I enjoy ggd products. I’d just recommend that the initial A/B comparison be an even comparison, instead of having the mixed drums play along with the rest of the track

Or... maybe the first tip is to raise the faders on other instruments!!! :D Just kidding. This was my thought as well even though I like Ermz and GGD.

Have to agree. I would have preferred an even comparison, but I will take all the advice I can get!

Nice! Well explained, I've even managed to get similar sounding mix with just stock Reaper plug-ins too, so that's awesome!

This was awesome, thanks so much. I've just made a bunch of Logic presets from these tips, so it'll save me lots of time in the future

Awesome... it would be also cool to include the reverb settings... :)

At 23 minutes I noticed that you used the term "parallel compression" but put the processing on the snare bus. Is this because you are dialing it in with the "mix" knob and not truly compressing the whole signal?

I took a similar approach to my drum sound in the normal version of GGD I feel like the cymbals and kick drum sounds better on modern and massive other than that my result was very similar to this !
@XiyuYang5 жыл бұрын
M&M has a wonderful room sound, there's just a "hugeness" in the room mics. Use a gate in upward expanding mode, and use your snare bus as external sidechain trigger, boom! You got this huge sounding snare going.

So all the shells go to the shell bus, and the cymbals go to the cymbal bus. Which bus does the room bus go to?

What about the reverb settings? My GGD Invasion can´t sound like that...are you using external reverb or internal?

Is this just M&M straight out the box? Or were levels adjusted inside Kontakt first?

Tim Merrick Nolly responded to me last time (not sure if it’s a re-upload) and he said he had everything set dead even at “0” before exporting out of GGD.

Ermin awesome tutorial! Drums sound awesome! I love your signal flow and session prep (especially the automation tracks!). I was curious if you could elaborate on why you are using natural phase for all your drum EQs? I'm assuming you are trying to minimize changes to the phase resulting from EQ to maintain the phase coherence between the drum mics, but I've been concerned about pre-ringing - especially for bass heavy transients. Do you ever run into this issue? Probably going to pick up these drums for an upcoming project. Thanks again GGD and Ermin for the great video! Cheers-

no doubt it's killer p.s. amazing to know that Ermin doesn't fall into the Mac/ProTools hole, but yeah gotta know more than just a system you prefer

Man, I literally do not understand a word of this. I do understand some of it, but for the most part I am completely lost. I bought the Matt Halpern pack not knowing how hard it would be to get a great drum sound. I am very agitated at this point, as I am not an audio engineer or producer lol... I don't know what to do.
@KotaCraig6 жыл бұрын
Hey Tim! We talked on Instagram today. This was one of the videos I was referring to. I dont think it will help with the level problem you described to me, with your tracks being too quiet, but this, along with Nolly's video about programming realistic drums ( velocities play so much) and Misha's parallel compression video, should help with your drum sound. We just need to get your levels up first.

I know this comment is late but it just takes time. Trust that as the months/years go on, your mixes and knowledge surrounding the jargon in these videos will improve.

to be fair it's kinda waste of resource to route mono source as stereo tracks, my two cents tho, because you can route mono materials as mono channels in Kontakt
