What's insane is whenever Geto talks like he's about to snap, the sound of water starts playing, like in the showers or when it starts raining and it sounds like clapping. It must remind him of what happened to Amanai

This was my favorite subtlety about this episode. It just shows how traumatized Geto was from that scene and how much that messed with his head. And honestly, seeing a group of adults clapping for a young girl’s death would mess anyone up (well, Gojo was just too high from his awakening to actually feel anything). I hope other people see your comment, because that was absolutely brilliant sound design by MAPPA.

@sain1536 I meant that Gojo himself said that he wouldn’t feel anything if him and Geto decided to kill the religious group. Prior to that, Gojo even said that he wasn’t angry over Riko’s death during his internal monologue while fighting Toji, due his enlightened state. I personally don’t think Riko’s death and the religious group’s celebration of her death scarred Gojo as much as it scarred Geto, because Gojo was in such an enlightened state, sort of like a blank-slate and was just open to any possible actions/opinions. Kind of like how a child’s impressionable mind would be greatly imprinted on by whoever raised them. That’s why Geto was able to act as Gojo’s moral compass in that moment, which determined Gojo’s morality for years to come. And I’m sure if Gojo really wanted to kill the religious group, he would’ve done it before Geto arrived at the scene.
@celty228
@celty228 11 ай бұрын
@@sain1536 More accurately, during his high, Gojo couldn't feel. Or rather, couldn't feel from a biased point of view as he felt everything. Then, he came down from his high, saw Amanai's body, and more than not feeling sad about Amanai, he wouldn't feel anything from killing the religious group, as they are worth nothing to him. In that moment, both were in a fragile state and gave each other their ideas, hence the color themes of the negative blue of cursed energy and positive red of positive cursed energy. Geto gave Gojo his ideal of how a death should have meaning, and Gojo imprinted the idea that worms are worth nothing. Then they swap and you see how their alignments change, Gojo from negative to positive and geto vice versa

Nanami’s line after Haibara’s death is so important, asking Geto why they can’t leave all of the curse exorcisms to Gojo now that he’s the strongest so the rest of them don’t have to die. But Geto saw firsthand what happened when Gojo was exhausted from overworking and was nearly killed by Toji, and the insane and terrifying experience that resulted in him getting that strong in the first place. Geto wants a world where Gojo doesn’t have to be destroying and remaking his brain to protect himself and everyone else.

Yuki is definitely not evil, her ideas just come across a little sus because we're seeing Geto interpreting them while he's already spiraling, she's more of a scientist in a sense, looking for answers and alternatives to the way the Jujutsu world works. She just ends up unwillingly giving him stuff to think about, and then it becomes his easy way out (note how she's pointing at the emergency exit when she explains) when he finally DECIDES that he can't live with the deaths and mistreatment of the sorcerers around him anymore. Such a sad path for such a great character. Can't wait to see you guys reacting to the Shibuya arc, specifically one of the coolest characters coming up :D

I think having Megumi (and Tsumiki to some extent) as a responsibility helped keep Gojo grounded after Geto left the academy. He realized he'd have a second chance at making things right for a younger generation. He sponsored Megumi and Tsumiki's education and would check up on them often over the years. Now the love for his students is what drives him forward.

I think the two of them had choose different path on how to move forward as a Jujutsu sorcerers. Gojo choose to become a teacher so (as you said) he can make others/the younger sorcerers to become strong like him. Whereas Geto choose the "easy way" by killing all non-sorcerers

I think Gojo and Shoko had it at least as bad, if not worse, than Geto. Gojo as the strongest was being relied on for the worst and most difficult missions by himself; Shoko was kept mostly in the school to constantly deal with injuries, many of which would have been fatal despite her best efforts. In a way, if Geto had been less self-absorbed, he would have seen past just his own difficulties and paid attention to how Gojo and Shoko still managed to stay strong despite what they had to deal with. Instead he opted for an easy escape into madness, a bit like a drug addict choosing to detach from reality.

Everybody was waiting for that one single event to set geto over the edge only to find that it was just a series of unfortunate events: Riko and Toji trauma, gojo becoming the strongest leaving geto more alone and isolated, lack of sleep (can see from his eyes) nobody checking up on him, yuki planting bad ideas into his head at the wrong moment, haibara dying, the two little girls being mistreated by the villagers, killing everybody in the village, geto releasing that if he had gojos power the things he could do, even just his cursed technique forcing him to consume something so horrible every time he exorcises. All of that adding up into the geto we know now. It's sad cause maybe had someone noticed him on this spiral and talked to him, things could be different...

there's an important difference in the gojo and geto scene in the crowded street. from gojo's pov (the one we saw before) it was blurry, dark and sad because it was the end of their relationship and overall one of the worst days of gojo's life. from geto's pov (this episode) it's bright and clear and the music is happier because this was the path geto was happy taking. i love the attention to detail in scenes like these

Geto was definitely not happy. That fake smile, which developed into the Joker-like grimace we see in the film, was not a reflection of his true feelings. He had a breakdown and had resorted to a ruthless madness to distance himself from the painful reality of not being able to protect everyone. Most importantly, he even invited Gojo to kill him in that moment, that's how badly he was suffering.

