During the whole controversy over Dave Chappelle, I couldn't help but notice that the production cost of a comedy special was "stage rental", and even then the audience paid for tickets, whereas a show like Dear White People needed a budget of millions for all the sets, actors, writers, crew, etc etc, and the one that was basically free to make was the one bringing in the viewers. Yet the creator of Dear White People was able to badmouth the company and Netflix just kowtowed as much as they could to him.

Several layers: 1) The cultural memo. As much as I want to hope it was in relation to Dave Chapelle or Ricky Gervais, I'm still extremely worried it was in response to Cuties. 2) Speaking of, it feels like Netflix entered free fall the moment they even announced Cuties... 3) Mary Poppins was hired to take care of two kids who wanted more attention from their workaholic father and suffragette mother. You know, people who were actually making something of their lives. At no point would I ever conflate Mary Poppins with sex rooms. 4) How to make a sex room: Take a room, add toys, have sex. No, no one else wants to see your sex room, you heathen.

I really have no problem with the fact that they’ve decided to be more inclusive the main issue is when the « inclusivity » impact the overall quality of the show. For example in high school i knew a few people that were gay, but like they weren’t sketchy at all with pink air and an « a super gay » attitude, in your average netflix show everyone is gay, interracial, trans etc. It’s not realistic and as a result the characters tend to be a bad representation and it just tank the quality of the shows, it’s such a shame bc they’ve made such great content, like unabomber, altered carbon etc. But everything got canceled to produce bad shows.

The Netflix problem is really more than just their Wokeness, but their spend on Woke content is a big part of the problem. 1. They lost content due to so many other streaming offerings 2. They started producing woke content 3. They went quantity over quality 4. They don’t fully leverage their marketing arm because they have so many shows/movies launching at once 5. Their release schedule being all at once versus week by week, Matt Pat wrote an entire show around this stuff 6. Not developing merchandise-able franchises, think about how many toys, spin-offs, games, foods, and any other types of intellectual property coming off Disney franchises versus Netflix 7. This is part and parcel to the above, but think about how much of their content is adult oriented and features dark and violent themes. Even their comedies are vulgar with less sort of teenage entry level comedy. And a large over arching theme is they spend too much on shows versus looking for low production cost high value projects.

A metric that they use for show renewal was leaked a while back and it's based on something like how many people have fully watched a show within two weeks. First of all, this is a self-defeating standard because you can't keep up with that volume of content. 2nd, it eliminates the desires of what is potentially a huge portion of their core subscriber base. People have responsibilities and families. Just because they don't binge a show doesn't mean they won't continue to watch it. The shows that are "Successful" are going to be the ones that appeal to jobless people with bizarre ideologies.

All had solid fan bases and got to season 2 but Netflix was obssessed with chasing the mega-hit show which means freeing up budget by cancelling just reasonably popular shows. I definitely think the majority of Netflix's failure comes from the fact that they lost the monopoly on streaming. Like Amazon Prime and HBO Max and Showtime and of course Disney Plus came out just recently and have started taking a lot of content from Netflix's reach. It might have something to do with culture but I don't see that as the primary cause.

Well here’s the thing, wokeness does become the downfall though once you start losing a grip on market share. You’re right though that nobody really leaves because of wokeness alone, but it becomes an unnecessary weak point in your brand once competition starts stepping in and taking your market share. You can be as woke as you want so long as you’re the only place offering your service, and virtually nobody will leave, but once viable competition steps forward, now you can absolutely walk away because of woke ideology because there’s a viable competitor offering the same service or better without the same ham fisted woke messaging. Going woke essentially just causes an unnecessary weak spot in your brand that can be exploited. It’s like building the Death Star and then willing putting an exhaust port in the design that blows the whole thing up if targeted by your competition. It’s better to just build a solid brand and protect against weak points that don’t need to be there.

Some of the others have rewatch stuff, or own properties that have demonstrated an ability to keep interest across decades. If you're a new streaming service, you would have a very taut high quality lineup. Netflix has Stranger Things, which has a very teen emotional palette and its cultural moment has passed. They spent years building using marvel shows that they didn't get to keep. However, there were at least a few shows where the creators had a bit of license to - rather than be entertaining - cross over into thinking they had pedagogic value. Additionally, netflix probably screwed themselves by trying for prestige. I think they used their time as market leader to spend hundreds of millions making a one-off martin scorcese film that can't have driven subscribers. When reality set in, they did have to cancel a few presumably woke shows -(the megan markle thing) and I think they had cancelled a prestige project or two (I think they were doing a show with David Lynch). They're just a mess.

