Tr for no 3 .The first part I got is 800*15%=120 and 800+120=920 so for the second triangle I added 920 as total and got 920*5%=46 then the discount is 920-46=874 but there's not that option in answers Can you please help me out with this one ?

@@nansusandinaing1469 Hey there, you have the right idea, but since it's 15% off you'll subtract the 15% (or 120), so 800-120 = 680 for the whole for the 2nd triangle!

Love all your videos. They help me teach my GED classes. But remember part is not always the smaller amount (even though this is often the case). If your rate is bigger than 100%, your part will be bigger than the base or whole. For example, 60 is 150% of 40. 60=part, 150% = rate and 40 = base. Your base is always the number that represents 100% value in your problem. Part is "tied" to the rate, meaning whatever the part is, the rate represents that proportion as a percentage. Hope that helps someone.

Great point! Totally spot on. I fell into that phrase since, like you said, most of the GED problems we encountered with tax, tip, discount, etc. stuck heavily to this pattern. But I like the way you explain that the base is always 100%, that's a great frame of reference for those cases where the part is over 100%. Thanks for sharing!

Took my test today for the 4th time and I failed with a 143. It was an improvement from last weeks try of 139 but now I have to wait 60 days to take a re test. I’m struggling with remembering percents and can really use some help and some freshening up overall. You are by far the best teacher on YT and your videos have helped me improve dramatically, I just feel like I’m missing a few small things

I'm trying to solve the practice question on the website Percents (Calculator allowed) 1) You got an 80 on your midterm. On your final, you scored 15% better. What did you get on your final? A. 95 B. 92 C. 88 D. 84 I assume 80 is the part because its the smaller number and 15% is the percent, but when I divide the part by the whole it gives me 533.33

The way you're thinking about it makes total sense! For this one, since they did 15% better than an 80, we want to find 15% of 80 first. Therefore, we're looking for a smaller amount first. So that's why we'll multiply 80 • 15% to get 12, which is the part. Next, since they've done 15% better, that's why we'll add that 12 to the original 80 to get 92. Hope that helps 🙏🏻

You can! The part up top is the two subtracted (103.53 - 89.91), and the whole is the original (103.53). Then you can divide those to get the percent change 👍🏼