I think mappa and the animators really did a good job on showing Geto's emotional state in this episode. The weight loss, unkempt hair and appearance, his eyebags got worse and even the water that sounds like clapping. What he did wasn't right but it's reasonable. He lost his motivation started from failing to protect Riko, losing to Toji, feeling left by his best friend. All those added with witnessing Haibara's death and Nanako and Mimiko mistreated (and by non sorcerers on top of that). He finally lost his moral values. Everything made him questioned what his truly goal was.

Its so tragic what happened with Geto. Gojo & Geto could have been one incredible team that could have help reform the jujutsu world, and guide the next generation. This past arc gives more depth to Geto's actions in JJK0 & also makes you appreciate what Gojo is doing now, why he chose to become a teacher, him wanting to help and guide the young sorcerers, make sure they're strong enough to survive this harsh world, with them as allies gradually change the backward system within the jujutsu society and most importantly make sure none of them will ever feel as alone and helpless as Geto felt. The thing Yuki was talking about a sorcerer turning into a curse after death isn’t what Sukuna has done. Basically, if you kill a jujutsu sorcerer WITHOUT cursed energy, there’s a big chance that the sorcerer will come back as a vengeful spirit due to the fact that all sorcerers die with at least some sort of regrets. That why it’s important to kill a sorcerer WITH cursed energy as that ensures that the sorcerer won’t come back as a vengeful spirit. If you look at it yuki's ideas are so necessary for the jujutsu society. Hunting curses being a never ending cycle is really a concerning thing. They constantly effect daily human lifes and results in thousands of human life every year in japan only and yet there isn't a permanent solution to this even after so many years. And in case there's a chance of a calamity like sukuna or the other disaster class curses which can wipe out cities and even nations. The power balance between curses and sorcerers are bound to astray. Apparently, it isn't like aot kr ds where killing every curses in the world will solve everything bcoz curse energy from civilians will still remain that can form up curses later on.

The star vessel group made Geto realise that the common people is who is truly the strong, as they use the chains of morality to force sorcerers into this dangerous life. Most Jujitsu sorcerers are forced into this dangerous and unending lifestyle of combatting curses for the common people, a problem the common people created, with no understanding or appreciation from them. The death of Haibara and witnessing how the common people treated those 2 little girls with jujitsu ability pushed him over the edge. His technique definitely made it worse but it’s not the main cause.

I wonder how different of an experience this show would be if you watch the first 5 eps of JJK 2 first, then watch 0, then 1, and then the rest of 2. It would probably feel even better than it already is.

The "curse user turns into a curse after they died" thing is not a random drop actually, it is a common knowledge in jujutsu society. When Gakukanji (Kyoto's principal) asks his students to k*ll Yuji, he told them to do it with curse energy/technique because he could come back as a curse if they hadn't.

Knowing the full back story now makes me love how they showed Geto and Gojos conversation on the street. At the beginning of the season when it was darker and more sinister you're lead to believe it's from Geto's perspective but I think it's actually from Gojos. It's the anguish he's feeling knowing that his best friend went rogue and abandoned his former principles. But when we see the scene again at the end of the arc it's for Geto's perspective, bright outside with sunshine showing how he's made his resolve and is no longer struggle with the weight of his opposing viewpoints. 10/10 arc.

Honestly, I feel so bad for Geto. So many things leading up to the point when he snapped. Amanai's death, the trauma he got from Toji, those people clapping to celebrate a girl's death, him being alone, his talk with Yuki, Haibara's death, seeing the two girls locked away... I'm not saying what he's doing is good, but I don't blame him for reaching that breaking point after his mindset was turned upside down. The way he heard clapping in the background, for example instead of the rain, was simply haunting... and now going to Shibuya arc after this, we are in for a ride.

my favorite bit of storytelling from this arc is how in this episode, geto says that gojo had become the strongest. in the first episode of the season, gojo says they’ll be fine on the mission because “we’re the strongest.” they went from being a duo who could go up against anyone and anything, to gojo being the strongest on his own. and seeing how a year later, how much that has affected geto, is just heartbreaking.

15:47 it's not random tho, that thing about curse users becoming vengeful curse spirit was mentioned briefly during S1. And it's not like the sorcerer can do it, if the sorcerer die but no curse energy was involved in the death, there is always a chance they can be reborn as a curse spirit. Also, I love your theories and of course I don't like to confirm or denied them because of spoilers, but since this is something that already happen I guess there is no much problems... Geto cannot be a curse, remember that scene were he goes to a restaurant with Jogo and Hana I, everyone could see him, but not everyone could see the curses, so by that logic, Geto is still a person, someone that should be dead but is alive somehow.

Waiting a month for more episodes gonna be rough without JJK. The animation in this episode was quite interesting although it looked a lil goofy at some points lol. Its really sad to see how geto reached to his true feelings on how he views Jujutsu sorcerers and non sorceres. Unlike eren genocide aint it for geto and seeing gojo lose his one and only friend was quite sad too. Your discussions were sure interesting. Pretty hyped about shibuya arc, been hearing a lot of praise from the manga readers, so lets see how this goes.
