Stuart , YOU are the most exciting painter and amusing person on UTUBE. I was literally giggling aloud hysterically during your video when you talked about getting old. Too funny. 😂Truly, I could live on a steady diet of your videos. I’d give up chocolate and maybe even food and water to watch and listen to your videos. It’s becoming quite a healthy addiction. Your mission of imparting your secrets of painting to the world is working. I am painting as often as possible and when I am not I am plotting and planning my next one. You and your heavenly art inspire me and bring me contentment and passion for painting. Stay well and happy and THANK YOU ❤❤❤😊😊😊

Your videos and lessons got me thru the lockdown years ago. I haven’t painted in over a year just because I wasn’t feeling inspired. Recently revisited your videos, and sir you have sparked the inspiration in me to create once again. Thank you so much teacher.

Looking forward I hope to seeing many many more lessons from you in 2023 Stuart Davies. I can see the attraction of the Pyrenees but moving is such a physically and emotionally stressful event especially at this stage of your life. Perhaps you could just organise some classes at a venue in the Pyrenees from time to time without actually moving there. You can create paintings from memory or photos as you normally do without having to be physically there while you paint. One thing I am surprised you haven't done, is open your own art gallery. So much talent in your fingertips waiting to flow through brushes and onto canvass. You could easily stock up a gallery in no time from all these tutorials you do !! ❤❤

☁Hi Stuart, thanks for another great tutorial on how to paint interesting clouds. I'm not quite where you are yet, but I'm getting closer. Your paintings are always so beautiful, it's hard to get to your level when one cannot paint every day due to lack of time. I'm also still reading your book in between and wonder if there is going to be a part two. I'm much quicker reading than painting. - Wishing you a healthy and nice New Year, Stuart.👍💐❤

Love you videos Stuart. It's been your paintings & videos that moved me to try to paint. One question, "Do you add oil to sap green with every painting?" Your paint seems to flow so much better than what I've experienced trying to copy your style. One more thing, I know in another video you mentioned you don't do "suns" in your skies. Could you please try to paint a sky with the sun peeking though? I love how the real sun peeks through a dark cloud cover w/ rays of light streaming through.

Thanks, Terry! I have just painted skies many times - they were used for commercial purposes, For a painting I tend to think a bit of landscape is essential.

I have been painting since college, but now I'm retired, and am seriously digging into oil paint. Love your approach. Wondering how to balance your approach with an approach using thumbnails, notan, and a general plan or design. Wondering if you would address this design approach compared to yours.

To return to the clouds at Devil's Tower. They were not very thick, so over all white with little to no greys. Mostly wispy whites against the blues of the sky. I will look at my painting again.

Hi Stuart, I would like to ask what grit sandpaper you use for the gesso? I used 320 grit and the paint appeared to be moving too easily, where it was difficult to get midtones. I am thinking also maybe the problem was that I was using too much oil. Also I was using transparent paint for the first time (pththalo green and transparent oxide red) so maybe the problem was that as well. But I couldnt get a decent midtone, only lights and darks. Thanks for the teaching and best regards!!
@StuartDavies

One problem... When I place white using pallette knife, I m not able to soften it using large hog bristle brush. When I make strokes my white spreads too much and mixes with other colours loosing contrast. Why? What to do? Should I not mix oil in any of the colours in sky???
