This occured during a special time, BTS Connect. BTS commissioned artists all over the world and sponsored exhibits for people to visit FREE. They spent millions and gave many artists a chance to have big scale exhibits. It was BTS's way to give people a chance to experience art in many forms. These exhibits were in major countries all over the world and included visual art, graphic art, performance art, art experiences, etc. This was the intro piece. They commissioned this dance troupe to create a visual dance experience for Black Swan which included this orchestral version. Black Swan could be intrepreted as one dealing with their shadows and how the shadows in your life can hold you back. But he key is to learn to live in harmony with your shadows so you can reach new heights.

For me, Black Swan (original) is forever masterpiece of BTS. The production quality is insane. Really love, adore, and never get tired of it. Also love the meaning of the song. When many artists fear to lose the fame, BTS fears to lose their passion of music. ♡ And I'm happy they released this version. I love strings. Classy, classic, and dramatic. ♡ Thanks for the reaction, guys..

The key to Black Swan is the quote by Martha Graham at the start of the video "A dancer dies twice--once when they stop dancing, and this first death is the more painful." BTS applies this to creating and performing music.

Man I was deep in the rabbit whole and reading lots of theories based on Jungian theory when this came out. My humble interpretation was that the black clad dancers represented the shadow, the repressed and undesired or shunned aspects of ourselves that reside in our subconscious. They break out and you lose control if you don’t acknowledge and accept them as part of your being. Anyhow the shadows had obviously taken control of the main dancer and he was fighting to be free of their hold on him. He was trapped in the cage they made until he started to regain his footing when he started to see them as part of himself rather than something to conquer and extinguish. Then he was able to break free. He goes down the stairs ( into his sub-conscience) to confront these aspects of himself, vices, fears, maybe even positive things that have been hidden away due to rejection from society. He resolves this inner conflict and toward the end you can see him leading. The shadows follow his movement. He is in control. They lift him up and he can harness that unlocked power to soar, be creative, exist as his true self. The great debate when it came out was whether the shadows were still tethering him to the ground or not. I lean towards the latter. Anyway it was so cool to get this video after discovering the clues from the end of the Love Yourself series into the Persona album and picking up clues from performances over the year. It was the kind of brain work that can happen with such intricately crafted thematic albums and worlds and that’s what sunk me into this ARMY life. Anyway this is long as heck now but yeah Also Fear if God is a black owned brand that the guys ( mostly Joon and Yoongi) wear often. As always love your chill genuine vibes.

See, I always thought they were holding him down because his arms were going in the opposite direction of something going up. He seems to be releasing air up as opposed to pulling air down. Anyway not trying to bring up the debate again, just liked your response and wanted to throw in my two cents. 🙂

RM wrote the song Black Swan. He cried while writing lyrics. I edited but In their press Conference Namjoon said, he cried while writing all of the songs (it was all three songs: black swan, we are bulletproof eternal + louder than bombs!) because he remembers the days where all of them are still underrated 🥺😢😭(past)
@SnapCracklyPop
@SnapCracklyPop 3 жыл бұрын
I think you’re mistaking that with the song We Are Bulletproof: The Eternal, because that one is about the past and RM cried writing that song. Which I don’t blame him, because I cry and choke up whenever listen to that song knowing the things they’ve been through since the beginning. Black Swan is about the fear of losing their passion for music and it’s like a first death.

The song talks about losing your passion and being overcome by your "shadows", so the video shows the fight against the inner demons that were first suppressing him from flying but later propping him up.. I won't get into more details, but their songs are best interpreted in the context of the entire album..

So you need to study the lyrics a little to understand this, of both this and its paired song, Shadow. These two songs are about the Shadow (Jungian theory of the Self) engulfing you, controlling and drowning you. The dance here seem (to me) to move from the Shadow controlling and hindering the Swan's flight, imprisoning the Swan. He fights the shadows, but eventually he acts together with them, and his movements now control the shadows. Only then is he lifted up to fly. All of the Map of the Soul: 7 tells a cohesive story of the Self, culminating in ON, where they embrace their own shadow, and accept this side of their Self. Only then we can be whole.

