Maggie Thatcher destroyed community amongst the working class . I was born in 72 in a predominant English/Irish area and a few Asian but we all got on .all the doors where open as kids we would run into alot of them (parents homes )and who ever we where at at dinner time would just open the door and shout "such and such is at mine eating " or when time to go home just here that you need to go home threw the community grapevine At Christmas the English and Irish would give presents to the Muslim kids on Eid the Muslims would give food to the Irish and English. This at a time when the riots happened. It breaks my heart what's happening in the UK and it's nothing to do with immigration. Ok Poland and Hungary have 0 immigration but what have they ever done? America, France, Canada The UK built on immigration and they or on the fore front of alot.sports , technology, science. @Joe-said To be fair if you look at the history of the rivalry between LFC and UTD fans in the 70's/80's a lot of it revolved around UTD fans being famed for being the best shoplifters, then who could nick the best clothes became a big competition between the rival fans, then when LFC were doing much better in Europe they were turning up with designer clobber they were nicking abroad, but back in the day clothes shops around Old Trafford were basically controlled by UTD fans like the mafia, they'd go in and openly shoplift knowing the shopkeepers were too scared to stop them, and then it turned into a protection racket, so anyway when the scousers eventually won the shoplifting war they were stuck with the reputation of being the best tea leaves.

the street you were walking up to buy the drink is Smithdown Rd. If you want 24hr booze there's at least 2 places. Lots of redevelopment taking place further down, past the greenery of the girls school away from the Camera view. It's the A562 if I remember right. Chaplin's is on Lodge Lane, you missed Manchester Supermarket oddly named walking past, and there's vibrance when it goes dark, with eateries and restaurants. Sefton Park is nearby, along with Princes Park, and along the Avenue (Princes) they've redeveloped to include Cycle Lanes in the centre of the urban green space inbetween 2 Avenues that form the Avenue and the Road, and that looks good! I think one side used to be richer than the other, Shipping Merchants houses that are collosal in size and often converted into Flats. Another side of L8 has The Florrie, and Apartment builds that encroach with the border of the City Centre, and Park Road, if you'd looked along North Hill, High Park and their continuations and perpendiculars down towards the River

Holmes street that was a really lively vibrant community with people sat out on their steps having a beer and we all got on together everyone knew everyone ….until the council ruined it and Eastern European young girls offering their services in those streets. It certainly didn’t look like how it looks now nine years ago. This is just sad to see what it is like now it looks now like a run down street in America.

I went there many years ago to buy a Guitar off a lad called Joey i had to stop & ring him cos every street sign was gone & i couldnt find his road . Soon as the Council put a sign up - concrete posts for ballast , wood burnt & tin sign rolled up & sold for scrap impossible to Navigate Toxteth & Croccy in the 80s

"What have the Romans ever done for us?" This is what happens when a technologically advanced civilisation of invaders pulls the plug and heads back home. Perhaps highlights the true nature of the British gene once we are freed from the shackles of colonial 'oppression'? Think things are bad now? What would everything be like if the Romans had never existed?

Some of those houses looked like they were once lovely back in the day. Such a shame to see them boarded up. Like most UK inner city areas, scruffy, no pride, "local" population not local (if you know what I mean). No wonder good folk stay away.

The litter everywhere is just plain lazy. My local council let the community down with its litter picking. So the people of the community started doing it for themselves. Every morning groups go out and pick litter just because they have pride in where they live. Simples

I recently found a cost of living comparisons website and it directly compared average wages and average rents as well as average food prices and bills etc in two countries head to head. And in countries like Denmark average wages were a lot higher. Average rents were a lot lower. And overall more food was cheaper and bills were typically less. It blows my mind that so many people want to stay here when they are been diddled

I'm from there and it's the strangest place ever. My birds from Sale and she couldn't get her head around it when we first got together. Everyone there is either a very violent drug dealer, a bouncer or a student from some random toff place like Bath or something. It's just strange seeing some posh southerner in skinny jeans and blue hair walking past some scouse lad in a black down jacket with a pitbull and neither of them bother the other. It's simultaneously rough as fuck but safe as fuck as well.
