36, I feel that I've been at the exact place what you describe 2 years ago, but at the same time that's the moment where your inner strength truly shines even if it doesn't feel like it, it's a complete paradox. I also learned at that time which of my friends were the true, real ones ("Prawdziwych przyjaciół poznaje się w biedzie.") and I've learned to be genuinely happy for them, even though I don't have what they do and they also do know how much it costs me. Loneliness is tough, I know that first hand, but honestly what came before was even worse, so now I learn to appreciate at least the peace I have while being by myself. It does get better, it REALLY does, just don't give up on yourself and keep on going. Additionally, give yourself a little bit of acknowledgment: after all, how many of the people you see and compare yourself to did survive what you have? Probably not many. That may make you smile with pride, even if it's mixed with sadness. You'll be all right, stay awesome, cheers from Wrocław :)

40 single male here, I am absolutely in the same place. Just feel like this last decade has been a total wash. Sure, I have a good job, a nice apartment, and decent friends, but dating is super hard for various reasons, and people seem to barely go out anymore, so most nights I'm just at home alone trying to keep myself entertained. I would love someone or something to focus on and help give me some purpose because I just don't really care all that much chasing hobbies that only enrich myself. I'm not looking for someone else to magically give my life purpose but it's natural to feel as though trying to do everything on your own and for yourself just feels kind of hedonic and boring. Anyways, I know I'm rambling but you're not alone. Wish I had any advice other than stay active and make efforts to get out and socialize, which might mean making new friends and stepping outside your comfort zone (if your friend group is like my primary friend group that's mostly couples that keep to themselves). One thing I've learned from these last 10 years is solitude can only lead to sadness and depression.

I definitely need this. 27 year old woman living with her mom. I spent the first half of my 20’s traveling and working seasonal jobs and I don’t regret any of it, but here I am, working at a restaurant, struggling financially, and struggling mentally. 2024 was the worst mental health year for me in a decade. I almost left this world multiple times. I’m finally starting to pull myself back together and set my path forward, looking to enroll in cosmetology school to become a hairstylist (which I always said would be my backup plan). The hard reality of it is that I’ll have a year of school, a year of being an assistant, so I realistically won’t become a hairstylist until I’m 30. I wish I didn’t start my career path so late because my dream has always been to be a wife and mother, and I’m going to be really busy with school (no time for a relationship) but I just need to accept that this is where I’m at and there will still be time to have those things, it just won’t be on the timeline I always wanted.

And I've always been single, but we can make it, sis! Most people do really questionable choices based on some tradition or their egos. You seem to be a great person and that's all that matters. I just turned 40- never married and no kids. I had a handful of good relationships, but in the end, none I wanted to make a major commitment such as marriage to. At one point, I did play the comparison game, but this is what I’ve realized: some people out there like myself are people who are very self aware and won’t settle for less and alternatively, some of the people I see on social media with the ‘perfect’ life may be very unhappy or even mildly and consistently unhappy, but are so afraid of change inertia is more attractive to them. There are some people out there who “have it all” and have worked hard for it, but many people out there who keep up appearances do so because they are scared to make changes.

I'm with you. I'm in early 40, in a relationship but not married and too late to have kids while I'm still trying to build my future financial and fixing my anxiety. I admire my peers who just walk their lives seemingly effortlessly while live, amidst their struggle but seems like they are living a fulfilled life. While I feel honestly quite scared of the idea of lonely old days. But at this point of time I realized my back story probably doesn't allow me to have a healthy relationship if my life progressed in the same timeline as others. The unhappy life of social media persona you mentioned is spot on, when I saw the beautiful portrait of people I know, I realized I have something they dont have and vice versa. There is no perfect life, there is only a life that is perfect for me as who I am.

That’s not self awareness it’s “delusion”. You forgot somewhere along that life is for living and all those who have a family have “family” because they prioritised it over the person. Thank you Matthew. I was conditioned from birth to compare myself in an unfavorable way. And it's super tough to get out of that self critical mindset. Having lost my childhood, and learning to reclaim those creative, adventurous, playful "irresponsible and selfish" parts of me, Today what's right for me is to put less pressure on myself, in fact to remove ALL pressure on myself to improve, prove, achieve, progress, figure it out, or fix myself. Today what's right for me is to find ways to just Be. And enjoy what that's like. Thank you, and here's to a fantastic 2025 for all of us.