When this song first came out, this was the only thing we had to look at, because BTS/BigHit wanted it that way for their celebration of the arts. AND, it was a creative and amazing way to celebrate dance (I'm a dancer so I understood). But to be honest, after I saw BTS perform Black Swan on the Late Late Show and especially after BTS' 2020 MMA Performance, I never wanted to see this video again, LOL! 😂 I'm glad you guys enjoyed it and thank you for the treat of letting us see the boys react to it again! For weeks OR FOR WHAT FELT LIKE WEEKS, this was all we had to look at before the debut performance. Watching this and buying the BT21 Mang headband, you guys are on the way to becoming full ARMY! 💜

That's so interesting, because I had the exact same experience. At first I really liked this performance a lot and in fact, I was worried that the BTS performance would pale in comparison and that I wouldn't be able to enjoy it, but after seeing the first 30 seconds of the James Corden show performance, I realized how wrong I was. And of course the MMA 2020 performance was a masterpiece. 👍

To me the dance portrays BTS’s journey, where they did things differently to the other Kpop groups and were push down and everyone was trying to keep them in their own box . At the top of the escalator he finally realises that he must be himself no matter what and from then on he is seen as stronger and different and the others try to copy him. Then at the end he rises above everyone and soars to the top. Just my interpretation.

I loved how much they were taken by the beauty of the dance and immediately wanted to practice their own version for their fans, ARMY and how they were anticipating our interpretation of their art. They create something magical for us and look forward to what we give back to them as their reward. I can’t think of any other artists that care this much, give much and work this hard. 💜💜

"So chill you almost fall asleep 😴" 😂😂😂 I like chill - it's like we're hanging out watching new mvs and listening to new music, and instead MCA doing the introducing to DJ, it's ARMYs doing the introducing to yguys 😂 I enjoyed this so much. It's been a while since I watched Black Swan the Art Film MV. It's an MV that hits quite deep for me. Couldn't help but cry a little watching again with yguys The Black Swan Art Film opens with a quote, that holds basically the essence of the theme of BTS' Black Swan: BTS' fear of losing passion for their art, how that "first death for a dancer/artist" is the more painful The dancers in the Art Film are from MN Company. In the mv, they portrayed the protagonist's (shirtless dancer) struggles against his shadows ie inner darkness (the dancers doing black outfits) In the opening, we see how when the Swan tried to take flight, his inner shadows pushed him down, imprisoning him in a cage that's basically unreal since it's only made up of lights. In the 2nd verse, in concordance with the lyrics where BTS sang "nothing can devour me, I shout out with ferocity" shows the Swan breaking free from the prison and fighting back. When he's landed down on the steps, his shadows attack him once again, and yet this time he was able to overcome them (see how the dancer threw the shadow dancers who tried to grab him, over his shoulders). When the shadows grabbed him, and tried to pull him back, he was able to break free from their grasp, and able to control his shadows to /HIS/ will (as seen by them following and imitating his movements) I cried at this part. Bc this shows the Swan not only overcoming his shadows, but also accepting and taking control of his shadows, and the final dance, we see a familiar sequence like in the opening act. The Swan tried to take flight, but this time instead of his shadows pushing him down, they LIFT him up as the Black Swan majestically and triumphantly takes his flight It's very on theme with the album it was released in . Black Swan was released in February 2020 in the album "Map Of The Soul 7", one out of 2 albums in which BTS explored Jung's Map of The Psyche where Jung theorises that a person's self includes the conscious and un/subconscious, and factions that faces the outer world (the Ego, and Persona)and the faction that faces their inner world( the Shadow, and Animus) Map of the Soul: Persona (released April 2019) and Map of the Soul: 7 (released Feb 2020) explore this theory. And hence, the rapline each has a song representing parts of the "Self" RM's Intro: Persona Suga's Intro: Shadow Jhope's Outro: Ego (I listed them according to chronology of release) Another trivia! Before you react to RM's Intro: Persona, I wanna recommend you react to Intro: Skool Luv Affair first please, bc RM sampled Intro: SLA I to his Intro:Persona Another trivia! Fear of God is a brand fo clothing. It's one of RM and Suga's fav brands, they've been seen with F.O.G shirts and clothing a lot. Thanks!

In this album, BTS pushes against what people expect of them. 6:13 THIS was how ARMY was introduced to Black Swan, only knowing that the album series was inspired by Carl Jung's theories as described in Map of the Soul, and with hints from the ends of the Love Yourself era performances. They prepared SO MUCH for the album's release, only to have Covid rob the attention MOTS:7 DESERVED. It truly deserved a Grammy, and should have had more relevant nominations for it's pure ARTISTRY, especially taken as a whole. Edit: You should really read the comments on the video you reacted to (well, really, on all of them) so you can see the various theories we all had. It really shows off how subjective interpretation is, and yet can still be true from each person's perspective.

I love how all their reactions are completely predictably in character for each of them. RM is speculating about the story and meaning behind it. Suga is imaging what inspiration they could take for their own creations. J-Hope is admiring their fitness and the evocative power of dance. JK and V and Jin are completely enrapt, absorbing everything. Jimin is admiring their skill and saying he’s not that good (💔😭) even though he is famous and well respected in Korea just for his dancing.

