What a coincidence! I ran across this video on walking through the shot just after I accidentally stumbled onto the idea. I was hitting my Swing Caddie and partially lost balance, stepped forward with my trailing right foot, and had no strain on my knee and finished the swing with an effortless follow through. I decided to make the swing deliberately and plan to test it on the range tomorrow. (I have mild neuropathy in my feet, which compromises static balance. My so-called "dynamic balance", I'm told by the therapist, is good.)

Sometimes accidents are a good thing =). If you learn to use the Counterfall and the footwork to drive your core-mass, you will discover a whole new level of effortlessness in your swing.

This is something that i think most golfers should consider, i spend no more than 3 range sessions on this and i have gained 50-60 yards plus effortless swing feel and thoughts, directions will comes naturally when you finish your swing, stop and see where your body is facing and adjust. thank you for the verification, this just worked.

This is also great to use to break the habit of trying to lift the ball up in the air, causing a reverse pivot. By swinging and getting your mass through the ball, it allows the swing to flow naturally. Excellent drill and insights.

I'm back....from a bad accident and am using gravity in my golf again. Great stuff as usual Daniel. It's been a long journey with some detours. I've been going back through my DVD and your old and new videos. I think the up drill is my ticket back to solid striking and I can add this walk through to ensure I'm using all my mass. Have had some fat shots and some hooks since re-starting GG but I think it's more about timing right now....and ball position. Thanks for continuing to post new stuff.

Great to hear you're getting back out there =). If you have been inactive as far as golf is concerned, hitting it fat and hooking your shots, your probably underheaving the start of the takeaway and not finishing the backswing. Try increasing the power and brevity of the heave, to overcome the loss of flexibility to help you getting full depth into the Counterfall and you should have an easier time getting through your shots. Also remember to take a great enough left alignment (ball forwards) so that you can allow you dynamic alignment to move right throughout your swing.

Fantastic drill Daniel! I find this drill gets me "grounded". I can't walk in a direction without my lead foot pulling and my trail foot pushing / from the ground! And my hips, shoulders, arm, hands working together in sequence. We never think about that balanced sequesnce and using the ground. It should be natural. But I have to remind myself in this drill, of the "intention" you state. Not "grounded and stay grounded" instead setting the intention of walking through my shot and using the "ground" forces. Amazingly a result of practicing this drill is thinking about hitting the ball is now the last thing on my mind. It just happens as a result of me walking through the shot.

Daniel, I can't tell how often I turn to this drill to help me move to my left side. I have a tendency to fall back - turning my swing into an all arms weak fade. For this drill, it's easier for me to hit balls that are teed up. I like your idea about moving that ball forward, eliminating my fat shots off the turf.

I think you’ll find that ice hockey players, some hockey players and even some lacrosse players are effectively using this kind of step through approach. I agree with someone else that if you’ve got a bad back and you’re trying to play this game Gravity Golf is helpful and the step through can be additionally useful.

I am going to give it a try. 3 months post knee surgery couldn’t get on left side

Make sure to open up your front foot a little to make it easier on your turn and start with just about 50% distance.

Good concept but he's lunging at the ball after getting his hands up into his back swing. The momentum of the swing begins at the takeaway which (again) starts with the feet.

Unfortunately I lost all my toes, and thought my golf was over. I lost my balance, while swinging. Over time, I discovered that I could maintain my balance while moving, somewhat like a motorcycle is easier to balance while rolling. I believe this swing method may get me back into the game.

Hi Scott, great for you to keep learning how to adapt. Practicing out of a Heel to Heel Drill could greatly accelerate your process. kzbin.info/www/bejne/oF7Qlouao8h0bbs

It might be a bit hazardous walking through on some ranges I know (friendly fire). As a result, I try to combine this step through the ball with a tai sabaki move from Aikido.

You’re right. Those rocks can really hurt! Ultimately, it is about body movement and mass in motion. Ours toward the target, theirs away from a threat. Thanks for the comment!

Ice hockey players must use this move intuitively. Also international hockey players and even lacrosse players.

Light years ahead this stuff. Ever been stuck between clubs? 6 iron not quite enough, so you take an easy 5, you ease up a tad & flush it further than you have ever hit a 5 iron before with no effort? Well that's how gravity golf works I reckon. John

No effort in the downswing is key. The less the arms tighten in the downswing, the easier it is for the core-mass to release through impact and the farther you will hit the ball.

Think he is still with us and is an Hon. Starter at the Masters. Your commentary makes it sound like he's dead. He was one the big 3, Jack, Arnie and him. Won Majors in 4 seperate decades....but you knew that, right?

It was unintentional to insinuate that he had past, he and my father were friends. I had the privilege to meet him once at Augusta about 10 years ago.