I see many of my friends in relationships and marriages on social media. Trust me, while it might seem happy and dandy on social media, there's typically fights and arguments and disagreements that go on behind the scenes. Dont be so fooled that everyone is living a happy life. Focus on what you have and make the most of it. If you're single, work hard to make some extra money, or join clubs, outings, events. Learn a skill, a hobby, whatever. And if you have some money left over go on an epic solo vacation without distractions and stress. I'm single at 30, and honestly I used to be sad I was single, but I've learned to use it to my advantage

Mid 50s and can identify with this in several areas of my life. I can look at where others are in their careers and feel very behind, however I overlook the things I did when I was young that others put off till retirement ,when there is no guarantee they will be healthy enough, or a "one day" that might never come, so they could focus on their careers.

As a 19 year old who just got out of a 7 Month serious relationship I need to learn how to be on my own. I jumped from relationship to relationship and never took time to realize what it even means to be yourself. I always changed and tuned myself to my partner and lost my whole personality. I had this craving and need for validation and love because I never really loved myself or learned to love myself. She did broke my heart and I know I could get into another relationship with the things I learned but I need to be alone and mentally recover not only because of the relationship but because of all the things that happened in the past which I just ignored and pushed through. This is probably this most difficult and worst time of my life but I see in the very far distance a light. A glimmer of hope. This too will pass sometime

I love your videos. You were part of a lot of factors that built me after a bad breakup. I was lost in life in general. Not just in romance, but in life, no direction etc.... but five years later I picked up the broken parts and now I am getting married next year to the love of my life. Even if you don't read this, I hope God rewards you for the help you give. TY

Definitely feel this. When family looks down on you or doesn’t take you seriously, it affects you in ways you don’t realize. Never have had what others have, marriage, friends, house or enough money to support myself…yet. I say yet because it’s not over and I’m only in my thirties and still have aspirations and hope for the future. Try to have a relationship with God and keep pushing forward even on the days you want to quit. Take a break sometimes, but don’t quit.

I'm 27 and went through one of the most traumatic breakups of a four year relationship imaginable a few years ago which I have come so far from and built myself up again to be someone I should be proud of. I've struggled with dating a lot since then as it's hard being a single man while all your friends and relatives have partners and are getting married but I'm on my own journey and it's nice to have a reminder of that - I'm exactly where I'm supposed to be. I know my time will come I've just got to continue working on myself and loving myself and I appreciate so much of what was said In this video. Much love ❤

I was all "that described" in the video in 2014...I had broken up with a guy who wasted my time since 2012...then I commited a mistake and entered in a relationship in 2015 very quickly which didn't go well either, that's when I stambled on this guy Matthew Hussey. I was in a terrible state where I added wounds on wounds on my heart, but then I had exams coming up which were very important. I had to put all my love issues aside and concentrate what was at hand. After that, I needed to nurse my heart by doing other things and to avoid social media altogether. When looking at people on social media who have what I lacked made me feel terrible. Now I'm single and focusing on myself. I nolonger think about love anymore and I nolonger feel terrible when looking at people who are in love...I'm just loving myself

I'm a 30 year old guy who has never heard the words "I love you" in romantic context ever. I dwell on that sometimes and it hurts really bad. I've only been in what may be classified as a "situationship" which is only one, but never been in an actual relationship ever. This situationship destroyed me for years. I kept coming back to her because I couldn't find anyone and to this day, I'm still trying to heal from it. She just blocked me out of nowhere. This video resonates with me.

But I am 43, I've met a great guy about 2 years ago whose biggest flaw is to totally shut down and give silent treatment whenever I am ill. We talked about it a few times and still, here I am lying in bed with fever for the past 3 days and he hasn't called or texted me once...Don't know if our relationship has a future. Life just seems totally unfait right now

It's the looks of pity that are like a dagger through my heart. 25 years ago my partner abandoned me and destroyed my trust in men. Everyone I know is married 30+ years and when I bump into ex-colleagues that I haven't seen for years I can see that pitying look when I tell them that yes, I'm single - again. If I had my life to live over I would NEVER help anyone with their marriage issues, parental problems, job applications, debts etc - I'd let them work it out for themselves just like everyone's left me to work out how to walk life's path alone.

