This made me remember when the era where Tyler Perry was actually putting out consistently good work. I think recently, it's moreso that he started recycling a lot of the themes, spreading himself too thin and it's more like its coming off an assembly line. I swear every black house hold can recite that table scene word for word and not stutter one time, and I’ll say it Angela was the only real friend she knew what was going on and wanted to say something way sooner call me the drama because I would’ve straight snitched. Also michael jai white is super nice I recommend watch Blood and bone starring him and Dante Basco or Jake long from American Dragon. Side note: I honestly appreciate you guys actually listen to us and take the time to read through your comments we NEVER see the bigger channels react to these movies and it’s a shame they are gems and have great life lesson, they touch real life issues, and rather your black or not I think a lot of people can relate to the issues Tyler brings to light with his plays/movies! Michael Jackson died during the filming of this film and Tyler Perry told her if she wanted to leave, he understands, but she refused and went back to filming after the funeral, which shows how brave this woman is. It was supposed to be a funeral scene but Tyler scraped it because he felt the scene would be too mich for Janet to bare, which goes to show good a person he is.

I appreciate you taking the time to view Tyler Perry's films. He gets a lot of criticism for his depiction of flawed Black men. And "Black culture". But at the core, he has found a formula for taking the subjects we don't normally face or discuss. And with a sense of humor. He always ends on a positive note.

It’s not explained in detail in this movie but Sheila had been abused by Mike for years. Physically and mentally. So much so that she can’t remember any of the normal couple achievements like moving in together, etc. as something happy because he always spoiled them for her. So when you picked up on the fact that she wanted to do normal couple things, that’s the hidden tragedy of her story. That she wasn’t given even an iota of that because Mike didn’t care for her as a human being or a wife. Also, Angie and Marcus are the stars of a spin-off tv series called For Better or Worse where they’re older (like around their 40s-50s). Angie has mellowed out a bit but there are still some contention in their relationship. The show mainly focuses on the rest of the cast but it’s pretty good and discusses things like HIV, domestic abuse, sexual identity, parenthood, and even cancer.

This is definitely one of Tyler Perry's top tier films! I recommend you all watch part 2 which is equally great. I like that he portrays real issues people face in marriage and how they can overcome them in a healthy manner. Michael Jai White went to my high school in Connecticut and the one time that I decided to skip school he decided to show up 😭😭😭😭 I graduated high school 11 years ago and I’m still mad at myself for skipping out on a chance to meet him. I like that Tyler Perry knows he’s not Scorsese nor is he trying to be. He understands that some people just go to movies to just enjoy the movie and move on right after.

In South Africa Tyler Perry films were the hype at his peak. That dinner scene was talked about for ages. You guys should check out the sequel to this it’s awesome and just as intense. It shows more of Mike and his character growth. I feel like he was written like this on purpose to focus on Shelia’s growth. But in the second movie it shows another side of them and their relationship. The sequel has similar but completely different lessons within it as well.

Terry annoyed tf out of me. When Tyler doesn’t play Madea or the other caricatures. He plays these holier than thou characters where all the bs in the relationship is mainly the woman. How they handled the baby conversation I felt it wasn’t handled well and no apologies on his part for being sneaky with his wife’s career with that phone call, dismissing her when she valid concern of being upset, breaking her phone, and basically losing her body autonomy and career bc it’s a “we” thing. It sounded less like compromise and sorry you gonna have this kid regardless bc we are married and that is the compromise you have to make if you are. Like that should’ve been further discussed…. Marcus was boosting himself as a good man when if she never admitted (also theory out that she just said that to save face) to own affair. He is left with cheating with his kids mom that he is in constant communication with, catching something without disclosing it to his partner, acting all “it makes no sense” that his kids mother thinks they have something more than discussing kids when they slept together anyways, and acts all indignant like boy you ain’t innocent either. I really like Sheila & Troy and Gavin & Patricia. Now for the second movie lowkey I consider that non canon cause oooooooooooh oooooooh

You guys should check out a film and a character that Michael Jai White created called" Black Dynamite" The movie came out in 2009 and it was a spoof film so no one thought it was going to be as good as it was but it was incredible. So incredible that it got its own cartoon on adult swim with a big budget and Michael Jai White is one of the writers
