If, anyone is reading my comment, and your worst subject is math… please watch all his videos! I passed my math today with a score of 156 and it was my 3rd time taking it.. I went to GED classes at the college, and the instructor could not help me the way these videos have… I’m crying as I type this because my last 2 math scores were 138, and I was sure I was gonna make the same score the 3rd time! If, I can hug and kiss this man today, I would!! His voice is so soothing, he explains everything so easily, in a way you could understand! His humor makes you wanna watch all his videos, you don’t get boring! You’re having fun while you’re learning, I know, crazy right!!! For Choice B: Could I plug-in the number 4 for (x). Would the result would be, Y = 3? @ 2:14

Yup! That's another way to do it, is change x = 4 for B: 1/3(4) + 5/3 and this will give us 3, so (4, 3) works! Or, if you plug in x = -5: 1/3(-5) + 5/3 and this will give us 0, so (-5, 0) works! Hope that helps!

I remember when, around 1994, that my math teacher handed us all scientific calculators and explained to us, "In the future, there will be entire classes on how to use these devices. There will be math problems given to you that you'll need these for. You'll need to know how to use them." We proceeded to spend the first 30 minutes of every math class for an entire semester just on becoming familiar and proficient with using the Texas Instruments calculator. And here I am, 30 years later, going for my GED, watching these videos, and a smile comes across my face every time you bring out the calculator. She was right. It's amusing how frequently the thing is required to solve some of these problems. Thank you for the content, sir. I've learned quite a bit. *Also, I giggle every once in a while thinking back to the shaped blocks and the square hole.

Hah! Your teaching knew what was up! I think one of the most important things I learned in my high school math classes was how to use the calculator. I was really grateful that they showed us how to use it, so I'm glad that these explanations are helpful!

Glad it was helpful! You probably know this, but be careful - the GED in Canada is a very different test than what shows up on the US GED! @@GetSumMath it is for a job that I have to go to school for so needed my GED first. I had worked as an assistant manager in a grocery store for close to 15 years and wasn’t really happy with my life. I was offered a job doing lashes as it’s become a booming industry and I jumped at the chance. It’s pretty scary changing careers and taking a hit financially but I choose to be happy 😁

I'm liking your videos so far. A lot of these other videos, the people just seem to pull numbers from nowhere. I also like that you take the time to show how to use the calculator. It's been like 11 years since school so I forgot all that lol. I got a 142 on my practice test, and that was with next to no studying, so I hope after watching these, I'll feel confident enough to try again.

you do a good job of explaining and labeling different topics covered, but I still feel overwhelmed. Got a 142 in my practice and I guessed. Some of it was using common sense, but a lot of this algebraic stuff seems unfathomable to me. Like I need it explained to me like I'm five, but I don't know where to start. Thank you.

A great place to start are some individual topic videos so you can see many examples! I would start with Functions, Distance on Number Lines, Mean/Median/Mode initially. Then you could start getting into Area, Perimeter, and geometry. But, the algebra is the hardest part, so I would definitely save that for last!

You continue to use the pi symbol for your calculations, but on the GED test you are supposed to use the rounded off amount of 3.14.

Hey there, good point! Since some of their answers still have a pi in them, if you use the pi button you can find that answer easily. If they use the decimal form you can just use the left/right button above Enter to convert, so you're covered either way. But, I agree with you, they do sometimes round to pi, so their multiple choice might be slightly different (but it'll still be obvious which it is). I just like that with the pi button you can see either answer easily!

in question 2, how did you know to do a negative (-) then the minus -? I kept getting it wrong in my calculator till I paid close attention of what you clicked.

Great question - if it shows up in the front, it'll be the white negative (-) button on the bottom, but if it's between things, it'll be the minus - sign on the right side. Hope that helps a little!

What calculator are you using?

It's a TI-30xs Multiview. They sell it on Amazon for $15, but I've heard that you can download the digital version with a 90 day free-trial on Texas Instrument's website. Hope that helps!

The main reason you might get a syntax error is using a minus instead of a negative in the parentheses. Or, using the negative button instead of a minus between numbers. Lastly, just making sure to close all parentheses. Let me know if that helps!
