Fun fact! Steve Buscemi was a firefighter with the FDNY. Buscemi took the Civil Service exam in 1976 when he was 18 years old, and served with the department from 1980 to 1984. He joined because his father believed in civil service. He also helped in the 9/11 events.

It’s funny, Sandler and Carrey were on a similar journey at that time. They were both trying to get out of the first stage of expected movies-the over the top goofball comedies. Carrey did Liar Liar and this for Sandler which were more mature themes and wholesome. Jim continued on to more meaningful projects and even though Sandler did a couple of deeper movies he pretty much continued with the goofball stuff for far too long. His movies were panned and he was laughed at for the wrong reasons. Which is terrible because by all accounts he’s a good guy. He was able to weather that storm though and he ultimately turned his career around with Uncut Gems. It was a great movie that earned him an Oscar nom. Now he’s a legend in my opinion. And I’m glad he made it through the tough times.
