I agree that is a stunning view as I've camped on that exact site. As I live in Natal, I've had the privilege of camping in quite a few Drakensberg resorts. Mountain Splendour is not far behind Hlalanati.

Camping in a tent in Mahai in mid winter cured me of tenting. After that 2001 winter We bought a on road caravan and Kruger Park saw us many times in all weathers. Having a fully enclosed tent attached to a caravan makes it a lot more comfortable in the rain.

Hi Chris. Interesting video about the rain. Lessons learned from my side is when pitching your camp make sure you stand o level piece of area but not one where water cant flow away. I once did not notice that and after a night of good rain I stood in about 100mm of water. On my Companion I changed my Hansen Geyser to the 5,5L Camping Gas geyser. So far so good. I also now have more available space in my nosecone to pack odds and ends. Keep on sharing please. Paul

Hi Chris, we recently bought an Invader camper and went to Hlalanathi for our first trip in March. Stayed in the same number 4 site as you did. Magnificent views, but the problem is you can get extreme wind and rain as we did. Our tent section blew down on our first night, (partly due to being novices) But we have done 2 more trips since then with heavy rain during both, but we are still loving it. Kruger next month so holding thumbs on the rain! Enjoy all your videos!
@GetOutGO2 жыл бұрын
Thanks David! A camper definitely makes it a little easier in bad weather. I’ve just put an awning on my car as well though so we’ll see how that goes 😉
@hermanvanrensburg49012 жыл бұрын
Beautiful areas that you showed us Chris. My item for rainy weather...bungy cords. Don't laugh. Strategically placed underneath an awning or gazebo you can prevent water from gathering and even direct where you want it to go. Setup dependent of course. Here is a suggestion for campsite owners/managers. Have a few treated and modified pallets available. If the weather forecast is bad have them on standby for campers to place under their groundsheets. Just so you don't have to stand and walk in water for days on end.
@GetOutGO2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Herman, will try that out!

Good video Chris. I can imagine it must be tough to get content when it’s just raining but you did a great job. We’ve been to Mahai before over the December period. We had the afternoon shower for 15-20 minutes and then it cleared up too. A for sure highlight in the area are the rock pools only a 10 minute hike away. A longer complex hike takes you below the mountain inside a semi opened cave where there are pools. There is also a restaurant a few kilos away that serves the best pizza accompanied with a cold beer to make those hot days pleasurable. Thanks for reminding us of this spot. Cheers.
