Probably the most easy to understand way to clear the hips. Not easy to do and will take many hours of practice but this presentation, with practice, will get you there.

Excellent video ! This has been the most difficult aspect of the game for me. My body insists on rotating around the right leg on the way back and the left going forward. Early extension - every time. I will work with these drills.

Wow. This is one of the best I’ve ever seen and the best way I’ve seen it explained in terms of clearing the hips and using the ground. I’m about to book a flight across the pond, Master Jedi!

It is Gerald, clearing those hips is a vital piece of the golf swing. Get this right and the rest of the golf swing falls into place.

Thank you Jonathan for this drill! This is by far the most useful instructional video I've watched to date. I have been 'golfing' for over 40 years and I have always had a problem getting the proper feel or 'move' required to get to the correct position throughout the swing from address to finish. I'm at #250 of 1800 and feeling more natural and intuitive with each rep! Dale Platten

Thank you Jonathan! Great video series that I enjoy watching. One thing I would like to know about the hip turn is actually if there is a drill that lets you stop turning your hips at impact to bring more speed to the club and then starting to turn the hips again later and make a full swing. Question is if hobby golfers are actually able to learn that or if this is for natural born golfers only. Thank you again and keep up the outstanding work!

I agree with releasing that ball 45 degrees left. That will really encourage the proper full hip rotation, eliminate the wrist flip, and end any deceleration into the ball.

Your comment of breaking the knees works better for me, than thinking of dipping the knees. I don’t think I will be hitting the ball fat, as much. Thanks, Jonathan.

Johnathan, what an awesome video. If people would really practice the drills it would make a world of difference. Patience people. I would love to see you get with Eric Cogorno and Chris Ryan to make a video. Some of the easiest to understand instructors.

Thank you, Jonathan, a great explanation of how the hips should work. These feelings and drills are helping me become a better golfer and more confident that I’m doing the right things. (Interestingly, it’s only since watching you and a couple of other swing gurus that I’ve realised the fundamental importance of the hip turn, as I was a swayer. And none of my teachers in lessons ever pointed this out or told me what to properly. The point you make about the club not overtaking the hands at impact is my next challenge. I try to hold the wrists through impact but it feels like like I’m ‘holding off’ and preventing full rotation. (So at what point should you let the club go?) Any help here would be greatly appreciated.

Johnathan, thanks for the details on the hip movement. It would be great if you could do a similar video but with the driver. I've got it down with most irons but with the driver I can't seem to get to the left foot pressure at the right time. The result is either too much weight too soon and I can't get the left leg to rotate, or I am late getting the foot pressure and I loose my tush line, spinning out. I'm not sure what body awareness I'm missing with the driver. Thanks again, for your patience and detail.

I wish I had known the optimal hip rotations 40 years ago when I started to play golf but in those days I did not meet such an excellent teacher and cellarphones to learn it. After a long interval of 40 years I finally met with the greatest instructor at the age of 69. My swings have become so powerful with his teaching ! Now is the time to start the optimal beautiful and strong swing along with this greatest teacher. I am Japanese . tring to improve it all my life until I go to the heaven of golf. Thank you very very much ,nicest teacher.

Hi Jon...I have an "unusual" question for you. I saw a training aid on TV and wanted to get your comment about it. Think of a broomstick that is the width of the body. At each end is a U-shaped piece of plastic, which you put your arms into. As you can tell this device will keep your arms straight as you go back and down. Does this sound like a good aid to you? Thanks I appreciate your comment. Gerry

Jonathan, great stuff; love the barstool idea and trying to incorporate it but having trouble because trying to also do a drift to the lead side starting at 3 oclock per the many pressure pad recordings of pros (trying for 70% pressure on lead side by completion of backswing). Any advice?
@JonathanTaylor63
@JonathanTaylor63 5 жыл бұрын
They are usually measuring the top of the back-swing as the moment the hands and club change direction. By that time the body should have already changed direction and hence a transfer of pressure to the lead leg has occurred. If you are not careful you will get your weight on your lead leg too early and will not be able to clear your lead hip.
