moment our blindspot is the linkage geometry of the suspention. Do you know a website where we can educate ourselves?

@@BoomslangSuss :)) hell no!!! 1/10 rc crawler.

A lot of people hate on this claim, but it is correct. When you are crawling slowly, your 4-bar linkage geometry is not super effective in anyway. Things like anti-squat, anti-dive and roll center are dynamic situations. So for the times you are moving fast set your vehicle up for a neutral response on all 3 of these parameters. But more importantly, set you car up for maximum clearance and lowest CG for best crawling performance.

Video idea: how to calculate gear ratios. Differential gear specs list the teeth count, portal gears specs list a ratio and or teeth count, and transmission specs give you a percentage of overdrive. I’m trying to normalize everything to a ratio, then calculate what my overdrive will be. But I don’t think the numbers are coming out right.

Excellent suggestion. I’m on it.

What RC crawler company is best at steering geometry?
@BoomslangSuss6 ай бұрын
Most RTR's out of the box have the steering figured out nicely. It starts to get weird when you have an aftermarket axle from one company, a servo mount from a different company, then a servo arm from a 3rd company. That's when you need to be aware an apply what's in the video.
