The function of snow foam is as a pre rinse, to lift the dirt and particles off of the paint and run them down to the bottom, so you wash them off then. If you use a mitt on a pre rinse stage you will drag the dirt around the car and scratch or swirl it. Having that said, I’ll def use your trick with the dilution of foam itself.
@stewills97113 жыл бұрын
The foam in this is too thick, a 5 minute dwell is more than enough to remove loose dirt before rinsing. Then you start the contact wash. He says no swirls, but I can bet you that thing is marked up bad.

Do not do as he explains, it's called a pre-wash for a reason, if you follow his instructions you will just scratch up your paint even more. Apply the foam and wash of with a pressure washer and only after that you can get out your wash mitt and do the contact wash with an auto shampoo.

As a few others have mentioned, the reason to snow foam the car is to lift the dirt off the surface of the car...then it needs to be hosed off. Then you wash your car as normal. If you wash as show in the video all you are doing is rubbing all that dirt and grit back into the paintwork.
@madmeister407 Жыл бұрын
I've had my K2 for well over 10 years and have only had to replace the high pressure hose. Mine has the built in mixing tank and I use Karcher car and bike detergent and it works brilliantly. Just add 3:1 mix and the Karcher does the rest. Simple. Top tip, never run your Karcher before letting the low pressure water run through it before you use it on high pressure. It avoids the pump running dry on start up.

If you don’t want swirl marks you should use the pressure washer to rinse off the foam after you’ve let it soak for a bit, then contact wash wish a shampoo bucket and a rinse bucket. The foam loosens the dirt but it’s still sitting on the car, so contact washing at that stage is just moving around the dirt which will scratch the paint
@DjNikGnashers3 жыл бұрын
I was thinking exactly the same thing. What's the point of snow foaming if you are going to rub all the dirt into the paint lol ! Blast off the worst with the Karcher, snow foam, blast that off, then apply any extra's like fallout remover and/or tar remover, blast that off, and ONLY THEN should you touch wash with a shampoo and the softest lambswool mitt. I worked as a valeter.
@unisoulja62272 жыл бұрын
@@DjNikGnashers Why Lambswool? Clearcoat isn't made of tracing paper lol. Its a lot tougher than the detailing industry try to make out - can't imagine why they'd want to gaslight weekend warriors into paying for overpriced kit. Sigh. Besides, lambswool has been shown to not release dirt very well on numerous scientific tests. Mixed microfibres, (eg; Gtechniq WM2), have been shown to be best under testing, on a number of objective tests, followed by micronoodle
@DjNikGnashers2 жыл бұрын
@@unisoulja6227 Lambswool because it isn't there for 'releasing dirt' mate, 99% of the dirt should already be removed especially any grit or small particles which may scratch clear coat. After pre-wash, and snow foam, there should only be a slight stubburn film of grime left, and the odd insect remains. The lambswool mitt is there so that I can apply a bit of pressure without risking more swirls. I'm not a weekend warrior, stop assuming, I worked as a valeter professionally before I moved into other areas of the motor trade (which I still work in). Years of experience have taught me exactly what to use. Now, if clear coat was really that tough, why does every car have swirls unless it's just come from a 2 stage polish with a DA ? It sounds like you read 'bro' science' bs on the internet and believe everything you read, but don't actually have any real experience matey if I'm being honest. I detail my car every 2-3 weeks, have done for years, and will continue to do so in the same way I have learned through experience, is the correct way.

@@DjNikGnashers It's okay to snow foam, rinse, then snow foam again then go over with a soapy bucket and wash mitt doing straight streaks right?
@glennpearson46992 жыл бұрын
To go one bit further which makes sense. Dont use 1 mitt with a wash and rinse bucket. Simply buy say 8 mitts and section the car up into sections and use a clean mitt for each section. Then you reduce the chance of cross contamination. Makes sense and only cost £14 for 8 mitts.

