Believe it or not, my Chrysler C-body tank has 1968 Mustang MC and Kelsey disc setup, 1" bore. Stops way better than MaMopar's original drum setup. 👍

My 68 Lincoln Continental Calls for a 1 inch bore with power brakes.Heavy car I guess.I believe the smaller bore creates more pressure.

I love your videos. I put frnt disc brakes/dual bowl on my 64 hardtop about 3 years ago. When I did that I did put a proportioning value on. I never thought it stopped great, I thought I had to put to much pressure on the pedal to stop. My alignment guy said I didn't need the value with dual bowl and we took it off. He said the dual bowl has a proportioning valve in it, the brakes now feel great. The brake set up (stainless steal brake products) was installed on a 64 Sprint at sometime. I guess I need to stop hard and see what happens. Keep the videos coming. Wish you were closer to Los Angeles.

MUSTANG STEVE says use a 1" bore master cylinder for power disc brakes? MUSTANG STEVE says larger bore gives you more force? you say the opposite?,

We swapped out the MC with one that came from SSBC and a prop valve. The braking feels soft and feels like the pedal has "too much" travel I feel. Is that because we are using the original single reservoir push rod? Do we need to readjust the prop valve? Or both?

Jeff Great explanation on the master cylinder bore size! I am changing my 66 mustang master cylinder, it works but its tough to push the peddle to stop.

Once again a timely video! I'm sticking with drum brakes for my '66 I6 Mustang but putting in a dual bowl. Any other suggestions in that situation?

Jeff great episode. This is the kind of information people need or I would say I need and enjoy fantastic work. Hope you have a great weekend.

The other difference when you change bore size on the master cylinder is pedal travel. Smaller bore gives more pressure but longer pedal travel than a larger bore and obviously vice versa.

Just had a master cylinder fail couple days ago while on a date. In my 71 Oldsmobile. Leaking out the weep hole and kept dragging the fronts. Luckily I got the misses back home before it gave out completely. Threw it in reverse to leave her driveway and pedal went to the floor 😆 it was an O’Reilly unit. The warranty replacement is made of aluminum. Failed part was iron/steel. Lasted about 4 years and 10k miles. Tons of rust in the brake fluid. Calipers appear to be fine on inspection but swapping them since they are under warranty. The rotors were toast and brake pads were cooked and cracked.

Cool video. What's wrong with the dial type proportioning valve?

As far as I know, nothing.

I had ordered from Mac's a 1960-65 Falcon-Ranchero-Comet Power Brake Booster & Master Cylinder Conversion Kit a few years ago for my 1964 Ranchero. I didn't convert my brakes until late last year so we were way past warranty or return. The bottom line is that just as you said, there is no space to install it. I got in touch with ABS power brakes and they were jumping up and down telling me I had the right one. I forgot what the measurements were but I do remember placing the master cylinder alone allowed me about 1/2 inch clearance so the booster was out of the question. However, they assured me I could just eliminate the booster and use the Master Cylinder. It seemed to go smooth. I used the proportioning valve and I added a three way onto the back line to install my brake switch. So far, I am still among the living.