I remember you were wondering in one of your videos if BTS also did classical music and here it is. I love their voices over the dramatic music. Is a little different than what we are used to but very good. BTS not afraid of exploring different genres 💜💜💜💜

Fear Of God is actually a brand of clothing. Members wore and wear it a lot. Black Swan hit hard when it first came out. But ever since then I've been studying art and dance, and it is amazing how much more i interpret through a few simple moves.

When Black Swan came out, this is the first mv , not the one filmed in theatre. This is an era BTS is promoting a lot art and artists. BTS has an event called Connect BTS, where they held art exhibitions in 5 different countries for army for free.

I remember when this came out I felt this immense pride to being their fan. Who else is doing something like this? I really loved the release of MOTS: 7 because it was a collaboration with different forms of art, they did connect 7 with the album release and I just thought wow. What an homage to creativeness. What a beautiful way to release an album, to collaborate with different forms of art. And this rendition of black swan is so beautiful! It’s so interesting the different interpretations, to RM in the end it was that he tried to fly away but they held onto him stopping him, but to me it was that he was finally able to fly and the others were uplifting him Into that. Also Fear of God is a clothing brand, Suga and RM tend to wear it a lot.

MOTS7 was an AMAZING era… like BTS really went ALL OUT in the promotions like in the aspects of art, connecting different artists from different parts of the world, project by project, film by film, masterpiece by masterpiece (also the way armys are panicking theory per theory hahaha). I really love this era so much, the type i would die for experiencing it again for the first time 😍💜💙 + i feel like they had so much plans for this comeback but covid had to fuck it all up :((

Jimin’s solo performance during their online concert last year to this version of the song made me cry. It was so incredibly moving. I don’t know if you can watch it without being blocked, cus it’s paid content, but please do watch it - even if just for yourselves. Part of it is also in the official MV, but we never get the full taste of it in there.

Black Swan is one of the most famous ballets in history and has been performed thousands of times over the years. It’s also more recently an multi-oscar nominated movie which won actress Natalie Portman her first Best Female lead Oscar win. In that film and many interpretations of the ballet she starts off as a female ballet dancer who becomes obsessed with becoming the best to the point of neurosis and losing her mind. She goes from wearing white to wearing black as she enters the dark side and in the her obsession it leads to her death. In this art film you see the dancer being caged and trying to run away from the others dressed in black (the dark side) and ends with him being raised above and they all take the shape of the swan. In the BTS music video you see the members dressed in black and white only. Jimin does a lot of the solo modern dance parts in the music video (he was the top student in the modern dance dept at his art school as a teen before joining the group) and in the video he starts with wearing white but then is wearing black and he grows black wings in one scene at the middle of the video. At the end Jimin is on the ground flailing to the point he is still and dead. The song itself pertains to the quote by Martha Graham (a very famous dancer) that starts off this art video . The fear of losing passion for what you build your life doing…and that is your first death. But in the end of the music video Suga ends his part saying he will overcome it and not let negative thoughts (the shadow) overtake him and will hold on to his passion. You see at the very end of the video the shadow fades away. This song and the concept behind it as artists is a masterpiece and undoubtedly one of their best. It shows their growth and maturity and highlights them reflecting on themselves as artists at this point. The entire Map of the Soul 7 album is centered on expressing this self reflection. One of my absolute favorites among all their albums. Not a single song I would skip from beginning to end.

One of the interesting things BTS' company do is mashups with the broader art world, they don't limit their scope to just music and dance/performance. This was a first, to have a professional Dance Company promote the launch of an album with a specially comissioned Art Film that included the orchestral version of the first single they would release. Another comment already mentioned BTS Connect which was public art in different cites around the world. They now have their own Museum at the new company HQ in Seoul called HYBE Insight where they have different exhibits including some interactive ones, the BTS trophy wall and exhibits that are inspired by BTS lyrics or the members. It looks like a fun and very high tech Museum to visit.

Black swan is a masterpiece, an art really. As many has said, it was about fear of losing your passion, and a journey to face your dark side. So the dancers in black clothes was "shadow". At first they kind of devours the main dancer, but in the end the main dancer took control (as you see the shadows starts imitating his dance moves), and in the end, they help him fly as a whole individual (this is my own interpretation, but music is such a diverse art that every person can interpret in their own way right?) . Anyway, thank you for reacting to this song and art film, it means a lot to us. Stay healthy and may your future filled with good things only :)

Sometimes we feel our "shadow" holds us back,we struggle & fight against it, we run away towards the light but eventually we realize the only way to fly is to accept both light and shadow and become one with it.