Eddie Runcorn yep. He didn’t wait for the product to do its job, then should’ve rinsed it off. Then during the next shampoo stage he can use the mitt. If he hasn’t scratched the clear coat or paint then he’s bloody lucky. He may as well use a scourer.

As a car detailer this video made me cringe. Hats off to people trying but please do not do what this man is saying. 1 do not activate snow foam with hot water this is why he stated it lasts for ages and sticks. 2 do not agitate the snow foam With a wash mit. It is designed to remove dirt then be rinses off not scrubbed, this will in fact scratch the paint work with any particles the snow foam has removed. This will create scratch and swirl marks which will then cost a lot to have someone come and correct your paint. 3 always use the 2 bucket method wash and rinse after rinsing the snow foam off. Also do not put polish in a lance with water it was not designed to be mixed. Buy a spray sealant instead. Also another tip always wash your wheels first.

Pressure wash to remove the heavy deposits, snow foam as you describe, rinse, decontaminate with iron remover (wheels first), rinse, contact wash using a coral mit and the 2 bucket method using a stone guard in the clean water bucket, rinse, towel dry (Micro Fibre), spray with waterless finishing product, rinse again,. Boom done takes about 90 mins, but well worth it. This is for a weekly maintenance wash.

This comment section perfectly represents what happens when people watch several detailing videos but don't understand why anything is done the way it is done. They freak out. Anyway, I'm glad I found this video. Very helpful tip, thanks mate.
@Kyle-kc8cw4 жыл бұрын
@Dee Jay The folks who actually know how to do it huh... alright then. Alright so my opinion is invalid straight away without even hearing it. Fantastic. Well I'll share it anyways. I don't really expect you or others to accept it, that's not my job really. Washing cars for me is more of a fun activity than a religiously rigid duty. So anyways here goes. The snow foam have two purposes, one is as you mentioned which is to remove light dust off the vehicle so it doesn't have to be there during contact wash. Second purpose of the snow foam, you may not know (or maybe you do Idk), is to provide extra lubrication for the contact wash which is what was done in the video. Admittedly he should have used more pre-caution as the extra lubrication still doesn't guarantee a safe wash. But hey, I think that's his personal vehicle and thus it's really up to him how he's going to wash it. I personally have a black vehicle and I wash it similar to how he does it (with more care of course). I use the snow foam as an added lubrication with only one mitt and one bucket with a grit guard. It's two years old and has minimal swirls. You would really need to adjust yourself to find them even with a good work light or those "swirl finder" lights. As for your pH concerns. Well I happen to have a test kit (no no I'm not some weird freak. My mom is a chemical engineer and my sis is doing bio-chem so we just happen to have the equipment at home) and a dedicated snow foam soap. Awesome! I went to 2 extremes, about frozen solution and about boiling hot solution. Results: 12.1 degrees Celsius leveled at pH 6.91 96.4 degrees Celsius leveled at pH 7.14 For extra fun I measured this other soap I have which I have been testing out. It's some freakishly dangerous pH12 soap meant for who knows what. Why do I have it? Idk. Anyways. 9.4 degrees Celsius leveled at pH 11.92 94.5 degrees Celsius leveled at 11.96 Whaaaat, it didn't even change. Sooo, are these still not "facts of the matter"? Whether you believe my "invalid opinion" is really none of my concern as I admittedly had fun doing this which I wouldn't have done if it wasn't for you. Thank you I guess. Take care friend.
@jackdominiak4453 жыл бұрын
@@Kyle-kc8cw You have a point as far as the snow prewash is concerned it does lift the dust particles and lubricates the surface, however surely to get rid of the dust particles you would have to rinse it, before applying a wash shampoo with the cannon and then all you need is one bucket & a grit guard, works great, because you already have the soap on the car....would you not agree? Having said that, the hot water to get creamier foam seems like a good idea, I don't understand why the detailing guy is so against it?

For that try Garage Therapy ‘One’ Shampoo ( 20ml in a bucket) and their ‘Two’ Quick Detailer for the finish.