Ok, I get it, Matthew. Everyone has a unique karmic journey. Celebrate your own, no matter what, because it makes you strong and unique. Do not get sucked into the illusion of some abstract comparison because we are all on relative timelines, and have different gifts and challenges. This is a nonproductive habit. And stop wallowing in past regrets, of ifs and buts, and what ifs. Instead, ask yourself, what can I do for myself right now.

I'm 34, at the beginning of being a self employed singer, looking at everyone who's been grafting for the past 10 years to be where they are at my age and on top of that, I'm going through heartbreak from a guy that I thought was the one. I've never felt more behind! But what's right for me right now is focusing on myself and my health. I've spent my whole life putting others first and pushing my own needs to the side, it's time to shift my focus and start showing the love I so freely give to others, to myself.

Hit 40 a few months ago, and now I'm the second last single woman in all my groups of girl friends (they're all married with kids or engaged, or divorced and remarried). The other single woman doesn't want marriage or kids. They've all bought homes or have investment properties. Most have kids. The gap between what they have and I have are widening. Even amongst my work colleagues (25 year olds to 50 year olds), I am the only singleton on the team, as they're all married with kids. At parties they talk about their kids and families, whereas I have funny or crappy online dating stories. More and more, I have less in common with them...

Same exact situation! )) You described me. I am turning 40 next month. Working a "small' job, moving from one relationship to another (I live in New York and 3-4 months seems like a common lifespan of a relationship here, unfortunately). Despite all that I am optimistic and grateful, and, having honest conversations with "married with kids' friends helps to understand that their scenario is a not an easy scenario to say the least. Some married women feel like single moms. Kids are the most unpredictable project. You might be happier being single dating, renting an apartment or living with a roommate. Maybe you just got used to good things that we enjoy being childless and single. You have more sleep, more freedom, more ways to work on your wants and needs. I am sure you look younger than many of your married peers. There are many things to appreciate about your life. Married women get panic attacks and existential crisis too :)

Like soem people have terrible AdHD brains and they’re aalmost always in functional freeze and it’s genuinely hard for them to make decisions compared to someone who doesn’t and it’s easier for them to accomplish quickly … just like trauma Brains . Trauma brians function differently compared to someone who hasnt experienced them . And we’re comparing ourselves to someone else’s Brains when neurologically we’re all very different in terms of how we show up in life and at work

I recently walked away from a man who couldn't decide whether or not to be with me officially but still wanted to date. Never would have done that 2 years ago but I did. Thank you so much Matthew for this awesome video and to everyone else in the comments for sharing! I'm definitely the person in my group of friends and coworkers who isn't married or has children. My friends got busy with their own lives after they got married and had kids so I barely see them. With my co-workers, I definitely feel left out because most of them are talking about their married lives and kids and I can't relate to any of that. So I've definitely felt behind in this aspect. It's been a journey learning to accept and appreciate my life as it is and that's what I need to continue working on. I think what I need to realize is that I'm not behind and things will unfold in their own time. I also need to connect more with community online and in person. Learning from others and about others helps me keep a healthy perspective on things.

Same here, I'm a 22 yr old man as well and I recently quit my corporate job that I had worked for a few months, as it was a night shift and since I'm trying to study for my certification in finance side by side as well, I just really couldn't balance both work and my studies. I had to take a call and quit. Life just feels stagnant right now for me as well, it feels like there's no growth, no certainty to where I am headed. But I'm trying to figure out my way and at least complete my education. Although I have a degree, I want to pursue higher education but getting anywhere without much work experience is tough. I suggest you consider getting to the gym or anywhere where you can workout, because working out feels like the best part of my day besides all the madness going around, exercise will surely help in keeping your mental stable. I'm quite literally nowhere in life right now just like you are, I hope you know that you're not alone in this and there's a lot of 22 year olds out there still tryna figure out what they wanna do with their lives. I wish you well in your journey.