Same reason I got rid of Amazon Prime after I finished Man in the High Castle. I just watched this episode, and heard Brett talking about a lot of people saying HBO-Max was a better alternative, basically, than Netflix. While I agree that Netflix has a serious problem on their hands I disagree on two ideas- 1- that one of the reasons they're going broke is not just being woke, but also the fact that they are trying to start charging people for allowing other people to use the slots that they pay for when they are not in the same household. We pay for those slots and it's none of their business who uses them. They got the money from us for it already. 2- people need to be aware of, is not to forget that HBO-Max is the home of what can best be called Sesame Street LGBTPZIP; because they bought Sesame Street from PBS with the express idea of introducing all of the content from the alphabet crew that PBS had been refusing to incorporate. So, how is HBO any better than Netflix? They might have programs that you like that Netflix doesn't, but they are also fully woke; so, if you are against Netflix for being woke then you should also be against HBO, else be a hypocrite... I have gotten to a point where I am fine with getting rid of Netflix, but my wife and I do like the shows Stranger Things and Cobra Kai, and to this point, that is almost the only thing keeping us paying for that service; much more that they do and we will probably get rid of it. Brett...I did, however, get the $14 monthly subscription to the Daily Wire in order to see "what is a woman" and like that and the wife loved it too, we also likes the new western movie, and when I finally figured out how to get Daily Wire on my TV I had a chance to browse a little more and I am now looking at making that a regular monthly thing instead of just a one-month thing, with all the kids shows that you guys have and good programming, like I started watching the Clarence Thomas special the other night and I need to finish it, you guys have gotten me hooked.

Additionally, not all BDSM involves sex. You don’t have to do anything sexual to partake in BDSM if you don’t want to in fact. The lifestyle is all about the dynamic after all; sex can just be extra icing on the cake. Many movies and shows do this where they take the face of BDSM and stick it onto something very vanilla. That’s exactly what’s going on here. (Note: I’m not saying that being vanilla is bad, just that it’s getting annoying at how often my lifestyle is used in an unfair and inaccurate light in the media) Also, surely I wasn’t the only one to cringe when she said she knows what’s going on behind closed doors. Lady, that just sounds creepy.

I think the woke movement is just a minor blowback as the main impact are the rubbish catalogue and the price hike combined with current incoming recession. Still suck, though.

My wife and I cancelled out Netflix Subscription a few YEARS back, just around/before the "Cuties" controversy... We have never looked back, and with the trajectory of this new agenda, we feel better and better about that decision every day. Stranger Things was good, but it's basically the only real craftsmanship keeping people on Netflix. Seasons 2, 3, 4, (getting progressively worse and more predictable) were all riding of the success of 1. I haven't even seen season 4 (don't care to)... Also, also -- yeah, the whole reason Streaming became a thing is because people liked "I pay - I watch what I want - I don't have to suffer through ads" -- the more that format dissolves, the more Streaming services are gonna become MySpace Accounts *Last, yeah, about parental controls; whether its Google, YT, The internet generally speaking, iphones, tablets, streaming services, yu name it... Searching up illicit things is 20x easier than setting up effective parental controls Accidentally finding illicit things is 10x easier. And bypassing already set up parental controls is 5x easier... I genuinely think this is a part of the 'big media' agenda; honestly..

It is extremely difficult to find anything of quality to watch on these streaming platforms. Literally can only watch sitcoms from the 90s and older in order to avoid the woke BS and have genuinely family friendly entertainment.

It's so sad that Netflix is starting to fail, I genuinely love a lot of their shows like Umbrella Academy, Sweet Tooth, Alice and Borderland, All of Us Are Dead (BEST SHOW EVER!!), Squid Game, Good Morning Call... they have a lot of good shows that aren't political, I truly hope they fix their issues

The last straw for me giving them a chance again was 'Victor' coing out of literally nowhere. They didn't even try to fit a time alteration excuse around it. It was just... there. A clear agenda on netflixes part. On top of that, the characters were clearly as dysfunctional as ever, and I got sick of that in S2. No thanks. I'd rather have a series about the Sparrows.

@@Adanu191 Yeah I didn't like Vanya but I never did so I kind of just ignored her. I will say the main point was that they're dysfunctional and that's what I like about them. I do wish the show would've stayed closer to the comic though. And like I said Netflix has shows that are really good-- probably because they're Asian and can't be too political lmao

@@beefcupcakes5959 I hate that about them. They've had forever to get over their daddy issues for what amounts to a non-existent drill instructor. It's old. Let's see some actual teamwork. I tried, I really did, but I stopped after episode 2 made it clear they're not addressing 'Victor' and everyone fucking off yet again.

Sadly, all Netflix has left is Stranger Things(season 4 is genuinely great so far!) and a handful of charming animated features. Other than that, it’s just lame content and the occasional good comedy special. The reason they are failing is clear.