I would always rinse after foaming has been left for the right time to make sure any fine grit etc is removed that the foam has loosened and lifted before rubbing all that grit back into the paint surface with a cloth as it could easily result in scratches otherwise. No... It does not... While this video explains adequately how to set up your bottle, the methods used, particularly on a black car, will scratch and swirl your paint... The correct process isn't complicated but it does take time... If you haven't got said time then perhaps car detailing isn't for you but if that's the case then why by pre-wash products in the first place? Following the method in this video, you might as well drive to the local garage and use there drive-thru swirl machine... 🤷🏻♂️

It is important, how black is mixed, imo. I did have focus in black colour, which was really nice, since it is mixed with metallic, purple particles, which gives extra depth to the black. I find blacks on german brands for ex. little bit dull. Too bad ford quality is shite, was giving me a lot of frustration. Anyway, black is nice, when it is clean, but it does take more attention, and every scratch etc is visible from mile away. About washing (from my view) i find foam little bit on bs side (i try it, but it doesn't really clean much). One could argue, it just for sake just of unsticking dirt off etc, but you get that with common rinsing too (foam could be maybe beneficial on extra dirty car) . What i id find out and i use this method ever since, is to use constant flow of water (i just let flow without washer pump being on) when washing with sponge/mit. This constantly lubricate cleaning surface and taking dirt off. Do this 2 times on whole car (with some quality car shampoo) in shade and i can tell you, you won't be needed any additional drying and cleaning with cloth etc (you can, if you're extra picky). done and done, nice glossy, shiny car.

That foam really is thick haha. I also only use half a bottle for a whole car, find if I put anymore in i tend to just keep going around the same areas. You ought to get some decent wax on that car though. You can see the water used to rinse the foam sticking to the car rather than beading up and running off (look at around 12:47). I nearly died when you mentioned using polish on a regular wash haha. Was thinking to myself "no wonder there's no swirl marks if you polish it every wash". The green stuff is actually just regular shampoo though so no harm haha. If you want some decent sealant that makes the car shine (like what you're trying to achieve with the green bodywork shampoo), I'd say get some PolarSeal from AutoGlym. Use 40ml max then fill the bottle up to like 400ml then spray on the car. Rinse it off almost immediately and it will make water bead like mad and leave a nice glossy finish. A little costly at £17 for 1 litre, but as I say you only use 40ml a time so works out at like 40p a go. Plus you only need to use it once a month or so (any more is considered a waste and can actually ruin the finish because of excess product buildup), so will last for at least a year or two.

Good video. Thanks to this I've now got my snowfoam lance working as intended, and I'm using at lot less product. Thanks.

Having loads of foam doesn’t always equal good cleaning. BH isn’t the thickest foam but has awesome cleaning power.

I'm waiting on delivery, I assumed we should spray the car with water first, as in work we use deena units, which is a foamer, to clean massive bits of kit in the food industry, we are taught to soak everything first then foam it leave it min 20 mins then rinse, anyway my kit comes can't wait to clean my new car, and my driveway, great video BTW 👍👍

Hi mate the problem with wetting the car first the foam doesn’t stick as well and almost drains off straight away.

I am such a mug I have seen all these pressure washer reviews and though it was gonna be a real challenge getting one of the cheaper models but seems to work fine and do the job. Imma just get the cheap one its a pressure washer shouldn't cause to much hassle

Some really good tips there. Would you say the thickness is more to do with the actual lance or the magi foam?

Never wash a car bottom to top with a mit. At the contact stage always work from the roof down. You’re just dragging grit from the bottom of the car to the top itherwise

Great video and I have been doing same. But new Autobrite prewash snowfoam (slightly different look) recommends cold water and a dwell time of 10 mins. Cant see if its exactlt same ingrediants - do u reckon u can still use hot water and same dwell time?

I could and do get even better thickness of foam using the same pressure washer, doesn't matter if it was AB or any other product. I will admit thats some serious cling from Magifoam
