I love these, as long as your dynamics and pick technique are focused they can really get you playing faster. The density and smoothness of the picks makes the typical pick grab from plastic picks a non issue.

Thank you TTK for addressing the humble pick. Many people don't realize how important the pick is, not only for tone, but speed and accuracy as well. Another great pick maker is Brossard Picks. You can order picks maade from many exotic woods like L'Amourette, ebony, and cocobollo, stag horn, bone, abalone, and even mammoth tusk and have them made in any shape of thickness desired. I have one made of solid titanium (cost $10) and now stone. Very cool stuff.

Those are pretty damn slick, I may have to get a couple just because I have all kinds of picks. I also would like to try those with my acoustic.

The tiger eye looking pick @ 7:58 sounds a little less abrasive on the string attack, which sounds awesome! ;-)

I wish that these MIN'D picks came back. Teardrop shaped like Pat Martino used to use. Perfectly polished and shaped. Just slid of all strings without any effort. Didn't flex at all. Best one's I've tried. I've tried these too. Good but not as good as the old MIN'D picks. But since they're not around anymore.

Hi Mat, my dad was John Dougherty. He invented the MIN'D pick. I still have a few. His business partner ran off with the last batch. I think they stole 50,000 picks. Anyway, it is nice to know someone remembers them.

shaun Dougherty Oh hey, that's really great to hear. Ran off with 50.000 picks?! Jeez. They must've turned up somewhere, but I haven't seem to find them in spite of scrutinizing the internet. Of course, they would give themselves away with advertisingthem as MIND picks. The one that I mentioned above, the one that I caress like, is the MIND pick, that don't ever leave my house. When I wanted to get one more, from the Swedish Wholesale agent, I went to them and tried 200 of them (the whole batch they got) blindfolded, and no one felt exactly the same as the one I had. Would pay premium for something like that. I would use my original as a spare.

shaun Dougherty So, sorry to hear all about that. That your dad "was" and that they ran of with 50.000 MIND picks. I even had a local lapidiarist trying to make a copy. Didn't turn out the same, not at all.

shaun Dougherty I have one MIN'D pick that are very special. I tried 200 of them when the wholesale agent stocked them back in the 80's, in a blindfold test. Not one of them came close to this one. My favorite. I bought several anyway. This one I play only at home, and do not bring out ever to any place. You may not believe this, but this is the only material thing in the world, I would really really get upset, if it broke, or something happened to it. It gives me my best flow when shredding or playing jazz solos. It took a while to become fluid with it, but then again, the best pick I own. Today, I have understood that I can't rely on one sole pick only that can't be replaced.

stone picks kick ass. I found a rock while camping and immediately thought it would kick ass as a pick. and oh man, it so does. but I wouldnt use it on stage. its too smooth so its hard to hold onto once youre running around sweating all over the place.

The tone difference to a regular nylon pick is immediately remarkable, it gives a smoother feel to the sound. I feel somehow that these picks would be most useful for the shredding, fusion and jazz genres :/ Then again, if not for something else, I'd definitely buy a cool stone pick necklace from them ;-I

How would it glide? If anything I would think that it would eat more at the string than the plastic. I use Celluloid picks and they are eaten away not the strings.

Are they hard to grip being such a smooth surface? They look like they would be great for players using very heavy strings. I've heard that ZZ Tops guitarist Billy Gibbons uses a Peso? Nice looking picks.

Stone picks are 'da shit' for special kinds of playing. They are slippery and it took me 4-5 YEARS (!) Yes, years, to hone properly. You drop them first, but then you keep them at your fingers, and learn how to brush, carress, and hit hard. If made properly they're the best for metal, and special effects. However, lose them and you'll find it hard to find anything that even resembles the one that you lost. I have one that I never take out on gigs, I play it always above soft carpets in case I'll drop it. I use stone picks a lot, but don't rely on them, due to their inconsistent shapes. I e when I have made one pick a habit, and then lost that one, it takes a while to get a grip of a new one. So to speak.

You should try the unpolished ones. Thanks to the rugged surfade, it gives you the initial attack of a violin bows rosin. It goes a bit "chhhhhhd" first. Gives you that violin tone vibe. Polished ones have this high pitched bird chirp initial attack. Useful in certain circumstances. However, to get rid of that bird chirp, just switch to the neck pickup and it's all gone.

I like a stone pick with a little roughness, polished a bit but not to the point of being shiny... gives you a nice attack with some texture in it. I have an old MIN'D pick but I don't use it much, that PLINK sound is not quite what I like.

I "bought" myself a stone pick, this one was made of ruby quartz the company was called rock hard picks. ANYWAY this pick is REALLY bad because the guy didn't know how to make it right so it basically feels like playing with a quarter because it has really bad friction, so it doesn't glide as well as plastic. I used it on my electric and it was okay for pinch harmonics but that's about it, you can't play as fast and it was just otherwise a terrible experience. on my acoustic it sounded tinny.
