The video turned out well. I really enjoyed my time with you over the two days and got some great insights. I am working on more ideas for my next painting when I get home. Arrived in Paris and have been to see the Musee D’Orsay and taken hundreds of pictures, tomorrow I hit the Louvre for the day.

The contrast between light blue sky and the dark cloud on top is perfect. It came out perfect for a source of light from behind the dark cloud.

Fantastic tutorial, Stuart, possibly your best demonstration of painting a sky. I also love the semi-abstract approach to painting the salad 😍

I really appreciated your comments about what you were thinking were you going to do and how you envisioned the light. I really felt that I was understanding your thought process in this video. I also laughed out loud at a number of your jokes! Thank you so much for these videos! I hope your student has had a profitable time with you.

Very nice, and looking forward to seeing it finished. At 37:32, when you took away a little bit of the blue horizon, I saw a river, way off in the distance...and then you ruined it! lol

Hi Stuart, painting looks amazing. I watch your videos with wonder as a beautiful landscape is revealed before my eyes and in such a relatively short time. I've never painted other than a kid, but youve captured my imagination and I've bought some oil paint to have a go, got to have something to do when I eventually retire😂. Anyway, may I ask what brushes you use? Most of the ones I see for sale are the thin ones, yours look more like decorating brushes, no offence 😊

One thing I’ve wondered about. Is there a way to treat canvas in a way that would make it easier to move the paint around, the way you make it move over a primed and sanded wood board? I don’t mind using wood, but I have several canvases, and wondered if I could put on more gesso layers and sand them, or do you really need the rigidity of the wood to make it work? Great landscape btw, and I like your usual verbiage. I think you should treat your words the way you approach painting; don’t care what other people think.

I squeegee gesso over canvas to fill the grain. It comes out nice. If you leave the grain, it eats more paint, & you really have to scrub to get a nice effect. But thats just me. I always forget..."fill the grains, why struggle" & I end up struggling.

Very nice. Good luck to your student, nothing like seeing it for real. *every time i glaze..it beads up! I've changed everything but the hardware store boiled linseed oil. Its all i could figure is causing it. Amount for price is the only reason ive bought it. But i go through alot.
@StuartDavies
@StuartDavies 10 күн бұрын
Beading could be too much oil, or the surface needs to be degreasd a bit.
@Broody58
@Broody58 10 күн бұрын
@@StuartDavies right. Spirits added i get less beading. I also mixed detergent in the spirits. But getting a nice transparent glaze without stroke marks is tricky. I'll keep trying things until I figure it out. Not glazing works!
